New Poster and cannot get started???

Hi Guys, trust this is the right Forum to post this. Well I have spent many hours perusing hundreds of posts and possibly read too many as I am really confused.

Smoker, residing in SW.Florida USA for 40 years(20-30 a day) and have got to stop. :evil:Obviously looking for a kit with accessories to start with..2 actually(one for the wife) and forgive me if this question has obviously been posted before.....but what and who do I go with? Everybody seems to have their favs and can't actually see a winner out there as far as reputation, consistency, customer service and quality product is concerned. I also am not the most technical of people, but reading between the lines, some maintenance is involved if one expects the product to last...so looking also for simplicity, but functional, with the whole purpose of trying to feel better health wise(obviously)..but what also confuses me is that Nicotine is a drug that one becomes hooked on and so many flavors it appears does not come with nicotine juice, or am I reading this wrongly...................Been smoking for the last 5 years Kools menthol 100's...which I thought would be milder for me as opposed to other brands, but the way I am coughing and hear the crap gurgling away in my chest when I lie down at night...........I have got to really try and kick the habit.

Grateful for your help and getting me started in the right direction with a reputable company that preferably has a phone number and contact name that I can build up a good relationship with...................some of you seem to have had bad experiences to start with, which would really put me off............asking a lot I know, but appreciate any info and thankyou in advance.:)

I wish I could help, but I'm getting to the point of just suggesting that people get something, anything, and figure out what they like and don't like about that model and go from there.

On the other hand, I could just roll out a blanket suggestion and say get a 510 model.

Or I could start asking questions, like the following...

--How many do you smoke now?
--Do you think that it has to look somewhat like a cigarette?
--Do you think you need huge clouds of vapor to satisfy you?
--Do you care about pushing a little unobtrusive button to make it work?

E-cigs are an electronic device. Any device will require spare parts, and maintenance.

The biggest thing right now id the 510. It's close to the size of a regular cigarette, and performs pretty well. It has a manual battery, so you have to push a button when you take a drag, and then let go. Throat hit & vapor are pretty good. The starter kits are fairly inexpensive, and come with everything you need to get started. Cartridges are already charged with nicotine fluid, but don't last as long as they say. You buy liquid separately, and refill your own cartridges. There are lots of other models to choose from. I suggest you read the sticky threads at the top of this forum. Especially the thread with the tutorial videos.

Here's a link to give you an idea of different models. The list is incomplete, but has a lot of popular one on it.

E-Cigarette Models

Others are sure to jump in with their opinions, so read & research. You'll find something you like.

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance and reliability

For ease of use and better performance, since you really want this to work, please do yourself a favor, and only get a manual switch PV (personal vaporizer). This also will narrow down your choices making it easier to decide.

The two manuals that are at least somewhat closer to the size/look of the real thing and are still well liked are the Joye 510 (manual) and the DSE901 (manual not regular or auto). With all manuals YOU control how long to inhale and how warm the vapor is. With auto's you have no control. Plus you have no concern with liquid getting in the battery like you do with autos.

Then there are the premiere manual PV's that give you long battery life on a charge, 5-8 hours instead of 2 hours, have great throat hit (like the real thing) and inexpensive batteries ($2 instead of the usual $14-$20).

Here are some suppliers for both types. I hope this works for you. I use to be where you are at:

Welcome Branmin
There are many people here who'll help you out with information based on their experience.
Many good vendors - scroll up and click on the Sponsoring Suppliers list.
A tip - if it looks like a cigarette you will find prices anywhere from $50 to $150 for a starter kit. If it looks like a cigarette - that $150 kit is not necessarily any better (and may cost you more in the long run for parts)
than the vendor with the better price.

To answer a couple of your questions....
All the liquid flavors have a label that tells how much nicotine.... those without nicotine will be labelled '0' or naked - I think there's another term but those 2 I know for sure.

FYI - 'menthol' flavor in liquid is often VERY STRONG. I used to smoke menthols years ago and find a 'lighter' mint flavor works better - for me.
That's another thing - all the posts here are people's opinions and experiences.

