I am very new to DIY, but so far i havent found any pre-mixed liquids that i like, so i figured why not give this a try. first off i got some nic liquid at 48mg(PG) 40mL, i figured that would be OK to start off with. I also picked up some VG at my local CVS (spent forever worrying about how i would get this, and i picked it right off the shelf in the beauty section!) i also got some flavorings from TPA(i have tried a few out by mixing some apple and caramel into some pre-made weak apple, YUM!) i also got some pipettes and a couple small plastic bottles, and i have a big(150ML? about) blue glass bottle for the nic liquid(with glass dropper). okay so i figure this will be okay to start off with, but i have a few questions before i get started. (i have yet to buy PG... )
i wont start until i have my PG, but i would like to get some info.

i downloaded the calculator, and it says you need to put in an end product in mL, and im not sure how much i will end up with after i cut my PG nic down to about 75%PG/25%VG at about 10-12 mg, what do i type in there?
and how shoul di go abotu cuttin this down?

when i use my VG, will i have to cut it down first? with distilled water? (i wont use vodka or anything like that because i do not drink and i dont want to use alcoholic products)

is there a chart that tells you the potency and how to use the perfumers apprentice flavors? (how much per mL, etc.)

is there a good beginners guide here, because i can not find one.

and also, when i mix my 48mg nic liquid should i be wearing protective gloves? will 48mg make me sick? i know i should always be careful with it, and handle it as if it were a chemical ( it is one!) but will it make me sick if i do get a little on my finger, or something like that?

thank you in advanced for reading this long thread!

For a beginners guide, the only one of note, that I know if, is PureVapor's.

The quantity you put in cell E9 is the amount of finished liquid you want to make. So your question does not make sense to me. You put in the strength of your base, then your target nic, and the amount you want to make then set a starting % level of flavoring. It should do all the calculations for you and you'll know what the finished level of the nic strength is.

I usually make test runs without nicotine to see how it tastes because PG and VG are cheap and hate to waste the expensive stuff if the thing does not work.

Make small test batches, start a bit lower in flavor percentage than you think it will take and go up from there. Experiment. That's what we do. It's like the chemistry labs for kids on an adult level.

Hoosier is right about starting off with less flavor, you can always add more. My mixes tasted bad at first but got better when I cut down the flavor to about 10-15%.

I doubt 48mg nic would get you sick just from skin contact but I'm no expert. If your careful you shouldn't spill any anyway. Just drip in the required amount to get the level of nicotine you want.

let me try to explain myself on my first question. what i mean is i want to make al my nicotine liquid into juice, so im not sure how much i want to make. i just wanted to cut it ALL down to the same 10-12 mg, and the 75%PG/25%VG. does that make sense? like, i dont want to make 15 mL, i jusy want to make it all, and then just be able to add flavoring. so i dont have to mess around with the nicotine liquid a lot, this being my first time.

and thank you for the link, and tips, i think i may have just started putting flavor into my nic liquid... and come out with a bunch of bunk flavors, heh, i never thought to use just pg/vg to experiment first

assuming your nic base is PG:

9mls nic juice @ 40mg = 30%
13.5mls PG = 45%
7.5mls VG = 25%

renders 30mls @12 mg 75/25 PG/VG. This recipe will render 4 x 30mls bottles, with a 4ml leftover: or

7.5mls nic juice @ 40mg = 25%
15mls PG = 50%
7.5mls VG = 25%

renders 30 mls @10mg 75/25 PG/VG. This recipe will render 5 x 30mls bottles, with a 2.5ml leftover or:

4 x 30mls 10mg
1 x 30mls 12mg with 1ml leftover

i had one more question, how do i mix the nicotine liquid into the VG/PG so that i dont get "hot spots" i dont have a mixer, so can i just put it all in the bottle and swish it? or gradually mix it in? should i mix it in a beaker type container, or should i put it in a bottle with cap ?
No, that would be wasteful. Draw what you need with a syringe and pour/syringe into final container. For VG a quick 10 sec in the microwave make it manageable. Don't worry about mixing, a little shake when your done and all will be fine. Let sit for 24 hrs and they will have thoroughly mixed and remain, unless you place them in the fridge (read not a good idea) where the VG will suspend out of solution. If that should happen, a quick 10 sec or so in the microwave, a little shake, 24 hr rest and all will be fine.
