New to ECF and RDTAs

Hey Guys!

I'm new to EFC, so I'm posting this question in the New Members Forum.

I just ordered the Big Dripper RDTA, and I'm completely new to doing my own coil builds.

I got pulled into dripping after reading all the hype about enhanced flavor and vapor production, and decided to get my feet wet with a pre-built dripping atomizer before trying my hand at rebuilables. I read a few good things here about Ikenvape; but of course, they are notoriously forever out of stock. Tired of waiting, I ordered a pre-built dripping atomizer from Kidney Puncher instead. My experience was... Meh, at best. I did notice a slight improvement on flavor, but not enough to warrant constant dripping. Frustrated, but not yet ready to give up on the legendary flavor and cloud I kept hearing about from RDAs, I stumbled across RDTAs, said to hell with it, and ordered the Big Dripper.

Long story short, I need a lot of insight.
I'm leaning toward purchasing G-plat wire and cotton wick. I'm clueless as to which gauge wire I should try.
How does gauge affect the vaping experience - flavor, cloud, etc?
Same question goes for types of builds as well.
Do I need an Ohm reader, or can I depend on the built in ohm reader in my Vapor Flask? It's a pricey device, so I'd really hate to ruin it via some noob mistake.

Anything else you think I should know, please do tell!

I don't consider myself a cloud chaser, although I do enjoy large, dense clouds. My goal is balance: dense clouds with as much flavor as possible. TIA!

Yes you do need an ohm reader. I would suggest getting one before building any coil. It is important to know what the resisntance is and also to make sure there are no shorts.

For the wire I would suggest some 28g. I started with 32g wire and it was too hard to work with. 28g wire justs seems perfect for me.

Edit: didn't see that you have a built in ohm reader. That should work as long as your device also has short circut protection. I like to build on a separate ohm reader though.

RiP Trippers has a video on YouTube about this atomizer, check it out. He shows his build in it. You have a regulated device with many safety features, so thats good. I suggest you check out Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators to learn some things about building. Other than that, search, read, watch. Good luck.

Thanks! I went ahead a bought an Ohm meter. I can definitely see how it will be easier to build on.

RamShot Rowdy, that link you gave is awesome!

My dripper came in, but it came without instructions! A bit annoying considering the price. I sent an email to Sub Ohm Innovations to verify the authenticity. After that, I'll be sending Grand Vapor Station an email regarding the lack of an instruction booklet. Every video I have watched referenced one, so I know it comes with one... Or is supposed to.
