New to Mech Mods and VERY EXCITED need some safety tips!!

So i just recently bought a Tree of Life clone and a Trident rda. My clone only comes with the 26650 battery tube. I know this is a relatively large battery and i also know it is further behind in development when compared to some of the smaller slimmer batteries. I am curious as to what battery is the safest for use. im not going to be vaping in very low ohms usually around .8 - 1.5.. Those are what i have tried and seem to like the best. Is this to large of a range for a single battery and what battery should i be using if it is not to large of a range.

Thanks a ton and sorry if i know nothing about Mech mods I'm working hard at figuring it out
:p

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

Running a 0.8ohm coil will draw 5.25A on a freshly charged battery (4.2v). I don't think there is a 26650 10A battery so you could use a 20A or higher battery and be VERY safe. See blog #9 below for a list of safe batteries

================

Here are many links to guide you through the world of mech mods & rebuildables. I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding mods and rebuildables are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

17. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

16. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

MECHANICAL MODS & REBUILDABLES

7. Information Resources for Your First RBA
* An essential read and reference guide for someone new to rebuilding coils. Includes a multitude of useful links on battery safety, mod safety, coil meters, coil building, and the differences in the three types of RBA's.

15. Inexpensive Mechanical Mod and RDA Setup
* A response to the frequently asked question on how to get into rebuildable atomizers with a mechanical mod inexpensively. Includes a list of commonly used tools and supplies for rebuilding and where to find them.

COILING CALCULATOR

Here are a few links for you regarding building coils and getting the resistance just where you want it:
1. Steam Engine
2. Coil Toy Calculator

Make sure to check your build with an ohm reader or DMM before putting it on your mod and firing it.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

Please don't apologize for your lack of knowledge when it comes to mechs and safety. I'm sure I speak for most on the forum when I say, thank you for actually asking the right questions and trying to be as safe as possible.
The links Susan-S provided are a great place to start learning all you need to know.

What were you using before?

learn about dc theory. / ohms law.
get a battery thats recommended in the mech mod / batterie safety thread.
get a decent digital multimeter. I recommend fluke
understand how to test resistance with your multi meter including your meters internal resistance.
make absolutely sure you know there are no shorts before fireing the device.
ohmslaw.gif

my bin of goodies for doing my builds is

2 pairs of needle nose pliers one short and a longer skinny pair.
combo flathead/Phillips screwdriver
small precision screwdrivers and a few small drill bits.
a nail
tester
finger nail clippers

I have been using an itaste v3 VV/VW

An itaste v3 and what? one of the plastic iclear clearomizers?

The batteries to use are the ones labelled "IMR". These are the safe chemistry batteries.
They would also have an amp rating; many are 20amp and some are 30amp.

Unfortunately with 26mm size you won't find kick modules or fuses for your mech as easily as for a regular 18mm size.

For 0.8 to 1.5 ohms, that sounds like 28 gauge single coil;
If you want to stay in that ohm range but with dual coils, you'll need to use thinner gauge.

If your v3 still works you can use that to measure the ohms of your coil.

I was using a BDC atomizer inside of an Aspire ET-S clearomizer.
I will double-check the rules to make sure i can post a link to the RBD that I purchased. it has dual coil capability i know for sure. I do believe that the dual coils produce more vapor am I correct?

Yes, dual coils have two coils so it's like vaping 2 coils at once; uses up more power and vaporises eliquid faster.

(and for posting links you might not be able to until you post some more - 15)

Amps = Volts/Ohms

These kinds of batteries when fully charged are at 4.2v
And i will be shooting for lets say 1ohm

Amps of the battery needed=4.2v/1.0ohm
meaning i will need a 4.2 Amp battery??
EDIT:
Following that logic this battery that i found on Baditude's website should be a good fit for my needs
MNKE IMR 26650 3500mah 20A?
what does the 3500mA/H mean in this case?

You'll want to go here to do the math becuase it will fill in any of the missing links.. Ohm's Law Calculator

Just happens to be easy on a 1 ohm build, and you are correct. 4.2 amps.. And it will be pushing 17.64 watts. Go below 1 ohm, that's when it gets a little dicier.

the higher the mAH, the more charge it holds.
