If you're happy with the istick (battery life, etc.) then I'd say just get the cheapest $10 ego battery you can and toss it in a drawer at half-charge and keep the $30-40 you'd spend in the bank. Batteries automatically die with age sadly, even if not used -- and if your main squeeze dies on you or runs off with another, you can use the safety mod for a few days till you order in whatever the fast-moving market is peddling.
Maybe get another 20 watt mod as a backup. Possibly a DNA 20. I've seen some pretty awesome DNA 20 box mods around. But if you want something cheap maybe go with like an iTaste VV. My friend actually has an iStick in the mail right now. He has an eGo battery, so I'm really excited for him.
Size isn't a big issue for me, neither is price. I want something good and reliable.
The Itaste SVD 2.0 is a DNA20 with a good reputation. A very good step above is an IPV2 at ~$95

What about VamoV5? It seems quite popular on the net, but doesn't seem to be any different than my iStick, apart from the gigantic size
That is just it...for me, anyway. When I get a new MOD I get something different for the experience. My current goes into the back-up position. I did just hear that the IPV Mini is out and selling for $47. previously, I just knew it was coming. I have the IPV2 and am very happy.

Just got the IPV Mini over the weekend. I don't see anything "Mini" about it (well...compared to the iStick) but that aside, it's an outstand Mod for $50. It fits in the hand nicely, has an outstanding build quality, a floating/adjustable center pin, and an easily replacable 18650 batter. I love it as a home vape and my iStick as the "out-and-about" mod.

It's WORSE than an iStick, and yes... it is absolutely massive. I was using mine yesterday to power a Kayfun... just for a bit of nostalgia.
If money is no object, get a Provari (tube) or Vaporshark rDNA40 (box).

Box or Tube? There's plenty of 18650 tubes out there but they just get longer every new version. I think Box mods are the only way forward.
Me too. The mini one confuses me a little... the spec looks good, but I'm not sure about the battery (Guessing I can use VTC5) and the size.
