Hello everyone :) I've been lurking for a couple months and finally decided to join. I smoked menthol cigs for a couple years, but haven't touched one in over 8 months now.

I've been vaping on an Ego C Twist & Kanger Aero/Protank for half a year, and sort of still had strong cig cravings at times, up until a friend gave me a Nemisis mod for a gift =D now i KNOW i won't crave a nasty cigarette ever again.

As of yesterday, I have Kanthal 28g & Organic Cotton and I am ready to start building...or I would be...if i knew what to do :p

Howdy and welcome!!

that's pretty much what I have, and YouTube is your friend...I"m sure the vet's here will recommend some tutorials that are better than others. Me I"m a visual learner and if I watch someone do something then can do it myself (the guy at the the local vape shop was great in showing me)

YouTube is definitely a go-to place for me, however there are just so many videos it's hard to find the quality vids with better demonstrations. I might be a beginner, but I consider myself a quick learner so I feel I'd be ready for tougher builds if I knew which ones to try

I did however rebuild my Protank 3 atty for the first time ever. I laughed so hard when I saw what the old coil and wick looked like

Rip tripper is pretty good to watch for learning diffrent coils.
Make sure you read up on battery safety aswell. I recommend getting a pair of sony vtc4/5.
Use ohm tester / multimeter(i recommend getting both, using MM to check battery condition) to check you ohms before you're firing anything you've just built.

The user Baditude got great information bloggs about battery safety

Edit: Once you get 5 or if it was 10 posts, you can head over to the RBA subforums for lots of help with rebuildning aswell! :)
Which you will find here:

I'm going to need to go grab a free multimeter from work today then ^^ seeing as I've built a few coils now but have no way of knowing how many Ohms they are.

I went to my nearest B&M smoke shop (not vape shop) a week ago and a guy made dual parallel coils for my Stillare RDA ,but he didn't have an Ohms meter so I have no idea the resistance on it.
I'm assuming I have a sub-ohm build because it was crazy hot vapor when i first got it. Now the coils dont heat up as much and it feels way better.
I was told the batteries I have would be safe even if he didn't measure Ohms, I have "IMR 18650 2500mAh 3.7V" batteries.

Woa that's dangerous to say, especially to a newbie.
What brand is the battery do you know that? Or the color of the battery.
You should always measure the ohms, mostly to check if you've a short before actually firing the coil. And with wrong batterys you don't want to go to much sub ohm.

Some batterys can only handle 10A draw, which you will do if you sub ohm. Some batteries like purple efest got 20A and sony vtc4 / 5 got 30A (Which is also why i recommended them, gives you a greater safety limit to work with)

for a guy who's just starting vaping, this all seems extremely overwhelming and complicated...

Yea it's on the advanced side of the vape world. It's not recommended for new vapers, mostly because they don't wanna read up on what they're doing and what they need etc.

In short you could say it like this:
Step 1: Ego batterys - clearos.
Step 2: Regulated mods - clearos / RBA (rebuildables) <- most ppl stick on this level.
Step 3: Mechanical mods - RBAs. <- (mostly for hobbyists and advanced users)

That's completely irresponsible and dangerous. You always measure your coil for resistance before you even fire it, even if you've wrapped hundreds of coils. That's just fundamental.

And to not know what battery you have or its amp limit is crazy ignorant. Not to sound mean, but this can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. Pushing a battery beyond its limits is bad news. Please be safe, educate yourself, and research, research, research before you dive into these waters.

I have two of these green batteries, and one purple Efest. From picture091.jpg