Maintenance does not really prolong the life of your equipment all that much. The pieces and parts are meant to be disposable - attys usually last 1wk to 3wks.... sometimes a month - sometimes 2 BUT a key factor is in how often you use your e-cig NOT how you clean your atomizer.

If you vape all day long rather than take a 'vape break' every couple of hours at work -
well your e-cig's lifespan is usually in direct proportion to amount of use.

Personally - I started with a DSE901 - and had to constantly recharge and replace expensive batteries.... $9-15 each. I did not have to try hard to quit .... logs
I just had to have a P/V that worked at optimum level EVERY TIME I TOOK A PUFF.

Many people start with something that looks like a cigarette - a great idea to see if you even like the 'concept' and it agrees with you. You can try it out and what often happens is your ciggies start to taste really really bad after a nice flavorfilled vape.

For 'heavy' smokers - the next step is often a P/V that is modified to work with regular rechargeable batteries. They are a bit more expensive initially - much more reliable and save $$$ in the long run. PLUS you get a consistant amount of vapor all the time.

All the best and welcome!

Thx Deadcats ,Jim, WV2WiN and Souporvapor...appreciate it and thx for the great links...in answer to your questions.........smoke about 20-30 per day, more when drinking socially..........don't need an atomic mushroom full of vapor.

Don't much care for the idea of the pushing a button routine(but on the other hand, what do I know).

Souporvapor..............you said.."For 'heavy' smokers - the next step is often a P/V that is modified to work with regular rechargeable batteries. They are a bit more expensive initially - much more reliable and save $$$ in the long run. PLUS you get a consistant amount of vapor all the time."

This is where I am confused...like the sound of this one(any vendor you could rec pls?) as opposed to a manual and will certainly chk out all the links given.
Thx. so much..looking forward to getting started.......:)

The best ARE manual... and you get used to pushing the button. That allows the atty to heat the vapor enough so you don't get 'soup' (hence the souporvapor name).
You can take longer puffs and control the amt of vapor better.

Didn't think I'd like a button - but enough gosh blessed nicotine soup in the mouth (along with dead batteries and inconsistant amt of vape)
I got used to it realllllly fast.

I use a Screwdriver - but again - this vaping stuff is a whole new ballgame - so it doesn't hurt to try a basic 'looks like a ciggie' to start out. See if it's for you and then invest in a system that uses regular batteries.

As long as you start with a DSE901, a 510 or an 801 once the short lived batteries die you can buy a 'heavy hitter' as someone in the thread put it.... instead of more e-cig bats.

The list is above in another post - 'Big Seven - long battery life'

Although - if you'd rather start with one of those - and decide vaping is not for you - they usually can be sold used on the classifieds for about 60-75% of what you paid..... not so much an option with a dead 901 battery.

Good luck!

As soup said, the Long Battery Life ones that I referrenced are the same ones he was talking about. Trust me, you will have no problem with the little button. And when you compare it to the frustration, inconsistency and break downs of the autos, you will thank us for telling you this now instead of how we had to learn the hard way.:)

PS: BTW, I stayed at the Hilton on Marco Island a couple of times. Had a great time there. Very nice area you live in.:)

I know that cough! Its the same one I had. I smoked 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day for over 40 years. I coughed and hacked all day and all night. I also had to do something. I started out on a 2 piece called the red dragon. It was ok, and it got me down to about 5-7 cigarettes a day. Then I found this forum and went to the 901. It was so much more! Flavor and vapor were great and I tapered off to 0. After about a week that cough was GONE! I never thought it could happen but it did. I can breathe better, my sense of taste and smell have returned. Hang in there! You will find so much info here and everyone will help with whatever you need.

For a first time buy I would recommend a 901 has great flavor but not much vapor and the cost is reasonable. This will allow you to determine if vaping is for you. Once you get the hang of vaping you will most likely want to step up to a model that gives you more vapor. The 510/Yeti with manual switch is very good but the flavor can sometimes be lacking. I personally use both the 901 and the 510 depending on my mood. If you really find you like vaping then the next step is a MOD such
