So, I got my Janty Stick today and love it but I'm a bit worried.

Smoking around the office, two of my coworkers pulled me aside and told me that my new e-cig looks very similar to something one would use to smoke narcotics. I was not aware that there were devices that did this and looked like the Janty Stick.

I'm now worried about walking down a city street and having a cop come and question me. It's one thing to have a cop come and tell me I can't smoke where ever I'm smoking. That's happened to me once and it's easily solved. I smiled and unscrewed my Npro and actually handed it to him saying, "Check it out. It's actually not a cigarette. It vaporizes nicotine to help me quit. Only looks like a cigarette." He was amused, looked it over just out of curiosity and, handed it back to me and actually said "Neat" which seemed out of character for a guy of his build.

Anyone, I figure it would be a completely different situation if a cop came up to me because he thought I was smoking something illegal. He would be more aggressive and I don't want to have to deal with that ever time I have to walk to the bus stop...

Has this happened to anyone? Is this a valid concern?

I'd be more worried about your co-workers that seem to have an intimate knowledge of narcotic smoking devices...

i grew up in Miami i seen all kinds drug paraphernalia never used any of it my sell i seen what it dose to ppl first hand

for the most part e-cig dont look drug paraphernalia if a cop questions you about it he sould know the dfrence. just dont pack a seringe and bent spoon with you vaping gear it screms ......

I've had my JS for 3 days now. I haven't used it out yet, still take my 510 with me to the bar or wherever.

You could just lie and tell them it's doctor prescribed, or use the new term for e-cigs, "electronic nicotine inhalator". It makes it sound more scientific and official.

If all else fails, make yourself an outfit from aluminum foil and explain that you're from the future.

Its worse than that, when your co-workers think/want to have an intimate knowledge of narcotic smoking devices, yet don't know what one looks like.

Might be worth a laugh to give them a crack rock (fake would work I think) and see what they come up with to try it out. Might be able to pass off a gravel rock as a crack rock to those folk. LOL

To be honest, the first time I saw a Janty Stick...that's the first thing that came into my head in terms of what it looked like (size/shape of many such devices you see in head shops). Up close I would imagine a cop would recognize that it is not drug paraphernalia, but that doesn't prevent potential confrontations if they see you from a distance.

Ah, Okay. Now we have someone in the thread that apparently sees what ever it was that my co-workers saw. I know we are not supposed to talk about narcotics but, I have to ask, what device does it look like? Something you smoke crack with? Marijuana? Horse tranquilizers? I just want to know the level of emotional response I'm gonna get from a cop. I'm figuring if its marijuana, he'll be aggressive but that's fine. As stated above, the move cops that know, the better it is for all of us vapers. If it's crack or horse tranquilizers, I might get tackled : ) Just good thing for me to know AHEAD of time.

The Janty just delivers so much more visible vapor than the sticks that people associate with e-cigs. That's why they would stand out more.
They come in some markets with janty belt clip leather pouch and once inside these, the whole thing resembles a small cell phone/mobile phone with the tip looking the part of the antenna.
You could always just say it's one of those new micro cell phones. Nobody will bat an eyelid. Smoke? Oh it caught alight but you blew it out:D

Well, a cigar can look the same way, if it is hand rolled. People just arent aware of these mods yet, and by people like us educating them, they will spread the word and before long, noone will look twice. however, if you think it may tarnish ur image in the workplace, Id get a penstyle or similar and keep the JS for the car/home/wkends. Police, on the other hand are debriefed on new devices almost daily by fellow officers and meetinngs w/in the dept so they themselves are aware of whats out there and the laws on them. From afar they may seek suspision, but when they get closer I doubt they will approach you. I vape a Chuck and SB and SD in ppublic while working in 2 states, I educate my coworkers and now they are like "is that ur new ecig mod?" "can i try that one?" lol. Its all about what UR comfortable with I suppose :)

Or how about this: "Drug device? Hey, what's this thing? Where'd my harmonica go? Very funny guys, give it back!"

Crack Pipe?! Haha no I really don't think crack heads...or is it Crack Heads...invest in fancy machinery to process their rocks. They're more of a glass tube kind of crowd if memory serves me. An I think they prefer to huddle in alleys and doorways whilst imbibing rather than jaunting down the street towards the bus stop. Srsly, have you ever seen someone tooling down the sidewalk with a lighter to a glass tube?

I have had one of my customers relate to me that he was puffing his titanium 510 at a stop light and a cop pulled him over. He explained it to the cop, taking apart the batt atty and cart, showing him a bottle of vanilla eliquid. The cop gave it a sniff and let him go straight away.

I have also had several customers tell me that an 801 in chrome looks like a crack stem to them and they wouldn't consider vaping it in public (they use white 901's with brown round carts and red LEDs).

I have a janty stick on order for personal use as my 601 pipe burned out in my briefcase one day - melted the cart as well. I'm certain I'll use it in public without any major concern - the occasional explanation goes with the territory.

Ummm their should be no worries.. I mean OP has some legit concerns, but if you look guilty people may think you are.... I haven't had ANY problems with my JS going through international Airport customs, vaping in public,, or sticking it in my nose.... the last is a lie...my daughter said I was Growdy hehe...I was just being a silly dad.

This other talk is just idle banter....don't be worried ...and yes people may question , but for the most part people usually mind their own business. Just use basic common sense
