Those of us who vape do it because we are addicts, it is generally regarded that vapins is safer than smoking but there is no assurance that vaping is safe it is just assumed to be safer, we are willing to risk the dangers of breathing a handful of chemicals that are regarded as safe as opposed to thousands of chemicals some of which are known poisons and carcinogens.

If you don't smoke, which you don't, (on average one cigarette every two weeks, as you claim) why risk getting involved in something that, could lead to possible problems. I would hate for someone like you to get hooked on vaping then run out of supplies or something and have to turn to smoking to get the "fix."

Would I recommend someone putting something potentially harmful into their lungs? NO!

Just the same as if you asked me "should I take up smoking".

If you are a non smoker, then I think it would be very very silly to take up vaping because you "like the idea of a cigarette". I think if anyone here had a choice, they would not be smokers OR vapers. But we got addicted to nicotine, and this is, in our opinion, better. If you aren't addicted to nicotine, I see no value, only risk. Just my opinion.

Thank you. It seems most people don't think I should start, I guess there is a trend going on here

I don't know, there is a local distributor that has decent prices and as long as I don't increase the frequency of my smoking drastically I can still get by pretty cheap. Maybe I am chasing after something that is unattainable by thinking I can dabble in this and not get hooked.

I know some people that can do that, smoke a few every once in a while and not get hooked. Maybe you are one of those people. But, it should also mean that it should be easier for you to stay away.... At least I think so, couldn't tell you. Not possible in my world. You can still ponder and choose. For me I would've rather lost a limb.

Good luck to you.

Maybe I should rephrase my original question. I know it would not be cost effective to smoke only a few times a month and buy a pv. I guess I am planning on increasing my usage since it is a safer alternative and there is my real question. should I even start? I know the risk of addiction, and if that is the only real health concern than I am alright with that risk. I guess I am looking for someone who is like me that has started with fresh lungs so I can see if they have had any problems that maybe a veteran smoker has not had.

I don't think any of us will support that decision. Safer is a long way from safe. You don't have the same dangerous habit that got us here. In my opinion, you've been playing with fire and you're on the verge of being burned. The few cigarettes you've been having are starting to get their hook into you. You want to smoke more and you know it's dangerous so you're looking for a safer alternative. If the choice is PV or cigarettes then, the right answer is PV. That said, you claim to have the option of using neither. If that is the case, that is exactly what you should do. Don't play with this addiction. It's a great way to develop a decades long habit that will kill you.

My son is exactly like you. Smokes every so often at a bar and never became addicted. He enjoys his e-cig for just those occasions or for long car rides. He uses an e-juice with an 11 mg nicotine content. He used it yesterday for the first time in a week. I think you will be okay with vaping from an addiction standpoint. Just my 2 cents.

I understand why everyone is opposed to it. But if I found PV's before I became addicted to smoking I think I would have started vaping! I love the feeling of smoking, I knew that the instant I had my first cigarette. I do hope to one day get down to 0mg so I can enjoy vaping without the hassle of addiction. I view it the same as with anything that can do harm to your health. If you drink alcohol, you could become addicted and there are many health problems associated with alcoholism. If you smoke there are health risks. The difference with vaping is no one knows what health risks may come about from it. So as long as the OP understands there may be negative affects later in life then I say why not. We all choose our poison.

I'd probably do what someone else here suggested. Get a disposable. It'll probably cost the same as a pack of cigarettes if you shop wisely, and you'll be getting a safer nic fix. Plus if you only use it every so often, it will probably last as long as a pack of cigarettes currently lasts you.

Also, cheap way of finding out if you like vaping...

Hey, we all have an addiction we are trying to manage. Everyone here is just looking out for you. We feel vaping > smoking, but, probably ;), just breathing > vaping.

But people will do whatever they will do, so if you feel you absolutely must try it (and you are over 18) PLEASE just get some 0 NIC cartomizers - the experiential and psychological aspects may do the trick for you. I say this Not because I personally care, but I really don't want to start hearing people whining because they were non-smokers and now they are addicted to nicotine.

Well, you have a tough crowd. A bunch of ex-analog smokers that don't want to see anyone smoke. It's like going to a diet forum and asking if you should have a banana split.

^^^^THIS!

I'm another member of the "tough crowd" who is going to suggest that you don't even start vaping. At only one or two cigarettes a YEAR, why even bother calling yourself a smoker?

I think it's an insurance thing. My insurance considered you to be a smoker if you smoke 1 in 30 days. Quitting would have lowered my insurance by $800 a year.

As far as I know they just take our word for it. I have never heard of anyone being tested. As far as the frequency, I am sure it would go up if I knew it was a healthier alternative.

Reading through this, I got curious and looked it up and found this.... How Do Insurance Companies Test for Nicotine? | eHow.com
I doubt they would just take anyone's word for it, cause I am sure a lot of people would lie. Honestly, this has made quitting smoking so easy for me, and if you are able to just not smoke then I am gonna go with what other people say and just don't do either, it is expensive, hehe. But, again...it is ultimately your choice. Best of luck in your decision! =)
