Hi, I recently just got into using e-cigs about a month ago. I currently use an eGo C 900mah with a CE7 Clearomizer. I do like it, but I want to produce more vapor and to upgrade to a mechanical mod sometime soon. But I want to get more information on mechanical mods, specifically the basics. How do I know I have the right set up, the right batteries, how to care and so on.
If you can pitch in the types of mods that are the best and the ones you personally use/used, that would be great help.

Thanks,
Angie

Sure you want to go straight to a Mech Mod? From my researching that topic they are the more unforgiving of the PV's. No regulation at all of the output, unless you use one of the Power restricting buttons under the battery with basically makes it a APV like my Vamo. Only thing they can do that the APV's cant is run ohms under 1.5. Someone here will probably correct what im saying if im wrong and please do. I love my Vamo with and EVOD tip, i can smoke out a room and i never get close to the upper end of 15W's

Hey there, I'm a new member to ECF; although, been researching for years. I started mechanical mods about 6 months ago (used to use ego/itaste mods). I stated off with mech mods using the k100/k100 by kamry (about $20 on fasttech). be careful because hong kong is cracking down on international sales. my new V3 clone took 5 weeks to deliver (I've heard friends say it took over 12 weeks!). i would start out with the Karmy mods and then move on to something better; IMHO brass is always better, but its more likely to get damaged from everyday use. I also have much preference on mods (brass connections are best), but its all about the rebuildable dripping atomizers you use and the way you wrap (ive had no problems with the igo-L and igo-W). I prefer the igo-W cuz its set up for dual coil and has the post holes. Let me know how your vaping is goin. IMHO mech mods are the way to go, but if your looking for convenience, VV is easier (although more expensive). i spend about $2 a week on wrapping my own coils with mech mods and was spending up $10 on kanger protank coils or cartos for my tanks). if you feel up to tackling the learning curve with RDA's, i think you"ll enjoy it. RDA's are where the flavor are! hit me up!

If it were me (and it once was) I would go to an VV/VW before going to a Mech Mod, simply for the ease of use, while you can't go sub-ohm with a VV/VW you still get PLENTY of vape clouds, it also lets you learn what voltage/wattage is best for your tastes, and is easy to adjust to your liking. I have an ITaste SVD and one of my attys is 1.2ohm so I know they go down at least that far. You can still use RBAs and RDAs if you keep them above 1ohm.

I completely agree with TubaDude. I just recently jumped into mech mods and RBA's from VV/VW mods and I do not regret that step at all. I was able to get a good understanding of voltage, wattage, and ohms. If you want to tinker around and see if it's for you, I'd suggest rebuilding any something like a protank or a BCC. It definitely requires some patience, but it will give you a good idea of how the rebuilding experience will be like. Plus most VV/VW mods have an ohm meter, thus eliminating the need to buy one. If you want clouds with a VV/VW mod, I'd suggest building a microcoil on a pro tank (i have a G50 BCC and it is considered a Pro-tank clone, but it has better features) and I can blow out plumes!

I spent a year or so on the EGO type batteries (1300 mAh, and far right in the pic below) and Kanger tanks (T-2 and Protanks) before I spent the $35 or so on a couple of big 18650 batteries, a charger and a V3 Sentinal clone in all brass from Fasttech (second from the left in the pic below). I have had absolutely no problems with the mech or the batteries, though the cheapo charger is of very low quality and a good Nitecore charger is highly recommended.

A couple of the selling points of the mech -

a) dirt cheap, nearly indestructible and if I do break it I can usually find parts for it at a local Home Depot.
b) no worries about breaking it if dropped, no lcd screen or electronic circuit boards to ruin with spilled ejuice
c) batteries are not only much cheaper than EGOs, they easily last all day long on a single charge
d) if you are not going through the hassle of building your own sub-ohm coils, a normal Protank or Nova type setup will serve you just fine. Protank heads come in 1.8 ohm resistance as well as the 2.2-2.5 ohms, so you can use the lower ohm heads and have a better hit without doing anything fancy.
e) Additionally as long as you aren't running sub-ohm coils you really have no worries about using non-protected batteries. So if you use a regular old tank/carto system on a mech you really have no worries at all about exploding any batteries. At least no more worries than the average person with a discharging li-on battery sticking out of their mouth might have.
f) They look great, function fine, and are easily "modded" to your own personal tastes. I didn't care for the locking ring on the bottom of my V3, so I took it apart, removed it, and bought a brass compression cap at Home Depot for a couple of $ which fits perfectly and matches the color and texture of my entire mech mod, as well as making it 100% safer to carry around. No worries of the firing button locking ring coming loose and the thing firing away in my pocket. A better pic of the compression cap mod I did is in my avatar

I then picked up a KTS Storm mech mod (far left in pic) from a member here, rebuilt the firing button, and while I like it I do not use it quite as much as I do the V3. Same batteries, same type of system - no electronics, simple battery tube and mechanical button.

My Vamo V2 in the pic I also bought from a member here, and while I find it interesting, especially since I have an RSST and made my own ceramic wick, it does not hold my attention like the mechs do. I play with it a bit at home, but my favorite daily vape comes from a mech, hands down, without resorting to complicated super low resistance coils, and without having to do anything fancier than re-wick my Protank flavor wicks now and then with cotton yarn.

I do, however, use the Vamo as an ohm meter when I play at coil building. More so than actually vaping on it.

I went from egos to mechs and im happy. im using panasonic ncr 18650pd in mine and they work well but ill most likely switch to aw imr 18650 1600mah soon because they have a higher continuous amp rating and sound safer.

I have used 3 mechs. kamry kts +, kamry k100 and surefire king mod. all three work great imo obviously the king mod is mech better built and cost 10 times as much as the other two. Between the k100 and kts I perfere the k100, the kts button seems to get hot and I like bottom button more. I ordered a sentinel m16 clone and hope it will be here next week.

make sure you have a good charger, multimeter to check battery life and the resistance of your atomizer and good IMR batteries like the AW 1600mah IMR .

Stick with you eGo batts and try out different clearos and cartos with different resistance, that way you'll learn what you like and how the variance of resistance affects vape. You'll also learn how to tell if the problem is with the batt or eliquid device, it'll help a lot when you advance to either mechs or VV/VW.

In about rwo months time, I went from egos, to twists, to an 18650 vv, and recently got a magneto mech w/ a kick clone.

I'm happy I went this route since I was reading on here the whole time and learned a mess of stuff about the basics (voltage, wattage, resistance, etc.) and, most of all, SAFETY! It also allowed me to find my 'sweet spot'. Now all I really use is my kicked mech, but I never would have felt safe or comfortable if I didn't have the previous steps in place.

I just went form ego to a mod and love it!! I got a Blade and its sleek, sexy and easy to use. It doesn't have all the fancy variable voltage and lcd screens, but it is a small step to those more high end tech mods. I love the vape and the design. I use a Kanger Pro 2 tank, but it is compatible with several different tanks. I'm new to this forum but as soon as I figure out how to upload a picture I will :)

Agreed i was looking to do the same but now im thinking on waiting. right now im using a tenacious 7 750 mAH battery with a ce7 up top but it seems to struggle to start up compared to the time2vape brand tanks i have and the aspire bdc i use occasionally. any input on why this is or what i can buy to possibly generate more vape or even a better pairing for tis battery.
