New Member with a few Questions

Hi folks,

Smoked for 10 years, quit for 6 months, and my wife bought me an e-cig when I wanted to light up really bad. Had a cig and lighter in hand, called her up, and she stayed on the phone with me for 45 minutes while she went to the vape store and brought it to me at work. I love that woman.

Anyways, I've been vaping for 3 or 4 months now and after having some runins with my e-cig not working and messing around with replacements I started doing some searching... stumbled across this awesome community while figuring out how to rebuild an atomizer. I've already learned that I've been vaping wrong this whole time!

I've read through the newbie info as well as browsing some of the newb forum and poking around other places, but I'm still overwhelmed by the amount of info. The abbreviations list is a bit lacking and doesn't really cover all the acronyms that are floating around... plus the whole newbie section seems to be a couple years out of date.

My first question would be... what kind of e-cig do I have? I'm using a Vision Spinner battery with a Vivi Nova tank. Is this considered a mod or is it just a standard variant? I think having someone break down my current device with the lingo would help me better understand things and give me a starting point for exploring the rest of the forums.

My second question is why doesn't the search feature work? No matter what I type into it I get no results

Hi Bob... welcome to the Asylum.

Well, a Vision is a VV... although a very basic VV, still, I believe it falls into the APV category. Is it a mod? By definition, because it is a variation of a basic fixed voltage battery, IMO yes, it would be considered a mod.

On the other question... not a clue. It should work from the get go and not dependent on post count, but I could be wrong.

Ya' know, I'm going to take this opportunity to comment on something that bugs me a bit. "Tanks" and what exactly constitutes a tank. Personally, I don't consider devices like the Vivi Nova, ProTank and all the others like them to be "tanks" in the sense of a "carto tank".... where a cartomizer slides into and out of a component part tank assembly.
Perhaps I'm splitting hairs (or maybe just completely wrong-headed), but I consider them to be "clearo-tanks"... because they use a clearomizer type replaceable coil head and not a cartomizer. I suppose, with the advent of the ProTank II, and others like it that are completely dissemble-able, they are getting closer to my idea of a tank, but what kind of tank, I can't say.

That's it... discussion to follow? ;-)

Yep, search still doesn't work... weird.

It has "vivi" in both the thread subject and body, but when I go to the parent forum...

And click the "Search Forum" button it returns no results. I've tried both the show thread and show post options as well as capitalizing the first V without any luck.

Go up to "Contacts" and report the issue to the ECF Forum Manager. I believe they are responsible for issues such as yours.

as I understood, "mods" are mainly things that work with standard rechargeable batteries, so Spinner would not be a mod, but as 1911Builder says, some consider Advanced Personal Vaporizers (variable voltage or wattage, and/or with different features like integrated ohm meter, battery charge meter, charger...) as mods as well.

The acronyms overwhelming... I do share it. And I work in the software/computers world. A bit of a steep curve for something not that sophisticated (all in all, its sending some current in a coil to heat a liquid).

The search box (top right in the menu) works for me, I just searched for "VTR" (the name of a new APV I was curious of). You can also use google with something like (for the same search) "VTR site:www.e-cigarette-forum.com".

Good point falken... I didn't stop to consider that. I've been up for 33 hours and my "mental acuity" is a bit off. ;-)

If your fairly new at this (like I am)and live in NJ and you want to get a good look at how this stuff works then try....VAPORS's
in Brick is NJ's best E-cig store. Ive been to the three that I know of and this place does it right at a reasonable price. They have some pretty good juices, that you can sample in store, so your not just guessing. Good array of batteries, mods, atty's and other hardware and are very helpful.
I live an hours drive from them but I'm hoping to convince them to open a North Jerzy store!
I order mostly on line but I like when I can check it out live
