Hi, I've been a smoker for 14 years and am ready to try one of these e cigs. I purchased this disposable e cig called 'Nova' by Beyond Technologies. It arrived in the mail today and I was eager to give it a shot, however, it did not come close to my expectations. It claims to be high nicotine but I was unable to feel effects. Also, I assumed that exhaling would look like smoke coming out, only its really vapor. I see nothing when I exhale. The blue tip lights up as I inhale but no smoke effect. Did I buy a different type of ecig or is mine broken?

Any help would be appreciated

I would suugest that it is not working good at all. you should see vapor and feel the nicotine for sure. I would really suggest that you purchase a good ecig like a 510 from
Starter Kits : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce
joye 510 starter kit.

this isnt the only supplier but the bottom line is you need a dependable device and something that works well to get the benefits you need..

Vaping is nice but you have to have the tools to do it correctly.

I dont knowthe ecig brand you have.

Sounds like the battery is not suppplying you with enough power or your atomizer isnt working correctly.

good luck.. wish i could tell you more.

I use a 510. my first useless e-cig (from before I found the forum) was about the same size a an analogue, but once I got the 510 I realised that the vaping effect is such a different experience that you cannot compare the two. The vapour production becomes far more important than trying to look like a real cig.

The 510 is available in white if cosmetics are important, but the smaller it is, the less liquid it will hold (so you will be constantly refilling) and the shorter the battery life. I have asked my supplier to get me a mega battery (longer than the normal) to increase this, and when I get time I am considering making a mod that will look nothing like a cig.... Vapour is the prime motivator. I only say this so that once you start, you will not waste money on what you think you want now, only to find a couple of weeks later that you want something different. My suggestion, go with a 510 :)

Modern Vapor has a model called a 902 which is said to have great vapor.
I haven't tried it yet but will soon.
The sidesho from the same company is about the size of a 100 but I got used to it really quick.
I had a DSE084 which is the same size as regular cig (84mm)
I didn't work good for me at all. Just a heads up.
I had 510, also gave great vapor.
Those once again are a little larger but once again you get used to it quickly and it feels comfortable. Rember Vaping is a little differnt from smoking, so if you get an ecig that is a little differnt size it is just part of the experience.
The M401 may also be a comfortable size for you. Once again a little larger than a regular smoke but nice feel either way.

Thank you all for the advice. Now the 510, what company makes that? Sorry if these are dumb questions.

I'd also like to add that the company where I bought the disposable cig from was very easy to contact, friendly and quickly shipped out a replacement. He said that the freezing temp could have dried out the cartridge while in transit.

The 510 is manufactured by Joye in China, but is available from a LOT of different vendors as it is currently the most popular model.

For a quick and dirty intro to the 510, you can order a "disposable" (read: inexpensive knockoff) from Madvapes.com. For $9.99+shipping you get 1 automatic battery, 1 atomizer, a USB charger and a couple of cartridges. I ordered a pack of 8 of these for $68 with free shipping and gave them away as Christmas gifts.

Cignot.com has a great price for a "full" genuine Joye 510 starter kit. $35 for the "no box" kit which is a great starting point, or for a little more you can get a Personal Charging Case and/or a USB passthrough.

Don't be afraid to go on a "flavor quest" because there is no flavor that completely replicates the taste of an analog, but eventually you'll be glad for that anyway. A lot of vendors sell Dekang brand e-liquid from China, but I prefer the quality and variety of ordering from domestic suppliers like Nhaler, Ms. T's Bakery, and Tasty Vapor who mix their own flavors.

Vapy Award Winning "Best Overall Supplier 2009" Nhaler.com has EXCELLENT e-liquids, including their "Lung Juice" which includes a proprietary blend of herbal supplements that help facilitate the healing process.

In the box that isnt included? A box. ;) Basically you don't get the nice looking black box that looks nice in mall kiosks and all the parts come in individual little boxes. Seriously not a big deal.

As for "red LED automatic" versus "red LED manual"...well, the "Red LED" part simply means that the end of the battery has a red LED light that turns on when activated. An automatic battery has a hole in the end that detects when you are inhaling it and automatically turns on the battery. The manual battery is sealed but has a small button on the side so it only turns on when you push the button.

At this point you are probably thinking that you want the automatic. The truth is you probably do not. Some automatic batteries will activate accidentally (not usually a big problem with 510 batteries, but still a risk), but the bigger problem is that you kinda have to give them a hard "primer puff" to get them to turn on and they are unsealed meaning that e-liquid can leak into the battery and lead to its premature demise. The manual batteries, on the other hand, very quickly become second nature to operate and its actually really nice to have full control over your vape so, for example, you can press the button a second before you start inhaling to warm it up a little... Also with the manual battery, it won't cut you off mid-inhale unless you release the button intentionally. Manual batteries are generally sealed which means it is safe to drip e-liquid directly onto the atomizer without fear of a flood dripping into the battery. All around, a manual battery is going to give you a better vaping experience, but some people do still prefer the automatic battery.

+1 to what Thulium had to say.

Welcome to the club. You can refill any cartridges for a 510. You may want to consider a disposable 510 to give it a try. They are about $10 and you can get them from madvapes.com (among other places). If you find you like it then you can get a regular 510 kit and still use the atomizer and carts that came with the disposable kit.
I love my 510. The "stock" cartridges do not taste that great, but will give you a feel for the hardware.
Good luck.
