Hey there Reonauts!

This Wednesday I received my very first reo! It is a mini 2.1 in silver vein (very nice looking in my opinion). I also got an A7 and a couple LR atomizers. Prior to this I had been using an ego style e-cig and still smoking stinkies. At this point I'm trying a few different flavors of juice and I plan to look into WTA juice next as no matter how good the juice and atomizer setup I'm still craving cigarettes. In any case I digress, kind of trying to introduce and myself and explain my situation at the same time.

More to the point, tonight I built my first ever wick/coil setup. I had an A7 with the loose post so I cut some rubber into a tiny slip and wedged it between the post and base. Loose post solved. I used organic cotton balls and a 6-ish 32 "A1" kanthal coil. I have no idea what ohm level it is at as I can’t seem to get my multi-meter to work correctly. I've watched videos etc but no luck for me. The coil looks pretty bad as one may expect from the very first attempt. The cotton wick method seems to have gone alright though. Currently after about an hour of use vapor production is decent (not as good as one of the LR atomizers I have been using the past few days), throat hit is pretty good, but the flavor is just a tad weaker. All things said and done though I'm pretty pleased with my first try, no shorts or fire or hot spots so that's a good deal in my book. I'll put a link to the multimeter at the bottom of the post in case someone may have some experience or advice with that particular model. Otherwise I think I may just buy a better unit. It reads volts just fine but I can't get any ohm readings. Not to mention the instructions are entirely in Chinese so...yea...

As far as the Reo itself is concerned I have to say I'm blown away. It has far exceeded all of my expectations. I watched and read as many reviews as I could find before actually making the purchase. I have a few comments on my unit that contradicted some things from the reviews. My battery door is not loose or "clicky" at ALL. Completely solid, I'm not sure if Rob has updated the design or if I'm just lucky but most every review I watched commented on this problem; not so for me. The button doesn't seem overly easy to accidentally lock while vaping. I can certainly see how this could happen but so far no problems for me. However the button itself started to make my fingertips sore after the second day. Ha I may be buying one of those button covers from Rob as well. My IMR 18490 batteries have lasted me an entire day of moderate use (again I am still occasionally smoking stinkies so I'm sure this will change once I finally switch to this full time). Squonking was EXTREMELY easy for me to pick up, I am grateful for this site as I read as much as I could find on squonking prior to getting the mini. I guess I’m probably blind squonking and its working well. This is the first time I have used an atomizer and I am occasionally forgetting to squonk...dry atty is terrible...just awful haha.

All in all I'm extremely satisfied with the Reo, it is honestly incredible. I've still got some learning and tinkering to do as far as the RBA and juice side of vaping goes but at least I won't NEED another mod anytime soon. Sorry for the disjointed post, it’s rather late and my mind has been pretty iffy today. I'm happy to be a Reonaut and excited to learn from you guys!

Thanks,
Tyler

Welcome Ty!

Bro, you should try unflavored nic. It's the closest thing I have found to a cig taste. Flavors do nothing but add a perfumy taste to the nic base?

Great job on the RBA too.

Oh, and plus 1 on your observations on door and button. All my doors are tight and I have never accidentally locked the button.

I press the button very lightly.

Hi, Tyler! I'm Jan and I live in Tulsa. There are several Reonauts that hang out here on this forum from Tulsa and Oklahoma City! Glad to hear you like the REO....to me it's the perfect little apv and I have no doubts that you can toss the stinkies altogether once you get your coil wrapping skills down. :) If your finger hurts after vaping a REO all day, I'm thinking you might be mashing the button too hard. Next time you get ready to take a hit, hold it up to your ear and listen. It takes a very light (barely) push on the button to activate the battery. Once you hear the sizzle, you'll see that you don't need to push the button down very much at all.

Hello Tyler. Welcome to Reoville.

Many moons ago I used to live down the street from you. Off May Ave near 122nd street, if I remember correctly. Memory has faded...

Anyway, on your meter. If you plug in the black lead to the center jack and the red one into the right jack, and turn the dial indicator to the six o'clock position (green circle in the image below) you should be able to take an ohm reading. With that setting, what does it say when you connect to each post on your RBA?

Welcome Tyler and congrats on your REO!

First thing I want to ask is what mg of nic are you using? Many times if people try to start with lower mg it will not work. I started at 36mg. Now after two years I am still using 32mg.

How often do you vape? Are you vaping whenever you feel the urge to smoke? I found I couldn't go an hour without vaping. With cigs it was at least a cig an hour.

What make of batteries are you using? The AW IMR work best with L.R. vaping. New AW IMR batteries take a few cycles to perform their best. You should be pulling out your battery when it is no less than 3.5v. Using a battery that has dropped below that will cut the life of the battery. Also you will notice your vapor production changing when the battery voltage is lower. It is a good idea to check the voltage of the battery after a few hours at first. You will soon be able to tell when it is time for a new battery. Never let them go till they shut off.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks super X. I don't know much at all about unflavored juice, I honestly thought it would just taste like nothing/air! So this tastes more like a cig to you than tobacco flavored juices? Or does nic base have its own taste? Intriguing...

Yes, the nic base produces a welcome smoky all day every day vapor that is very pleasant. I never smoked a perfumy cig and often wonder how ex smokers can tolerate must juices. All of the flavors I tried or smelled were perfumy. Eeeewww!

