New to filling carts - Are they supposed to crackle?

So I just filled my first cart (yay!) with Johnson Creek Red Oak Domestic. I'm using volt cartomizers and the volt automatic battery.

Let it sit for a half hour and it tastes great, although the vapor is quite strong and there's a crackling noise in the cartomizer at each hit. Did I do something wrong?

No, a bit of crackle is what you'd expect from a carto. If you're getting good hits out of it, it's normal.

what does gurgle mean?

if you get a gurgle it means that you have overfilled and now you have some juice in the airflow tube in the middle.blow through the carto and no more gurgles

oh ok. i've been very careful to only drip down the sides of the carto top so that none gets in the airflow tube. Does 18-20 drops at a time sound right?

Crackling is the sound of carto heaven.

I'm not sure about the number of drops to top it off when it starts getting dry, but you'll know it's ready to hit when the inside is nice and wet. Sounds sexy, I know.

Crackle good...
Gurgle not good.
As for how many drops?
When I used cartos, I would add slowly...about 5 drops at a time and rest. Then, continue til it got slushy.
I know there are videos out there showing how to push juice from the bottom using the plastic cover.

There are many ways and means to fill them. I fill from the bottom and add from the top. I also blow my carto's out onto a paper towel before use to make sure it doesn't Gurgle..

Not only is it supposed to crackle, but some well known reviewers still prefer cartos due to that noise...

That is the result you desire you are hearing, that sweet juice atomizing into vapor.

Golden rule for cartos though, keep, them...WET!
Not too much to the point of painfully obvious flooding. In time you will become more proficient at this.

So is it wise to maybe fill with 20 drops, let it sit for a half hour, hit it a few times, fill it again with 10 more, let it sit etc until it's nice and slushed?

Yes, you want the top to look a bit like a fresh slushee, not melted.

is it ok after to filling them to let them sit for a day or so before use, or do they dry up like that?

I always had a carto in a tank but I don't see them drying out over night. You might want to check that the carto is still wet before hitting tho.
