Maybe it is Aluminium. It is registered in the Wiki as Nickel, but as you say it has the ''To my friend'' on the site.

So even if I am able to restore the aluminium the engravings are gone, right? Or can I do anything?

Concerning the Metal Polish & Restorer: So I should just polish it to the max to get it look like new?

I think I did not pay too much for it. With an additional Brass Stealth Cap, Rethreader as well a Full AD Cap it cost me about 100 USD. I was aware of the condition before but just could not resist.

Thanks for your help my friends :)

Take your time,go slowly, start with very liquid stuff (not too abrasive) and dont apply pressure, just be gentle and see where this will lead you.

Who knows, the engravings might just resurface somewhat (they will look mat vs the shiney body);I think most of that is hand crud and ''patina''.

Slowly,gently.

Yes, your first objective will be to remove the topmost layer of tarnish. Once done, you will have a better idea of what you're working with. I'd say that the engravings look pretty much done for, but we'll only be able to tell once the body of the mod has been somewhat cleaned. As for the telescope...the bottom tube's threads have cut so deeply into it that I'd just go to town on it with a firm buffing wheel and a fairly abrasive buffing compound, then work your way down to softer wheels/mops and compounds.

Right on....in fact,you got a smokin deal!

If you are not comfy with the restoration, wait a bit...I am pretty sure that you will get more pointers throughout the day.

Absolutely! $100 for a TS is a HELLUVA deal, regardless of conditions. I must say though, I find it truly baffling that people don't bother to polish, let alone buff or fully restore, their mods before posting them on the classifieds. With a little bit of elbow grease and time on the wheel, this $100 aluminum GGTS could have easily been sold for 2 or 3 times that. Congratz on swooping it up, awesome buy!
