New RSST, Coils wont heat

I just picked up a RSST Genny, and I got it wrapped with 26 AWG .8 ohms micro coil and ss mesh, suprisingly my Itaste VV will fire it at that low of ohms. but it takes a long time for the coils to heat up. I am getting decent flavor, better than any other tank ive used, however I am getting hardly ANY vapor, and the flavor doesnt last long cause of the lack of it. I am kind of assuming the mesh is absorbing heat as well, which is why it wont heat like it should. Now I know most use a mechanical for sub OHMS, but I want to get it working on my VV. I have a SVD mod on its way, Its my problem that the gauge is too low for this build? would I have better luck with a 30 or 32 wrapped at around 1ohm? Thanks all

.. why? Build a coil at 1.4-2ohms if you're going to use normal regulated mods. The itastes will fire 0.8ohm coils, but you can't adjust voltage. It won't even fire 3.3volts..it will stay around 2.78volts..

Build a new coil, and come back if you're still having issues. If I could always have stacked batteries or dna30 or better, I'd only use standard resistances..

i agree with the above post. the resistance is just to low for that mod. at that resistance the wattage is just to low to heat such a thick gauge. you also stated you have tried higher resistances, but with what wire gauge? you need a thinner wire when going up in resistance. i would definitely go with 30g at 1.6 ish ohms

Well I actually dont know the resistance of the wire I have cause I got it in a bag at a brick and mortar with no label. but it appears pretty thick. I could measure it with a micrometer. and yes, that makes sense, thinner wire at higher resistance. excellent point. I have some 30 and 32 on the way. along with my SVD. Coil is proper tightness, mesh spins in the coil with some resistance. not too tight not too loose.

is the itaste VV not capable of putting out enough amps at the low of a resistance? thats my main curiousity also.

if so that's only pushing 11 watts of power and at .8 im really not sure it would even be pushing that. on top of that the battery just isn't capable of resistances and wire gauges that low. i wouldn't recommend that battery for what your doing. now if you increased to 30g and to a resistance almost pushing 2ohms then maybe, but for the most part you need a bigger mod for gennys

did you drill out the hole hole at all?

drilling the rsst's air hole is a good idea if one is using a low resistance set up for sure but that's really not the issue here, you just don't do a .8 coil with 26g wire on an itaste vv ego battery, but when he gets his itaste svd, that's a good option

I am hoping the SVD will work better, but can you explain why it will work better? the SVD will run the same voltage and wattage if I understand corectly, is it because it will put out more amperage?

The current battery you are using is very small and just can't deliver the current needed for higher power. While sub-ohm setups on devices like the SVD or MVP are pretty pointless to begin with because of the built-in amp limit of the chip, when you get to tiny ego-sized batteries it just becomes ridiculous and potentially dangerous (luckily the vv has some safety features built in)

If you are going to build for regulated devices it's best to stick with at lest 30g, once you get really proficient with rebuilding you might want to experiment and there are ways to do that, but for now 30g is your best bet for getting a good build. 32 could work as well, especially if you want to build into the 2+ ohm range.

ya its about amp limits, in your OP you mentioned a 26g coil at .8 ohms, because the itaste is regulated it most likely wont fire it at a voltage that would exceed the mods max amp limit, which may be between 2 to 3 amps so in theory its all good but like you found out, it just wouldn't heat up the coil. I would venture to say in that scenario of a .8 coil (which im surprised it even fired it) in theory the voltage to the coil (at lets say a 2.5 amp limit) is only 2v to the coil. at 2v and 5 watts of power, your just not going to light up that kind of coil. also, within these amp ratings in batterys there is differences also. larger batterys have a higher rating in continues draw, while smaller batterys amp limits are more of pulse draws, so if your trying to fire up this large, low res coil your mashing that button for a longer time which can heat that small battery. also there needs to be a large cushion in numbers. if I run a low resistance set up, I want my battery to have an amp limit twice to my targeted resistance just incase things are off like the actual resistance of the coil. when you get the svd, first of all the amp limit of the device is probably 5 amps instead of the 2 to 3 of the itaste vv mod, and the svd allows you to install a much bigger battery like an 18650 battery that can handle up to 30 amps. so there is more to it then just wattage. either way though you still, even with the svd wont be able to run that thick of a gauge and that low of a resistance, vv mods in general are just not powerful enough to do so. max wire gauge on a vv device with standard genny coils is probably 28g wire while 30g is more preferred. resistances on most vv devices are also limited to about 1.2 to 1.3Ω. a 1.3 to 1.5 ish resistance and 30g wire will be your best bet. so really at the 1.5 resiatances and 30g wire there actually wont be that much difference between the svd and itaste vv mods except the svd will allow more voltage to the coil because of the slightly higher amp limit, ultimately giving you a few more watts of power. also it will give you a better look because the mod will match the diameter of your rsst. and finally the batterys will last longer and have a bigger margin for error, but in regulated mods that's not really an issue at those resistances. all in all the svd will be better for a rebuildable atty. in the future if you really wanted to try coils of thicker wire gauge and sub ohms you need an unregulated mod or a dna 20 or 30 mod, in those you have the power to run those numbers
