Just got one of the cheaper e-pipes to see if I'd like the whole vaping thing. I've smoked a pipe since I was 14, so I'm pretty set in my likes and dislikes! The e-pipe is pretty cool! Draws a little hard but I'll get over it.

What I'd REALLY like to do is adapt one of my analog pipes to an epipe. Looking at the e-pipe in comparison to my old pipes, I don't think it should be all that difficult. I don't know what parts I'd need to do this or where to get them. Part of the problem is I don't know what some of these parts are even called! And the instructions with my new epipe have confused me even more. In some places in the instructions, they call the atomizer an atomizer, and in other places they call it the cartomizer. Yet in other places they call it the cartridge. They say it's disposable, but it has a hole in it so I assume it COULD be filled?

Any help would be appreciated.

Congrats and keep on vaping. I remember my first ecig. I took one puff and said "no way" but thanks to the kind people here on ECF I have now been just over 2 yrs. smoke free. That is an amazing thing for me. Good luck and welcome to ECF.
BTW an atomizer is the heating part that makes the vapor. You use a cartridge with it that holds your eliquid that the atomizer vaporizes. A cartomizer is basically both of those parts combined. You'll catch on fast.

Welcome to the ECF.

I'd really recommend you read the series "The Wonderful World of Vaping" (parts 1-6) in the ECF Library. It is an impressive introduction to ecig terminology and systems. The library is reached under the general group of Forums then just scroll down until you see it.

As far as the pipe mod conversions, most I've seen just remove the stem, bore out the pipe bowl to accept the chosen battery, and push it in (then connect a cartomizer/tank (or atty and cartridge) onto the batt. There is at least one commercial system available (I've seen some posts about it and they included pictures of it).

Welcome :), I'll do my best to explain these things to you.

An atomizer is what makes the vapor happen. It's the heating element that the battery powers, which vaporizes your liquid. In some set ups, you will have a atomizer that is a separate piece. Cartridges that come with this set up, just have some sort of filling inside (cotton or what not) that the liquid is soaked in. These cartridges are not reusable. Don't try. It'll leak everywhere. But the atomizers are usually reusable for a good while. These atomizers are also used with several other methods of liquid vaporization, like dripping (manually dripping drops of the liquid through a metal/acrylic/plastic tube that also functions as the mouth piece). But don't try and drip with an automatic battery.

A cartomizer is basically a hybrid of these two separate pieces. In a cartomizer the atomizer and liquid is held in the same piece. These are reusable. You just have to pop the little plastic (some are silicone) top off and drip more liquid into it. If you do this, only drip a few drops at a time and let it soak up at a time. Be careful not to get any juice into the center hole, this will just leak through the entire piece. After you fill pop the cap back on. If you're worried that you got too much juice in (it'll make a mess), after wiping off the cap, just blow through the piece and into a paper towel. If you have any overflow it'll come out. Make sure to dry the part that screws into your battery. I've found these are reusable many times, basically until the atomizer in the device dies, or the soddering comes loose. I've stuck a straightened paper clip through a few of mine, when they feel clogged, like they aren't drawing anymore, and it helps to make them perform better. Just be gentle.

All of the other basic liquid delivery systems are pretty much some sort of variation of these ideas. Some cartomizer style deals have resevoirs instead of filling inside. Clearomizers are like this, and pretty popular. Some companies offer the clearo design in a metal case like a carto. But basically, those are the basics.

heya :)

An Atomizer and a Cartomizer are slightly different. You can generally use either an atomizer and a cartridge or a cartomizer.

Both are semi-disposable and re-fillable.

Well, that's how it works for e-cigs, not sure about the pipes, but I'd assume the terminology is similar!
Thanks for your reply. I sort of figured that's what the terminology was, but the instructions are quite confusing!

I started reading that series last nite after I posted. VERY interesting.

Thanks for the explanation on the pipe conversion too.
