The AW/IMR 10440 battery switches for the Precise 10440 are completed now and i just need to polish them. I also have a batch of IMR 10440 batteries coming in shortly and I'll have them (the switches and batteries) finished and up on the website sometime next week and will post up when you can order them:)

Also, all Precise 10440's will start coming standard with this switch going forward. With the safe battery chemistry of the IMR batteries, it's a good combination.

From what I understand the IMR battery's are high drain so there will be a shorter life but a larger boost of more power, maybe a little more kick to your regular or low res atty. Where as the AW battery's will work similar to the Trustfire battery's most are using now but with a longer vape time between charges, some say up to a hour or so more.

If you compare the same atomizer to the same atomizer, run time won't, in theory, decrease. If you take a standard resistance atomizer and run it on a protected trustfire 10440 and then run the same atomizer with an IMR 10440 battery, the atomizer still only draws what it needs so run time will be similar given nearly equal mAh ratings of the battery. If you run a Low resistance atomizer on your trustfire protected 10440 and then switch the battey to the IMR, you may even see an increase in run time. Sometimes, LR's even trip the protection circuit on those protected 10440's, a problem you won't have with an IMR battery.

so if an atomizer needs more amps than any 10440, IMR included, is able to provide, what happens then? in terms of performance does it make the IMR better because it has higher discharge rates though not enough, or does it make the ICR better because in theory their chemistry should offer longer runtimes?

I hear the term "stressed" a lot in reference to batteries powering LR atomizers that can draw more amperage then a batteries output. I personally don't subscribe to the "stressed" crowd per se. True an atomzier may be able to utilize more amperage then a battery is putting out, but it can't use anymore then what is there.

I suspect (absent objective testing) that an LR atomizer that is able to draw more amperage then a battery can provide, simply runs less hot then it could with a higher output battery. Will it decrease the number of charge cycles you can get out of your battery by running them at max output for "short" bursts such as we do when using them in an e cig application? Again, something that would need to be objectively and empirically tested.

Keep in mind, an atomizer heating element is virtually identical to a lightbulb in the way it operates. If you take a lightbulb and underpower it, it will simply run less hot (bright). Same goes for an atomizer, if you under power it (by running it with a battery that doesn't have as much power as the atomizer could utilize), it will, in theory, just run cooler then it could with more power.

A lot of speculation and opinions abound on the forums, most absent any controlled testing, much like the Stainless steel myths i had to put to rest with actual testing, so at this point, i too, fall into the opinion cartegory until i can test it, but i suspect my opinion is sound.

i definitely agree it won't use any more amps than what are available to it, despite both its desire and ability to draw more anyway. the light bulb analogy is interesting, but if you accept that the bulb is "less bright," and want to then convey this comparison to that of an atomizer unable to draw the amps necessary for it to work at full efficiently, nevermind safety, then it would seem that the atomizer performance would be "less bright" as well, correct?

but in terms of the initial question, would your theory be that higher continuous discharge rates, even if insufficient to the desired draw, would amount to "brighter" vaping performance over a cell with a lower continuous discharge rate but greater runtimes? do you subscribe to the theory that runtimes are impacted by the amp draw, and that peaking the available drain rate of a battery limits both its runtime as well as the overall life in terms of cycles available to the battery?

Yes to your first paragraph. Light is heat, heat is light. I was trying to explain to my son last year that even humans emit light, albeit at a spectrum we can't see, but he couldn't quite grasp the concept...lol.

Most of your second paragraph would fall under the "needs to be objectively and emprically tested" school of thought.

Have you thought of doing some testing bugg? It'd be useful information for all. I've wanted to test (specifically run temperatures of atomizers at various voltages and amperages), but finding the time is always the limiting factor.

So I picked up a p10 over a month ago on the classifieds and gave it to my wife as a little wedding gift. She came home a few days ago and guess what. SHE lost it!!! I have been waiting for this switch upgrade ever since I got it for her because with the aw batts I may have even used it every once in a while. But all the waiting for nothing because it looks like it is gone forever :(. I guess I will just have to go to the totally opposite end of the battery size and get a shockwave.

Yeah I dunno if she will be getting anything more than a riva for a while at least. If David ends up doing the longer tube for the p16 for two cr123 batts then I will definitely be buying the shockwave and the p16. In another thread David said there is a chance he might(key word, might) be able to do the 6v tube after the shockwave.
