I've been lurking around here for the past two weeks and amazed at the volume of information here. I would have likely made more money these last few weeks but I was fascinated by this concept. So after reading I find my self with a few questions. I can not find a definitive answer as to if this is legal in the US. I have ordered a disposable pack of NuCigs from Cheepecigs.com or whatever their name is and am wondering if I'm going to get a nasty call from Customs in the next few days. I also ordered from a US company (JC) some juice samples and they indicate that my order is on its' way. So I just have no idea of the legal status.

Also, is there any poll that has been taken as to how many folks have made the transition from tobacco to vaping? Stats like how many switched straight away without smoking a single analog again, or who had dropped analogs after a measured time frame, sorta like that BS step down patch program (tried that).

That's my questions now here are my thoughts. I'm a 46 year old smoker that started in my teens and am up to a pack and a half. I actually enjoy smoking but with the social leprosy stigma and the fact that I know that I'm hurting my chance to some day take my (yet to be) grand-kids fishing, I realize that it's time to do something about feeding this monkey a better diet.

Like so many here, I have tried and failed miserably over and over. So, understanding that I am a nico junkie and not a tar addict (and the 4800 other bad boys in tobacco) this looks like a good way to get that fix and not turn me into the Jekyll that normally comes out when I try to quit. Basically, I look at the ecig as a way NOT to quit but rather reduce the trash I'm getting along with my nicotine. Sorta like having a good glass of single malt scotch or you can trash it out with ice, coke, water or what ever...just give me the good stuff.

Like all here I was interested as to the safety of this product and have read the BS from FDA. My opinion is...hey buddy if you are so concerned about one or two trace elements then take a look at your municipal water report and tell me why all that crap is "okey dokey" and earns a superior water quality rating.

I understand that anything intended for human consumption needs standards. Otherwise, we would have foods with bad pesticides, toys with lead, produce with salmonella and e-coli, and drugs that have worse side effects that the symptoms (like death).....wait...uhm...come to think about it we do and that's....the FDA's department. Oh well, we still need standards and it falls to those geniuses to investigate any consumption and medical product. That's the job we placed on them even if they suck at it.

So the big fear is that big pharma and big tobacco will want control and their big slice of the pie along with big government. I remember back when the Internet was in its' infancy. My geek friends insisted that I be "connected". I played around with it for years wondering why anyone would ever really need this crap. Well by the mid 90s the commercial viability caught on like wild fire and overnight a bazillion ISPs were born and there was a ton of money made. Naturally the big boys were watching their big slice of pie dwindle and they started buying up all the small ISPs. Now look around at who is the Internet, ATT, Comcast and AOL. Do we have better Internet because of the big guys, does it cost more, sure but no one is worse off for it. The same has been played out in American history with the auto, oil, software, computer, industry, etc. So to this will be the course with the ecig and unless I have the backing of an RJ Reynolds there ain't a damn thing I can do to stop it (except of course to build my own PV and blend my own juice ;)).

And what of big government. Even though it seems like the sky should clear, the angels should be singing and the flowers start blooming before our eyes (because this IS a way to get all us nasty analog smoke-pots off tobacco for good) does not mean that BG is not going to want to maintain their big slice as well. Just like the stats show, 46 mil smokers x 1 pack a day x 3.00 tax x 365 days =50.3 billion. Sure we know BG can spend twice that amount in the time it takes to smoke an analog, but they will still need their fix. Everyone is starting to think electric cars will be the saving grace of our world, but I think it will be just like the ecig, because it will eliminate the .40 or so cents per gallon tax which has a few more zeros behind it than the tax on cigs. Think about it like this, we made this gigantic monster and like our nico monkey it has a big appetite and if one food sourse is gone then .

So when the smoke clears (pun intended), all I can hope for is to be able to reduce the 4800 nastys that I currently consume and can take my grand-kids fishing because the FDA did its' usual *****y job and approved a consumption product because it has less to worry about than city tap water (us switching to vaping is about like everyone switching to bottled water don't you think?). And like I point out I'm sure we will be buying our VPs from some big company because they will swallow up the little ones, and there will be a tax because the FDA will do its' job and find some nasty that will constitute the need for a sin tax just like on my scotch.

That's how I see it...lets go fishin...are ecigs water proof?

They are completely legal right now at this time.
We will soon find out if that status changes.

I haven't seen a poll like that, but it seems like a good idea for a poll.
:)

My guess is that around 50% quit smoking cigarettes right away.
Around 45% quit after tapering down for some varying length of time.
And around 5% still smoke a few cigarettes here and there.

This is, of course, after having used them for long enough to know where you really stand.

Brand new-to-be vaper...my 402 and Clove Ejuice are on the way. I've smoked for the past 20 years, but the last 7 have been Djarums. If the FDA had not have acted, I'd probably still be smoking. So, I approach this with trepidation and excitement, and hope that this time, for good, the days of exceptional professional stigma (I'm a lawyer), and chronic bronchitis are behind me.
