I don't think it will hurt anything by leaving it plugged in. After all, the USB works like a charger. What would be the point of unplugging it if it's also supposed to be a PT and a stand alone battery?
To be safe, if you leave it plugged in, remove the carto from it when you leave.

I have to agree with WoH. There is a lot of misunderstanding about USB ports in computers and how they are powered, protected and an function. In general, a USB is an automatically dedicated 5v power plug. If one believes, and there are reasons to be safe, that nothing should be plugged into anything unattended, then disconnect. Many people have, mice, keyboards, camera, cell phone, headsets, and hard drives and backup drives attached (all at the same time. They are designed to take up to 5v and if it goes over that, they simply... don't.
The point of the eGo PT is that the USB allows you to use it while it's plugged in and to charge it. I left my 510 PT's plugged in all the time. The only ones I don't plug into my computer are the 5V PT's. They get plugged into a wall adapter, but I don't unplug them when I'm not using them and it's never been a problem. The eGo is going to be a 3.4V device if used as a PT. It could be a 3.7V PT device, but I'm not sure so please don't quote me.
