Hello,
This is my first time posting. I'm simply looking for the best type of E-Cigarette product to purchase. I am 61 years old and have smoked cigarettes for 40+ years ( Menthols) and simply would like to QUIT SMOKING CIGARETTES for good.
I live in Westchester County, New York 10 minutes outside of New York City. Are there retailers someone could recommend where I could go and have a face to face discussion before purchasing an E-Cigarette product?

You can take a look at this, but it doesn't guarantee there is a brick and mortar store, only a suppliers location. Most of us (or many of us) have to do our purchasing online. Whatever you do, stay away from the malls

Welcome Princess, I'm so happy you decided to give this a try....8months ago my mother was in your shoes. 63 and desperate to quit after 43 years. I set her up with an eGo/Riva and after 3 months of use she finally quit smoking completely. I am so proud of her and I'm confident with support and a point in the right direction you can beat the nasty sticks too. This is a great community and I hope you will lean on us for the support you need.

a few pointers I hope will help you.........Your addiction is a heavy one, I suggest a bigger battery for you, like the eGo/Riva.
The slim batteries are more like smoking capries if you remember those....Just not very fulfilling. The second and most important bit of help....Don't approach this as quitting smoking at first...When we decide to quit many of us are over wehelmed with anxiety over giving up our closest friend...Instead look at it as a switch of brands...It's more uncomfortable and takes a bit of getting used to but you won't grieve for the loss this way. Third, if you can't give up smokes right away....it's ok. It takes time for some. Be kind to yourself and give yourself a break when you need it. The final quit will happen but on your personal time frame..No one elses. Good luck and let us know how your doing.

My advice is don't get caught up in the "looks" of the model but concentrate on finding a good model for a beginner from a performance stand point.

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

I would suggest you look at the E-Power 510 or the Riva 510. They are the size of a slim cigar or sharpie pen. Unlike the mini models that last about an hour on a charge, you will get around 5 hours of battery time on these and provide warmer vapor than the mini's without the hassle of constantly changing batteries. I recommend staying with manual batteries (small button) which provides warmer vapor, more control and are safer than auto batteries. I would also get some blank cartomizes that you fill with eliquid in the 18mg - 24mg nicotine strength level which most need initially to transition to vaping.

Princess, welcome. You have taken the first step, I applaud you. I too smoked for 40+ years and still have 3 or 4 cigs a day. I don't put myself down for it because there is now some light and hope for me, where before there never was.

I will not say to you that this vaping business is as easy as walking down to the store and picking up a pack of cigs. I will say it has been the best thing for me and the benefit extends to my family as well. There is no one thing that fits all of us. It will be a bit of trial and error but worth it.

This place, ECF, and all the wonderful folks share the same addiction, all struggled to different degrees, and all are ready to provide you information and support because we know firsthand this is a viable doable way to quit the nasty habit. From my perspective, learn to use your gear properly, whatever you choose, read up on it, try different solutions to your issues and ask for help. Don't feel dumb or stupid about any question you may have. We have all been there.

Welcome to ECF. Unfortunately I am not aware of any brick and mortar stores in the NYC area. I live 10 mins from NYC as well and have looked expecting in an area with such a high population there was bound to be one but have yet to find one. Buying online isn't that bad though, there is plenty of good information here on ECF and lots of helpful members to aid you.

Princess, sorry I got a little carried away on my post and didn't answer your question. I am not at all opposed to visiting one of the mall kiosks that sell e-cigs, though I wouldn't buy anything there, overpriced by a whole lot.

However, you can check out their products to give you an idea of some options, how it feels, how it is put together, etc. Most of the ones I have visited in many parts of the country have also allowed me to vape on their gear.

I was also a 40+ year smoker. I was fortunate to be able to lay the analogs down after one day of vaping. Never in a million years that that would happen, but it did.

Same fortune here. Was able to quit after the first day! Only problem, is that I'm replacing one habit with another, but this is way more fun!
