Fernand,
Yes, I thought Tuscan Reserve was the best of FA's tobaccos and the Virginia was the only other one I could tolerate at all. I do have the Black Fire as well but it came off as more of a fireplace, wood-type smoke than tobacco and it could obviously overpower any mix quite easily. I'll revisit FA with a combo of those two and let them sit for a while.
As for the mixing properties of the VZ's, I am getting a bit worried about flavor cancellation. I've been tinkering with various mixes and it seems to me that all of VZ's super concentrates were engineered as standalone flavors so I can certainly understand your comment on them being "cartoon-real". It's almost as if they made to be so hyper-realistic that they teeter on the edge of unrealistic. I've had some success mixing 2 together but when I start trying to combine multiples I'm getting "dead" mixes that are just muddles with very little discernible taste. With, for example, Capellas, each flavor in, ohh...say a 5 flavor mix seems to maintain a clear "voice" whereas 5 VZ flavors tend to become a cacophony. It may be a steeping issue. I have found the VZ juices all need some steeping time, particularly the tobaccos, so perhaps the mixes need even more. We'll see.
I hope I can figure out the key to mixing several VZ flavors because I'm sure there are some wonderfully complex tastes to be found. These really are the best single-flavor flavorings I've tried and if I can get them to sing together it could be quite a chorus.
