Ok got a couple new RM2 caps since i damaged one of mine drilling the hole out. No airholes in these caps so the task of drilling it larger seems more daunting. any tips for drilling straight?

Gonna pinch it in the vise the way FB showed me on some other thread...just more intimidated not having a hole to drill larger.

I haven't done it....but I read you should make a starter hole (by hand, I guess) first with something so that the drill bit doesn't travel all over the place, then drill very slowly.

turns out we have a center punch i'm guessing a soft hit with a hammer for the dimple? and just barely getting the cap snug on the vise to avoid bending the threading

and I will put it on the atty to see where to put the hole and mark that point with a marker...having the other cap side by side for height adjustment. sound good?

Here is how I did it. Screw atty on mod to center coil where you want it. masking tape on side of atty and mark center of coil, screw top cap on tight and put a strip of tape on the side of it and transfer mark from bottom on to cap. Remove cap and punched center of mark with a finish nail . Remount cap but do not align with coil so you don't drill in to coil . new #57 bit went through almost too easy. Unscrew cap and remove any drillings metal . That's it .Easy peasy

Yes it does, and multiple light hits with the hammer. re-centering it each time. a big hit might bend the cap. I'd also do this outside of the vice so it doesn't slip in the vice and scratch the sides.

A big hard cover book opened in half works great to hold it right in the center groove.

Damn, FB. You've got mad skills.
