I envision a sign on the door of the shop I have to get supplies that says "Discussion of tobacco will not be tolerated ".

With the current demonization of eliquid with flavorings and nicotine I'm sure that's not far off..

I love vaping basil during dinner. It greatly enhances the flavour of my tomato soup and spaghetti

I make these posts partly in jest, but I'm also compelled to point out the double standard that is set by allowing these ads on this site.

There is no "double standard". Advertising is through a third party, which we have no control over. The only thing we can do is contact and request our site be bypassed for such ads.

In the future, instead of trying to stir the pot, contact one of the staff so they can contact the bosses and have them fix the situation.
