So I have been vaping a while and have gotten into mods and RDA's. I have a Hammer clone and a stillare v2 currently that I am playing with. Really confused about sub-ohm vaping and what ohm coils I should be trying to build. Currently using 28ga kanthal and organic Cotton. Still not getting the cloud/flavor combos I want. My coils come in at about 0.5 ohms. Should I be trying to reduce the ohms or increase them and how? See some incredible coil builds on the web but do those really make that much difference? Any help from your experience is appreciated.

Its really just trial and error in finding what works for you. There is no single magic coil, there are many many great coils. So experiment, keep a log with all the data and your experience for each coil, and keep tweaking till you find the right combo.

First, BE SAFE!!!! The lower the resistance of your coils, the higher the amp draw on your batteries. Use a calculator such as Ohm's law | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators. ex. a .5ohm coil at 4.2V (a freshly charged battery) would equal 8.4amp draw. If you drop the ohms, you increase the amp draw. If you exceed your batt max amp draw it could vent hot gases or explode. So know how many amps your battery can handle, and use the calc to be sure you will not exceed their limit.

If you use less wire by doing fewer wraps, or by making a smaller diameter coil you will decrease the ohms. You could also do dual coils; by adding a second coil you will reduce the overall resistance by 1/2. Getting more flavor and vapor could be achieved by lowering the resistance of your coils, but also by getting enough air-flow as well as getting the position of the air-holes just right. You generally want them as close to the coil as possible, either just beside or just below the coil.

I would play with the air-flow on your .5ohm coil before going lower. Use a liquid w/ more VG if you want bigger clouds. A 0.4-0.5ohm coil seems to be the sweet spot for me, though 0.4ohm is a bit on the warmer side.

One more thing, the majority of people say that they get more flavor from drippers but that is not the case for me. I have a Quasar RDA and a Kraken gennie; both have a very airy draw and while they put out clouds I do not get much flavor from them. I get more flavor from my Kayfun and Evod/Protank which all have a much more restrictive airway. I guess it has something to do w/ the vapor being condensed... not really sure, but you may be in the same boat as me.

Have you tried a tank system before, for comparison of flavor?

I'm going to go ahead and say this. Do not vape with these batteries anymore... The XXX Fire batteries are known to be a horrible off brand battery... Try and get Efest, AW, MNKE or some Sony's. If you're looking for 18350's I'd go with AW. They are a great manufacturer.

I'm no battery expert, but from the 2 minutes of google searching/researching I did on them -- I personally wouldn't use them in my mech mod. I don't think these are 'chemistry safe' batteries. Please be careful

Can someone who knows more about batteries please back me up or prove me wrong here?

K... I could not find an amp rating on those. Generally you do not want to use any of the batteries w/ 'fire' in its name. Those batteries are lithium ion which if I am not mistaken can potentially explode and vent fire/gas if sent into a thermal runaway by exceeding the max amps. Lithium manganese are safer chemistry batteries, they will vent gases but not explode.

I def WOULD NOT go below .5ohms, prob not even below 1 ohms w/ those batteries. That may be the reason your flavor and vape aren't there. Those batteries are just not up to task. You want 'Safer Chemistry' IMR high drain batteries, such as AW, Sony, Panasonic, Efest ect. If you want to stick with 18350 batteries you may wanna look at the purple Efest IMR 10.5amp 18350's. @10.5amps you could safely get to 0.45ohms (.5ohms would max out the battery @ 10.5amps; not a good idea, its best to stay a bit under the max amp draw of your batt.)

If you really wanna get below 0.45ohms safely you will need to get into 18650 size batteries w/ some 30amp Sony VTC4/VTC5 or the 30amp purple Efest IMR's.

If you got the extension battery tube with your hammer I would try to pick up an 18650 battery. I know it might not look as good but the battery life on them is much better. The Sony VTC5 has 2600 mah rating and rated for 30 amps. So if you ever decided go lower you're safe. Now there are efests that work great but have a very low mah for 18350. The Purple 10.5 amp 18350 is rated for 700 mah. So not a very long time. Also recommend only buying your batteries from Orbtronics or RTDVapor. Both are reputable places.

Also was googling... couldn't find anything about an amp limit. They are Unprotected Li-Ion though. So when/if these things vent.... BOOM!

I think we both did the exact same process, just I started a minute later than you. As soon as I saw Li-Ion a voice popped into my head: "Back to the threaaaddd! Hurry! Hurry! We must warn him before it's too late!"
