Hi all.

Just came across this forum and thought I would say hello, as I can imagine I will end up spending quite a bit of time here!

I'm 37 and I've smoked between 20 and 40 cigarettes a day for the past 18 years (roll ups without filters for the past 10 years). I gave up when my wife got pregnant in 2005 and managed to stay a 'non smoking smoker' for nearly 2 years. Ironically, my incredibly healthy wife then got cancer and under the stress I started smoking again. That was in 2008 and even though she died in November 2009 I still continued smoking myself silly. I carried on smoking up until a month ago, but now my son is 7, he has started to understand quite how serious smoking is, and has been giving me a lot to think about over the past few weeks - think emotional blackmail along the lines of 'I've already lost a mum let alone a dad'! These sort of comments were the nail in the coffin for want of a better phrase and I now haven't had a 'real' one for a month.

I'd still class myself as a smoker - because I'm still smoking - that's the thing that's amazed me so much about e-cigarrettes - not only can I carry on enjoying all the things/times/situations that I loved about smoking, but I can do it without killing myself, and do it in places I haven't been able to do it for years!

I can't believe within the space of 4 weeks, I have completely lost ALL urges for cigarettes.

I have only been smoking high street e-cigs rather than 'vaping' so far, and have tried between 10 and 15 different types so far, and I'm hoping to either do a written or video review 'round up' of my experiences so far, In the hope it might help others that are trying or others that are considering it.

Cheers

Welcome to ECF Deem! I am truly sorry to hear for your loss and yet am glad to hear that you are being a thoughtful father to your young one. Struggling with the things that affect our children can often be the very victories that our young ones see and remember and make into their own strengths as they grow, so I sincerely applaud you for your step towards better health, for your sake and for his. I'd love to see your reviews and such on the e-cigs you've found that have helped you step away from tobacco. Maybe even starting a blog would be something you find useful to your interests. Good luck with your new-found path and once again welcome to the forums here!
