Hey,

I have received my SS GGTB Bottom Cap today. I unpacked it and wondered that it has really ugly black spots on it. How can this happen? What can I do? The GG supplier does not have this product in stock anymore which means I would not get any replacement. So my day starts really bad!

Attached you can find a picture. It is a little bit hard to see but you should be able to do it. It is not dirty, it is the steel itself that has the black spots.

Thanks

Alright, Captain!

Unfortunately Flitz is not available on German eBay. I'll order some other stuff and then polish it.

I did not polish it, yet. I have received it this morning and just tried it with a fiber cloth without being succesful. Honestly, If I purchase something I expect not to have to polish it straight upon I receive it. That should have been checked and done before it is shipped to a customer. Nevertheless, I will do it later on. I still have some time as my SS GGTB is going to arrive next week.

Thanks for your information!

It would be impossible to check each and every piece. I myself - the known shiny master have had pieces come with spots, be it brass or ss. This is just how it is and will come off right away. If for some reason it doesn't than you would be able to get a replacement. Sometimes buttons come that need taken apart and cleaned right away, machine dust, brass spring, etc.

Lifetime warranty on all gg equipment.

One should always have some type of polish - autosol or flitz liquid, etc. around for polishing metal mods.

I know you are the shiny master ;)

Nevertheless, I do not completely agree with you. If I purchase something I should not be responsible for checking or cleaning a part. It should arrive and be ready to use straight away. But as it is no big deal to polish the bottom, I will do it :)

Get some simichrome, it's actually made in Germany
Unfortunately all of them on German eBay are just available from the USA. So this would take a little bit long, too ;)

Check with a local jeweler, chances is that he has amazing stuff just for that and might give you a quick buff for free too!

Show him your GG,he might be interested.

I might try that. Although some Germans are kind of afraid if the see me with an GGTS+Ody in Big Mode. They do not really know what it is and they only know the eGo-T from television. ;)

But as you say, it is worth or try. I'll take the bottom cap with me and perhaps just drop in somewhere next time.

One more question: I have a Nickel GGTS with brass parts. Unfortunately, some of the threads are really, really dirty. What should I do with that? Also polish it or is there something better I could do? Also the nickel is in bad condition. Can I fix it or do I need a professional?

Depending on the condition of the nickel, you may need to have it stripped down and replated. Once the original plating is gone, there's no bringing it back. Small scratches can be easily buffed out, but I'd like to see some pics of what you're attempting to restore before I make any further suggestions.

Peter, this conversation has done before but its lost inside threads on GG forum. Those marks are marks that the supersounds leave some times on steel. Polish it for 10 seconds and they will go away permanently. As for the nickel GGTS you can use aceton for the threads or the same polish cream you will use for steel GGTB caps

View attachment 93007View attachment 93008View attachment 93009View attachment 93010There you go. The engravings are really hard to see, especially when taking a picture. I do not care that much about the engravings as they are hardly there anyway. It would be just nice if it got a fresh look.

That looks like the aluminum TMF GGTS - not the nickle - I have small screen computer, but engravings look large that are faded - if it says To my friend on it then it is aluminum. Be very careful if it is.

Here is pic of alum TS

I agree with D on this one. Definitely looks like aluminum. Also, threads on top tube and tele are shorter on aluminum than they are on nickel. I'd love to get a chance to restore the finish on it. It'd turn out beautiful, and would be much easier to restore than a nickel in equivalent condition.
