Hi all, ex-smoker of 37 years and have been vaping for going on 7 months. Looking forward to learning everything I can for myself and others to help getting off and staying off cigarettes. I can honestly say I don’t miss smoking at all but at the same time it feels like something is missing. Thanks for your time, Scott

Welcome aboard :)

Hmmm, "something missing."

What's your vaping style, what hardware (mods, toppers) and what juice (flavor, nic percent)?

Likely something there just needs a little tweak.
I’ve started a money pit but I believe I’m on the right track now. I vape mtl, slightly loose draw with a centenary mods diplomat mtl and a kayfun x, I am trying to use net tobacco exclusively (which is the root of my struggles) currently using black note 50/50 12mg juice and have ordered a sample pack from real tobacco extracts. My mods are a hadron lite and a geekvape solo 2. I have a dani box micro ordered and should be here in a couple of days. My struggles are with getting flavor out of them I started with a smok novo 5, xros pro, then a luxe xr max which worked well out of all of them but only with the latakia. I wore out the latakia after using it for 5 months and needed a change so I started with the rta’s. I had previously purchased a sample pack from black note and was trying them and found I was getting out of the park flavor with the Kentucky so I ordered more of that. Right back to no flavor so watching videos I tried different wicking, single wire, claptons, spaced, tight with pretty much the same result. My coils hover around 1 ohm plus or minus .3 ohms. Next up is the dani with heat control. Sorry this is so long.

You might've thought your previous post was too long, it wasn't, but those 5 extra words would certainly be pushing it..

    Nope, not too long :)

Might just be the percent of flavoring you're using. Sort of counter intuitive, but many flavors "go away" if you use too much. Although you didn't mention the percent of flavor, another thing to look at.

Also a possibility is the height of the coil over the intake. As a general starting point, putting it up as high as the coil OD is will usually get you close to optimum. I.e. if it's a 3mm od coil, put the bottom of the coil about 3 mm up.

I’ll give that a shot. I’m not sure what the percentage of flavor is, it’s 50vg 50pg 12mg freebase from black note.

First one transitions from smoking to vaping, then one uses the near infinite controllability of the nicotine levels of vaping to slowly reduce the nicotine to zero. Then one drops the flavoring and the whole thing eventually follows. It’s a long road, but not a painful one. Unlike the others. It’s one I am on. I’m down from 24mg to 2.75. Took a while. I suspect I’m betwee 2/3 and 1/2 way there. One apparently spends some time at zero

The 'percentage of flavor' usually refers to the amount, usually in mls., used, or added to an e-liq.

Indeed, I started with 50mg nic salt that the vape shop recommended, that worked to get me off the smokes but I found out by accident flavor hunting that 12mg freebase curbed the cravings.

    Welcome!

Sometimes I feel like that too. The reality is, I'm only remembering when smoking was pleasurable. I waited a few years longer than you to quit. The last year or so, it was painful to smoke. I couldn't go to bed without using a nebuliser first. I was spending 400 a month on lung medication. That's after the insurance paid their part. I also notice now that bad people who smoke smell. I used to smoke on my porch, and even now, I smell cigarettes. At worst, people say I now smell like cotton candy, lol. Give it some time, and those thoughts will go away for the most part. My advice would be to keep a variety of flavours around so you don't get bored. Also, use different devices if that is within your budget. Cigarette smoking is tactile. It involves the hands. Find devices that feel good in the hand. There is also no harm in eventually quitting nicotine altogether.

Yeah, it varies a lot though. Usually fruits require more. Unflavored works and has the advantage of not gumming up the interior of the device. There is the disadvantage of no flavor of course.

How are you doing this? Are you DIYing? I have been just mixing half 3mg with zero. I figure 50/50 is 1.5. Works most of the time but sometimes I need the whole 3mg.

Two ways. One is DIY (and yes I do that. It’s simpler as well as cheaper) if you don’t DIY you can do it with an an empty bottle, a scale, a bottle of zero, and a tile of whatever strength. Stuff is more accurate when mixed by weight on something accurate to a tenth gram. If you’ve got a triple beam scale that will do it, or you can buy a little calibratable electronic one for 1/10th the price on ebay.

The scale I have has X.xxx for a readout but I don’t trust the third X making it effectively X.x
its also in theory doable without a scale, using 3 drops as a ml. I’m not sure how accurate that is though and it can get kind of monotonous counting drops.
