Greetings, ECF.

I've been lurking for awhile and I find myself wanting to get into DIY e-liquids. I have read a few of the guides as to where to obtain supplies and mixing tips, but have another question that I am hoping someone could answer for me.

Say that I've mixed up hundreds of batches... is there a cost efficient method of trying out each mix without requiring new cartomizers each time to avoid tainting? Perhaps an "affordable" electronic cigarette model you would recommend for this specific purpose?

Currently I only have an EGO model and i dont know if i'm doing something wrong but it's hard to clean and after a week of leaving my favorite juice in there the taste kind of changes the and the carto is no good.

Here is something I just posted in DIY
I got this from fb in the diy section from george hoxie.

"Use a teaspoon of cool whip with one drop of flavoring to get an idea of how it really tastes and how strong the flavor is. You will save a
lot of time and waste. Many of the flavors I was depending on had a chemical taste.
This explained why many if my mixes also tasted off.
Yes, be careful. 1 drop might taste good. 5 drops, like a chemistry set. These flavors are strong!"

and also this
You have to do that and come up with your own measurements and comparisons, there's no set standard unfortunately. I have heard of people putting say 9 drops of VG into a small cap or something with 1 drops of flavor to simulate 10% and dripping it.

Hope this helps some.

in a warehouse buried near Univille SD
and here is what we are talking about

510 Bridgeless Atomizer - Black - 1.8ohm

Drip Tip for 510 - Black

no more than 3-5 drops at a time as more than that will flood it out (a gurgling sound is acceptable and normal when using this type of atty for dripping)

use plain vg or pg to clear previous flavors (1 or 2 drops)

and once you get into advanced personal vaporizers (APV) that can read ohms ie: mvp2, vamo, provari, etc

you can get something similar to this

Phoenix Rebuildable Atomizer - Clone

but you will also need this

Kanthal A-1 32 awg Resistance Heating Wire - 10 Meter roll

and some sterilized cotton (available at Walgreens etc)

hope this helps also

Use a teaspoon of cool whip with one drop of flavoring to get an idea of how it really tastes and how strong the flavor is....

Have you tried this? I'm wondering if the flavors in the cool whip mix are actually representative of when we vape it?

I gave up DIY because I found the process of fine-tuning recipes took far more time than I could devote. If this, or something similar, is an affective tool for testing before mixing, I might reconsider.

Getting ready to try this afternoon. Because all of the flavors we vape are also food flavors, it stands to reason it is a good representative. May be a little sweet since cool whip is sweet, but it should taste the same as when we vape it. Also since most flavors use alcohol, it is always better to let the flavors sit with cap off for a day or two to allow it to dissipate. In total agreement that fine tuning is a PITA. Remember, we are just tasting it.

:)

edit to post
Cool whip worked really well on flavor west products and LorAnn. Have had these for a couple of months so any alcohol has had time to evaporate. TPA flavors, just got in within the last week taste like alcohol, very strong. So to be fair, will wait and test the TPA flavors again after steep time.
I am also working on the concept that 1 tsp = 5ml. so that would make 1 drop around 20%. too high for most of the flavors I use.
Remember--all of this is just to see if you even like the flavoring before you waste any time and money mixing it.
I am also going to try dripping the 1 drop in 9 drops vg. That would be a better regulator for the amts in ejuice anyway.

That is a brilliant idea! Thanks!