Most flavors are very difficult to remove from vaping apparatus too, I have to boil in dish soap (usually more than once) to remove em. Unflavored is also very kind to your coils and wicks :) .

I get the unflavored in 24 mg strength in 30% pg / 70% VG from wizard labs. Just shake it up and pour it in your bottle, and vape :)

you should go enter this contest, it is for people who are having trouble dropping the cigs, prize is WTA :)

Thanks for all the replies and welcomes! This is a great community.

About the multimeter and ohms readings-I had it set on the six oclock position and was putting the red line through the bottom hole in the center post while holding the black line on the threads on the outside. I'm not sure if perhaps the red line was too fat and was just grounding out on the sides if that makes sense? in any case the readings were just all over the place and never settling anywhere that made sense or would be acceptable for an atomizer. I'll do it again today and try to keep track of some of the numbers just for examples.

I'm using 12mg juice, I suppose I should up the strength to see if that would help. I also have 18mg juice but did not notice too much of a difference. Occasionally I would vape too much and get a head ache :p. I definitly do vape alot, probably right around once an hour if not more while driving etc. Often times even while vaping I will still find myself craving a cig.

I do have the AW IMR batteries and have been swapping out frequently. So far I have not pushed one below 3.5/3.6 so no problem there.

At this point I'm assembling a list of juices etc to order this evening. Looks like I will try some unflavored, and some WTA as well as upping the nic content. I will likely also try a 100% vg juice just to see if I like it or not as all of my juices are 50/50.

I will definitely have to look into the meet in Ardmore! That would be pretty fun and its cool that there are so many okies here. Work is about to get extremely crazy for me so I can't make any garuntees but if possible I will definitely go.

Thanks again all, I really appreciate everything! :vapor:

If you vape once an hour thats not a lot, at,least from my experience and many others. I vape pretty much all day when my eyes are open. I think the nicotine in ejuice isn't as efficient entering the blood stream as cigarettes are. If you hit a cigarette the nicotine enters the blood stream almost immediately and you can feel it. I think vaping is more of a gradual process so you have to vape more to maintain a nic level that your body finds satisfying. If you want to really stop cigarettes I think vaping more often and maybe with a higher percentage of nicotine might be beneficial.

Ok so at this point I'm looking to increase the nic level and usage as well as potentially try out WTA. Ill definitly sign up for the REO roll call soon.

Update about the RBA: all was well until late in the evening/morning last night. Today I woke up and went to vape it around 1 this afternoon and it did not fire. I removed the top and nothing is heating up as far as the coil goes. no smoke or vapor and the battery/spring has not dropped. Popped on an LR atomizer and everything worked as normal. weird! The coil in my A7 is still intact and looks totally fine. Tomorrow evening will be my first chance to build a new wick/coil and to test for ohms so hopefully I can figure it out. I'm going to go ahead and order some different juices tonight though.

Thanks again guys, hope you have a good night!

Welcome Tspringer34 :)

Just for clarification on the "usage" part, I was a 2 pack a day smoker. I'm currently using 20mg unflavored ejuice, and I vape roughly once every 5 to 10 minutes, varying from "chain" vaping, to only once every hour or two, depending on how focused I am on other activities. I go through around 4ml of ejuice per day, but I take LONG slow draws (8-10 seconds) because, well, because I like to play with the vapor (smoke rings, etc.)

There's no real "formula" to know what will work for you, but if you're still feeling the "urge", try increasing the nicotine level...FIRST. If that doesn't help, THEN increase the frequency that you're vaping. With a REO, it's quite easy to overdo it, and wind up with headache, wooziness and a general case of the punies that can last several hours.

The 12mg that you're using *does* seem quite low, on average, so I'd try using the 18mg you have first, even if you can't tell much difference initially. As was noted, the nicotine is absorbed differently in these devices, and will take some "adjustment" from what you're used to with regular cigarettes.

But in any case, keep talking to us and letting us know how it's going. We all want you to succeed as much as you do :)

I vape just like I smoked, if I'm awake a mod is in my hand. I started with commercial juices at around 11 or 12mg's and quickly found out that wasn't high enough. I went up to 24 and that works perfect, not only do I not have any cravings for a cigarette but I don't even think of them and 3 nights a week I spend 6 or 7 hours around a lot of smokers.

The simple fact is that after 43 years of 2 1/2 packs a day, I'm an addict and will be for the rest of my life. The 24mg is about equivalent to a Marlboro but as ltrainer pointed out, nicotine isn't transmitted as efficiently in water molecules as it is in smoke molecules so to curb cravings you'll probably find a need to either use a higher mg level or simply vape more.

I've tried unflavored juice and while it's not objectionable to me I enjoy my DIY flavored juices much more. (My award winning, Guinness Book of World Records recognized is my all day vape.) I find that desert and fruit flavored juices help keep my hand out of the potato chip bag and away from the brownie plate. (Of course not buying any of that stuff helps too.)

Over all, quitting cigarettes by switching to vaping has turned out to be pretty much a non-event, it's simply a matter of finding your sweet spot, voltage/wattage, juice, (flavored or unflavored), and favorite style of mod. After the mandatory trial period of eGo's and Provari's I discovered that I'm a diehard bottom feeder, that's vaping preference... not social status.

Keep experimenting until you find that magic combination, once you do you'll never look back.
