Hi, I've picked up a Kraken rba with the genesis system to try out using different wicking materials than those I am already familiar with.(cotton/silica) Also, the hobbyist in me demanded more fiddling about and use of all the new tools, drill bits and other materials required!! My goal is to find the ideal build to achieve a great flavourful vape,
Although experimenting is fun, I was wondering what some of you more experienced genesis tank guru's have as setups and would appreciate some input.

Here's what I've tried so far:

2 micro coils with cotton wicks- the cotton expanded and soaked up almost all the juice..good flavor though!
2 micro-coils with steel rope wrapped in a small amount of cotton-great wicking and no need to tilt.
Steel mesh dual setup with 4-5 wraps 28 gauge kanthal-lots of hotl spots before it cleared up and some dry hits.

These are my first attempts at each of these builds and they weren't too bad. Next build will be steel rope + mesh tops just to compare with the cotton wrapped rope. Reckon I might be getting too much of a hot vapor with the dual setup which killed the flavor somewhat. If I use thinner gauge wire.(higher resistance) I could keep the dual build I guess.

Would love to hear some opinions on the 'ultimate jenny build' for flavor.

cheers:toast:

yep, that's pretty much the next build I will be trying and I always try using the same juice so I know what to expect from it! Thanks lamarrk for the recommendation. The French part od the island is the better half! if you get back here sometime you should head over to Orient Beach, it's perfect for avoiding the shopping:2cool:

I've heard that about Orient Beach. :D The one time we had the opportunity to go, it was raining. Figured that would ruin the "bird" watching.
Philipsburg was the 1st place I'd ever had to pay to use a restroom. All that beer and no place to go. :(

I would get another atty.

It's a personal thing. Most of the employees at my local vape shop use gennies and love them. I have a Kracken, clone, and gave up on it for Foggers, Kayfun, clones, and a Russian.

The Karcken leaked and was touchy to build and required a lot more maintenance. People said a genny tastes better but I can not tell the difference.

So for me there were down sides and no up for the Kracken.

OK, I guess I like it because I'm new to all this gear really! Have to admit I don't vape on it all that much since i have a magma and a patriot which really both deliver full flavor and warm vapor. Honestly, I just started doing better builds in my kayfun and prefer that over the genny.
Got so much gear so fast I think I've confused myself!!!

I love my kraken much more then my kayfun. With the right build you can have same or better flavor AND get massive clouds. The only problem you will have is leaking and that is avoidable, you just have to keep it upright. A tradeoff I'm willing to live with.

I use ss wire rope wrapped with ekowool sleeve. You get all the wicking power of ss wire rope with none of the metallic flavor or hot spotting problems.

oh, I like that! Another build to try. 2 questions: can I use some silica for this build as I don't have ekowool and whats the difference between them? Also, looks like the ss rope could be touching the base, is this a problem? I've been cutting mine a good 5mm from the tank base.

Potential for shorts looks ominous with using metallic drip tips due to how high up the build is and I see you keep yours well below the positive terminal.

Thanks for the input Scy123

Welcome aboard, noos!
I've been to Saint Martin quite a few times (was in the US Navy) it was a regular port o' call when I was in. Beautiful place... got the best spiced rum in the world from there! And LOVE the guavaberry liquer!! :D

Anyway, a build for the genny that you can try is dual coil it like you already are, but wick it with just rayon (cellucotton).
You'll want to trim it so that it is really thin on the inside of the tank, but still really thick and tight inside the actual coil.
I had my Perseus genny coiled to .3 ohms with the same wick. No dry hits, no tilting required... had to open up my airholes a bit though... I can actually get dripper vapes out of a genny with the right build! Awesome flavor and vapor... I've dialed the resistance back up to around .8 now... same wick style. Very satisfying vape, IMO.

I've never heard of anyone using silica but ekowool is 95-98% Pure Silica, must be just a brand name of it. If you can push the wire rope into the silica I don't see why not, I never worked with silica, but with ekowook it is very hard to push the wire in. I widen the hole with a good sized drill bit first then carefully insert the wire.

The ekowool is insulating the wire rope so i don't see a problem with it touching the bottom and never had issues with it. The wire rope will be touching the side of the wick hole anyways.

If you build it to high it will touch the top of the sleeve but I cut it just leveled with the positive terminal. and it will not touch the top. Now that you mention it.. metallic drip tips could cause a problem, but I only use ceramics.

Most bar/rest. are required to have restrooms by law and free of charge. A lot of public facility's charge a small fee and that is pretty much universal in most of Europe like train stations etc,

Of course had you been drinking beer at the beach, a quick dunk in the 'big blue' would suffice!!:toast:

Pretty limited here for accessory's so stuck with what I grab when off island unfortunately! I've read about using rayon (cellucotton) and wonder where I might find some. What other applications does it have?

I was building my dual coils between 0.4 - 0.5ohms and found that to be too hot for me, even 6mg nic was hitting pretty hard. Likewise, I'm heading back up towards the 1 ohm mark. Hey maybe I should make some island flavor liquids like quavaberry, can think of some better fruit flavors as I find it rather bitter. Thanks for the help:)

Yep, I started using non-conductive material drip tips as it looked pretty sketchy to me and with my lack of experience i put safety first! Thanks for the suggestion, I will see how I get on with silica rope in 3mm. How long does that ss rope last if you keep oxidizing it...indefinitely? I don't have much and will have trouble finding more i expect.

That looks pretty neat. What gauge wire are you using to get .8 with 11 wraps on a dual setup? More surface should equal more vapor and flavor right?

Now this rayon (Cellucotton) I have a big bag of something that looks just like that which I use for the filter system inside my aquarium! Could that be the stuff? Says Polyester filler fibre on the bag...

I don't oxidize my ropes so I can't say. But they will last me till it frays. That one in the pic has been going on since I started using it 2 months ago. I had another one that was bigger diameter and it lasted me like 2 weeks before I frayed it doing a build.

Mine are fraying due to cutting them down in length with a hacksaw since none of my other tools could get through it! trip to the hardware store is in order for some good wire clippers me thinks:( if this is the only reason to change it.

Rayon cellucotton coils are used in beauty salons when they dye hair. They wrap it around the head or something to keep the dye from running/dripping. If there is any kind of beauty supply shop, you may find it there... just make sure it is 100% rayon (it will say it on the box).
There is a very long thread about rayon, but it is definitely worth the read here: Rayon Wick for Better Flow/Flavor/Saturation/Nic Hit

I think a guavaberry juice could be really good! You're right, it is a bit bitter, but with a little sweetener and maybe some creamy/custardy flavor, I think I'd like it... or maybe even a guavaberry pie flavor! :)

NOOOOOOOO!!! Do not use the poly fill!! That stuff is bad with heat! Test it with a cigarette lighter some day, it'll melt and smell bad... definitely not something you want to vape on...
