New to e-cigs, kinda lost...

Hello all!

I just recently signed up on here after having been considering switching over to e-cigs. I ordered a trial kit from an online shop, the Boge 510 trial.

Not a bad little trial kit, but I have some concerns as well as questions.

First of all, outside of this trial kit, I'm kinda lost as to what I should order. My understanding is that 510s typically have the button that you push to start the atomizer, whereas this kit does not. After using this kit, I think I would greatly prefer to not have to use a button. What other 510s are like this, or am I not making sense?

Another one I've noticed is Green Smoke.

Those seem pretty nifty, but are definitely pricier than other kits I'm seeing elsewhere. Is there any benefit to the Green Smoke e-cigs that I'm not aware of, outside of having the atomizer and carts integrated together? I'm still kinda lost as to how to proceed from here. Any advice given would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

    Hi Omega-

Welcome to ecf. Here is a link that contains tons of good reading:

A 510 is a great start. You are correct, manual batteries have the button, while automatics do not. Plenty of places to get a manual 510 kit. Greensmoke is simply overpriced, good product but it can be had for a fraction of the price. Good Luck!

Ok, batts that have a button are the manual batts. These are handy because YOU control when the turn on and off not the ecig (these are known to go off on their own in windy situations, concerts etc) when ordering a kit, you can select either manual (button) or automatic (the kind you got w/o a button). If you can I suggest getting the manual.

As far as recommendation, most folks will steer you towards either the joye 510 or the ego... I can vouch for the joye 510, I have been using it for 2.5 months now and it has been great for me. Other suggest that the ego has a better flavor and vape output, but I cannot verify this directly.

My $$ says if you got either of the above you would be a happy camper. The biggest thing to remember is that these are not real cigs, and do require some maintenance---nothing much, the occasional cleaning and filling. But as long as your ok with that, you will do fine.

Your trial kit apparently came with automatic batteries. If that's what you prefer, just make sure to look for automatic rather than manual in the designation. many people prefer manual becuase they have more control over heating the atomizer and because automatics can sometimes be triggered by loud noise, wind, etc. Other than that, automatics are convenient.

The Green Smoke is just a branded KR808D. The words "Green Smoke" are pretty much what you are paying a premium for over any other KR808D out there. The KR808D is a two piece, meaning that it uses cartomizers (which are also available for your 510 as well) instead of an atomizer and cartridge. The main selling point for that setup is convenience.

As far as the cartridge and atomizer combined, I like the "cartomizer" better. I have all my carto's in a tacklebox organized by how times they've been refilled. After 5-6 refills, toss em and get new ones. No need to worry about burning out an atomizer and not having a backup.

I have been wanting to try the cartomizers but I just bought 5 more 510 attys so I will be using these first before anything. But I have heard a lot of good things about them... =)

Thanks guys, that clarifies things a bit. I think what looked most appealing about the Green Smoke e-cigs is that the website looks professional, whereas most of the other shops look like they had their website created in Frontpage in about 5 minutes.

I think I would prefer an automatic battery, thanks for clearing that up for me. I may give a manual one a shot, though. I guess I still have a lot of reading up to do on this. Thanks again!

Auto batteries just do not hold up. Easy to get liquid in them and then they fail. Strongly suggest trying the manuals for better throat hit, vapor and control. I would suggest an eGo and if you like that, then look at one of 5 volt mods which has grown to be the vape of choice for many. Here's a site that summerizes many of the mods:

My fist order was for greensmoke (nice wesite) but battery life was major issue with smaller issue with there cartomizers (some seemed to last for a while others after 10 puffs seemed to be fading). Found this fourm and researched then ordered a ego from cignot. From them you can mix and match batteries. Ordered one auto and one manual battery. After one day did not care for the auto battery and ordered a second manual battery. Happy with the ego after trying a cart mod.

I have a RN4081 with the double capacity cartridges and it is great! Just have to be careful when "dripping" and store it with the led end up. I have one with the new style atty and it produces almost as much vapor as the 510 I just bought. Both are great pv's. Manual batteries are nice because you can heat up the liquid for one second before the puff. It produces a little better aroma and vapor, imho. I do like the autos for carrying in my pocket. You don't have to worry about the switch being depressed.

Those seem pretty nifty, but are definitely pricier than other kits I'm seeing elsewhere. Is there any benefit to the Green Smoke e-cigs that I'm not aware of, outside of having the atomizer and carts integrated together?

My wife and I started out with Green Smoke and at the time I figured they were a good product. They have a one year warranty on their batteries, and although they were higher in price we decided to try them. Spent a lot of money with Green Smoke, but we quit smoking cigarettes and we were happy.

Until recently. The last order of cartos we got from them was really bad. Half were dried out, or empty, or had the little white plastic cap shoved half way down into the carto ... a real mess. And I had ordered cartos for both my wife and I, so it was a big order.

I know there are "no returns" on cartos, but I contacted Green Smoke Customer Service just to advise them of the condition of my order. They gave me a coupon code for one extra pack of cartos on my next order. I guess they didn't figure out there will be no "next order."

Green Smoke has joined the ranks of gyp joints and its a real shame. They used to have a quality product.

A while back we started buying KR808D-1 products from Vapor4Life-Because it's your life - E-Cigarettes/Smoking Alternatives and couldn't be happier. For a two piece (battery and carto) this one is outstanding. One thing - if you decide to try them get the "WOW Vapor Cartomizers."

    Hi Omega,

I'm about exactly in your situation. I started with GreenSmoke and quickly got attached and a little concerned about the investment. I use the GS, now will be calling it an KR808D (thanks cyberwolf!) and I've been refilling the carts and using automatic batteries. It's my favorite way to go. I recently received a 510, though and I'm getting used to it. There are two schools of thought on that one as far as cartomizers vs. cartridges go. I'm still on a learning curve. There are many, many resources for any battery or cartridge or cartomizer that you need, much less expensive than the GreenSmoke site. For example,I think a battery there costs $50 and you can find them for $12-15 elsewhere.

    Blessings!

I find the 510 a little noisy compared to my KR808D. Has anyone else experienced that?

youtube is also a great resource for finding reviews on e-cigarettes. - for me a particular youtube video had me cancel a greensmoke order before it shipped...then i found this place, and many other reviews on youtube. Before you buy look into the models people are suggesting to you - and i wouldn't say trust youtube vids 100% because somebody may be working with an atty that isn't broke in orrr not know what they're doing. But for the most part you should get an idea of what to expect - although for me what i expected and what i got were different...what i got blew my mind ;)

If you're wanting an auto battery I'd suggest you get a manual kit and then buy a extra auto battery. 510 batteries aren't that expensive and it would be a good away for you to compare.

If you like the convenience of an automatic use it at home or in a controlled noise environment. Then use the manual when you go out. Using auto batteries in a noisy environment usually isn't a good mix, some trigger easier than others but they all seem to suffer from this. My first one was a 510 auto disposable and it would go off just by screwing the atomizer on, I also listen to music at above normal levels at times and that would set it off constantly.

I would take a look at the "hello 016" kits that madvapes has, it's a 510 with a batt on it rated at 1300 mah, comes with a fast charger and 5 cartomizers rated at 2.5 ohm plus a 10ml bottle of juice for 33 dollars, its a real good starter kit if you're just getting into vaping plus they ship fast, most of my orders arrive in 2-3 days also their Fried Apple is my all day vape along with the caramel cream
