I would suggest, first of all, not hooking it into your computer. USB Passthroughs - and a variety of other non-standard hardware - can destroy a computer's motherboard or power supply or even the data on a hard drive in a big hurry. I'm a computer tech, and I build and service computers for a living. Many people do use their passthroughs on their computers without any difficulties, certainly, but it only takes one small issue to create a huge problem. You can buy USB hubs that don't require a connection to your computer that can serve as a power source for your PT, and there are a variety of other AC to USB adapters out there can provide the power and connections you need without jeopardizing your computer. I picked up three AC-to-USB connectors on eBay the other day for about $6 each.

If your PT isn't working, there is a possibility that it is not getting enough power for some reason from your computer's USB port. If this is the case, then fiddling with it can cause a short that would damage your system significantly. If you search the forums, you'll find a number of people who've damaged or ruined their computers via a PT connection.

Here's one link for reference. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecigarette-technical-issues/9213-fried-my-work-computer.html

Can you provide some additional details so maybe we can figure out what might be going on?

That's what I was thinking, too, until she reported the same results when the PT was hooked up to her PS3. Thought it was unlikely that she would have two completely different USB solutions that reported the exact same issue in the exact same way. This is made even more unlikely given that she's had a what is perceived to be a fully functional PT previously.

I've seen some wild fluctuations in available power to the ports, especially on laptops, mass-market systems like those from HP, Dell, E-Machines, etc. Also, there seems to be a greater occurrence of power issues on mainboards that supported only USB 1.0 or 1.1. Perhaps you have some insight that can help get camci up and running?

When it comes to non-standard devices and potential power overloads, I tend to err on the side of caution and go to an AC-to-USB adapter or a USB hub to provide for device power needs.

Speaking of plugging it into the wall.... I haven't done a ton of research into looking for high amperage wall plugs (because I have a solution that works well for me), but I just saw this on Gizmodo today: Scosche is releasing wall and cigarette lighter dual USB port adapters that have a 1A port and a 2.1A port. That should work well for those that like to use lower resistance cartos on their PTs.

May I ask what brand or type of wall-to-usb adaptor you are using with the v4l passthrough? Mine doesn't work with the adaptor I have, and I just got the passthru today. It works on my computer, but I didn't really want it for that. I wanted it for the ac/dc to usb adaptor use and for in my car. Now I feel really bummed cause it ain't working. It says it's for 5v-2000maH output. I don't know why that wouldn't work though. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much.
