Hi,

Just a new member trying to get my 5 posts in.
I made my 6 month no cigarette anniversary on August 28th. I have quit more times than I can count and it has only been by vaping that I have gone as long as I have. Tried everything from hypnosis to anti-depressants to cold turkey. The longest I ever went was close to 6 months so I am very happy to say I beat my record.

I do have an issue though. I have recently started coughing although nowhere near what I did with the smoking. I have tried changing flavors, changing coils more often, retiring my mini-nautilus and now I am sitting here vaping from an old plastic tank just to see if that will help.

I vape a 50-50 pg-vg blend usually Dragon's Breath or Mothers Milk (Suicide Bunny). My go to battery is an I-Taste VV 3.0.

I confess I am sometimes guilty of "mindless vaping" so that may be the problem. I also had a cold last week but I had already started coughing before that.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I am willing to try. I do have a doctor visit coming up and will discuss with him but knowing how the medical community is I am afraid he is going to say stop. (not sure I am ready to do that).

Thank you

Hi Urchin, and welcome aboard.

Congrats on passing your previous mark!

A cough may or may not be related to vaping. You might try a mix with less PG or less VG. Sometimes some people develop an "allergy" to one or the other. And you might try backing off the power a little. Or a lower nic percent. One of those may help.

Go to CASAA's site, print out some of the accurate info on ecigs as harm reduction, and take that to the doc. If the doc gives you any crap, give 'em the info and ask if he'd rather have you smoke or vape...

to ecf urchin58 . So glad you are here and congrats on the 6 months. Vaping is awesome. Continued success to you and I hope maybe it is just allergies or something making you cough. :)

People who quit smoking - with or without vaping - almost always go through a period of coughing up hideous crap. This is sometimes called "Quitter's Flu." It's pretty awful, but I don't know of any way around it.

You could try an expectorant like Mucinex (even the name is disgusting!) to help cough it all up quicker, and I'd definitely recommend drinking a lot of fluids. Extra rest is good too.

:)

Sorry you're feeling lousy, but it does pass.

Thank you for the feed back
I have cut back on my power the last couple of days so now will try to cut down on the nicotine. I started at 18 mgs but am at 6mgs now. Maybe going to 3 or 4 will help...will also check into a new pg - vg ratio.
I have been taking the mucinex off and on the last week and it definitely helped.

Maybe you can get some plain unflavored and try that for a few days just in case you're developing an intolerance to some thing in flavoring or other additive.

But a doctor check does sound in order; the fact that you developed a cold might be a symptom of something else going on.

When I ended up in hospital back in 2012 (before I started vaping) it started off as a cold. Turns out it was a bacterial infection of the lungs.

Okay hardly any coughing today. I am still going to buy some unflavored pg/vg blend just in case I go through this again. I had bought a Mini Nautilus about 6 weeks ago and love the heck out of it but can no longer use without coughing so back to my old stand by: Mini Protank II. My oldest son is now the proud owner of a slightly used Mini Nautilus tank and Aspire battery. Dang It!
I am good with my I-Taste VV 3.0 and Joye C-twist as long as I don't cough anymore.

Thank you again for all the input and words of encouragement.
