Okay, so ive been vaping on an ego twist for 3-4 months now. Im very interested in RDA's and MABY some sub ohm coils after experience.

Ive chosen to go with mech mods as apposed to VW/VV simply because its a lot more appealing to me. More slick designs, way more durable, etc etc.

Ive been doing alot of research and think I am ready to order my first mod. Most likely im going to buy the hammer clone with some 18650 IMR AW 1600 mah batteries. My plan is to be doing builds between 1.5 - 2 ohms starting, then slowly going down from there. Although there's still alot of paranoia in my head about possible thermal runways or venting, even though these are 'safe chemistry' batteries. So I have a few questions.

1. It seems the 1600 mah is rated at about 10 amps, how close can i get my ohms to pulling that safely? I.E If a build requires 9 amps is it still safe?

2. I know to only charge the batteries up to 4.2 v and never discharge past 3.2, does amperage stay the same throughout discharging the battery?

3. What chargers do you guys prefer to use?

Any opinions/suggestions/Ideas are greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Thanks,
for a mechanical mod/rda ur best bet is the sonyvtc4 30a battery.all the sub ohm vapers use them so its a battery that will cover ur current needs and you can grow into it. I just bought 3 myself...currently vaping a .6 ohm twisted 28 gauge microcoil with it....good luck

welcome to the ECF. sounds like an well thought out plan. i would go with the sony 30 amp batteries. the new 2600 MAH are available now. i just bought 4 here today. 18650 Sony US18650VTC5 2600mAh High Discharge Flat Top [Sony US18650VTC5 2600] - $9.99 : Illumination Supply, Quality Flashlights and More! . that way you take your main worry out of the way from the start. buy at least a couple and when you notice the vapor production fall off, swap it out with a fresh one. the main thing you don't want to do is over discharge. i can tell when my bats get down to 3.8 volts. quite a bit of info here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/129569-rechargeable-batteries.html . i also use a nitecore intelligent charger and am very happy with it. there are more expensive and maybe better chargers available. i suggest getting the best you can afford. this should give you a good start. best of luck.

I don't think a hammer can support an 18650 battery(its too big, you'd need a smaller battery that would be compatible).

10 amps safest you could build down to is 0.5 ohm

^ for your battery questions

Nitecore intellicharger i4

Reccommend a sony battery vtc 30a either the vtc4, or vtc5. If you want to build sub-ohm.

Those batteries put out 30 amps continuously, its safe to use even on setups that only require 4-5 amps correct?

they CAN discharge up to 30 amps...they safest batteries i know of for any vaping situation. especially variable voltage/ low ohm mechanicals. over kill for sure for most "normal vaping" but a must for the previously mentioned uses. best to start out safe and remain that way:D i am not an expert although there are plenty of those catching a nap about right now. check back if you need more details.

High amp batts are safe … anything rated that high will be within safety range

btw… I still prefer AW IMR 1600's for sub ohms because I got the word from AW himself that they are 15C (not 10C) which means they are 24amps.

I also read the 10c rating by a lot of vendors, but saw 15c on others so i emailed AW he said in 2011 they were upgraded. Its still my favorite.

good luck on your mechanical adventures….

AW IMR 18490's are 15c as well!
