Hello everyone! I've been trying to quit smoking for about 10 years...unsuccessfully. The whole "cold turkey" thing has never worked for me, so I've decided to give vaping a try. I just got my Kanger eSmart starter kit today. I'm very excited about it. The e-liquid flavors are pretty tasty (Lemon & Mint Mojito). The best part is that I haven't smoked a regular cigarette in over 3 hours. That might not seem like a big deal, but I have a pack a day habit, and when I'm at home I rarely go more than 45 mins to an hour without seriously craving a cigarette. Sooo, I'm very optimistic about my ability to quit this time--for good. :)

Congratulations! I was doing 2.5 packs a day for 45 years, and the first time I tried to go past 6 hours without a cigarette (but with vaping) I was scared spitless. But it worked and now it's been 6 months. So you can do it! Welcome to the forum, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask - people here are amazingly helpful and there's always somebody who'll know the answer. Have fun and enjoy!

Welcome to the forums!!! And congratulations on making this decision...

I was just like you since I tried to quit for years without success. When I started vaping (about 5-6 weeks ago), I was EXACTLY in the same frame of mind you are in right now...not sure how its going to work out. I have to say that, at least for me, I've never seriously considered going back to the analog cigarette. I actually tried one about a week after I started vaping and couldn't believe how bad they actually tasted now (and to think, I used to ENJOY them).

Hang in there, even if you want to go back to the analog, just think of how much less 'junk' you're taking in with the e-cig now. Take a few extra hits on it if necessary (I remember one time when I didn't put my e-cig down for an hour since I was under so much stress at the time).

Welcome aboard, Dru!

Glad to see you are making the switch.

Good plan on getting some 0mg nic. One of the things you can do is to "vape low, top off high". That means that when the cravings are absent, just vape to enjoy. When the cravings hit, change to the high nic juice to fight them off. Works for many - YMMV.

I also have found that, for me, just plain nic wasn't completely helping. I need some of the other alkoloids that cigs deliver. There's something called WTA (Whole Tobacco Alkaloid) juices. When plain nic juices (even high mg ones) don't do it for me, I take a few draws of the WTA, and that really helps for me. Just wanted you to know that that's an option for you.

Enjoy your new cig-free life and Happy Vaping!

Rsunderl,

Thanks for the tips :) So far though, my only concern about missing some of the other ingredients in regular cigs that aren't present in the e-liquid comes from the whole anti-depressant thing. Until very recently, I didn't know that tobacco companies were putting MAOIs in cigarettes. But after reading a couple articles about it, I have to say it explains ALOT about why it's been so hard for me to quit in the past. Usually when I've tried to go "cold turkey" in the past, I've gotten pretty emotionally unstable. I always thought it was just the nicotine withdraw, but that could be wrong. Have you (or anyone else reading this) noticed any issues like this? So far, I'm doing okay. Not having any anxiety and my mood is pretty high with all the excitement over getting my starter kit & relief that the juice I picked is as tasty as I hoped it would be. But I am a little concerned about the next few days or so being a little tough. Anyone have experience going off anti-depressants similar to the kind found in traditional cigs?

Congrats! And wow, didn't know that either. So many success stories here... On the other hand the FDA... Lol, let's not get started. Keep it up (if you still have a pack of analogs laying round, trust me throw them to the trash!).
