New to ECF - New to Vaping - Wanted to say Hello =D

Hey guys, I've been reading the forums for a couple weeks as I've been mentally preparing myself to quit smoking. Decided to make an account and become a participating member of this community.

I'm 25, from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I'm a financial planner, 420 friendly and enjoy relaxing/partying with the girlfriend/friends and playing video games when I'm not working (Starcraft 2, Eve Online - I refuse to grow up and stop playing :D)

A couple years ago I had my first encounter with e-cigs. My girlfriend bought me one while she was in Texas, it came with a few packs of pre-filled cartridges containing nicotine (16mg). She spent about $200 USD for the kit (ripped off big time). On the packaging it's called the "Smoking Everywhere Gold One Edition" referencing smokingeverywhere.com - website no longer works, think the company went out of business. I tried the e-cig a few times but wasn't serious about quitting smoking, so it got tucked away.

I'm currently trying to quit smoking, so I pulled this thing out storage and have been vaping on and off the past few days, I've drastically reduced the amount of cigarettes I'm smoking but still have not had a completely smoke free day.

Seeing as how the e-cig I have right now is a very basic one, using disposable cartridges (which I cannot find online since the company went out of business) I've decided to jump right into this and buy myself a a proper vaporizer. I went with the Innoken iTaste V3.0 starter kit, and purchased three 10ml bottles of e-liquid (Habanos 18mg, Midnight Express 18mg, Strawnanna Smoothie 18mg) all of which came from altsmoke.com

Anyways, excuse my big block of text, just wanted to say hi and state where I'm coming from.

I'm still in the infantile stages of learning about e-cigs, taking my first steps so to speak. Any advice/links to good sources of information etc would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Good for you for doing your homework and research, and getting mentally prepared. I smoked for over 40 years, so I had a lot of mental preparation. I thought to myself every night, before I went to sleep: I need to quit smoking.:)

Like you, I tried the cigalikes, and it let me know that the concept of e cigarettes might work for me, and that I could quit. I got an ego starter kit and some juice, and haven't lit up a cigarette since New Years Day this year.

This will work for you if you want it to. It is not the same as smoking, but has been a very viable alternative for me. It's a little more trouble, and takes some fiddling with equipment sometimes, but you will get the hang of it pretty quickly, I think. I did, and I'm not the most patient person or technically inclined.

Good luck to you.

There are so many friendly, informative people on this forum to answer any questions you might have as you go along. Just ask, and someone will have the answer.

I know lots of people find Youtube to be a valuable resource. There are lots of e cig videos there - some wonderful and some not.

You do need to have at least 5 posts in the Newcomers forum before you can post in the others, but you are welcome to read almost everywhere in the meantime.

Thanks for the encouraging words Buggainok. I've been smoking since I was 15 years old, so 10 years now. Which seems to be nothing compared to your 40... Very inspiring.

Caridwen, thanks for the link, was reading this earlier, also I've seen people referring to a e-juice list for Canadians, what is the purpose of this? I've read that many companies won't ship e-juice containing nicotine to Canada due to health regulations. I purchased nicotine e-juice from altsmoke without issue (although I havn't received it yet in the mail).

Your experience will improve as you find better gear and flavors you like. Do lots of sampling to find those flavors.

Lastly, keep in mind...the older you get and the longer you smoke cigarettes, the harder it is to quit. Work your .... off to quit. You wont regret it. Good luck.

Hello NorthTown. Welcome aboard. Ask ask ask all the questions you need to. I've been on the forums for just a couple of months and I've found answers to virtually everything I've asked. Took me a few weeks/setups to get dialed in, but I've finally (after over 25 years) dropped the regular cigarettes in lieu of the electronic version(s).

to ecf and glad you are giving vaping a try. Lots of wonderful people here and you can get answers to just about any question you could ever come up with. I smoked and vaped for a long time and just kept cutting back on cigarettes because the didn't taste as good. At some point I just started vaping full time and I've never looked back. There is something about vaping that amazes me everyday not to mention all the benefits. Good luck to you. :)
