yes the battery on a battery powered pass through limits the voltage. It also allows you to use a USB port that gives lower power output. a battery powered PT will usually work on a computer USB port where a straight passthrough gives you the voltage straight for the power source (minus "sag") and requires 2A to function adequately.

Thank you! That's what I've been trying to find out.

I ordered an eGo passthrough and it just came in the mail today. This thing works great! I've been using a 5-volt (V4L) passthrough for over a year - maybe even two years (I'm too lazy to look through all my old files). I was quite happy with it and used their CoolCarts on it - I believe I read somewhere they are rated at 3.2 ohms. This combo provided a "sweet spot" for me.

When I left the house, I'd take a Riva or eGo and recently began using them with dual coil cartos. This was even a sweeter spot.

Right now I am using the eGo passthrough with an eGo mega dual coil carto. If these cartos last for more than a couple weeks, I will buy more. Shoot, I might even try cleaning them since they are a little more expensive than regular dual coils.

I've also been wondering if this eGo passthrough/battery can die like any battery, and if it does, will I still be able to use it as a passthrough? So, if what JohnnyElsewhere said is really true, that is very good news! It's a nice feature that you can unplug it and use like a regular eGo, but I will most likely only use it as a passthrough.

With all the passthroughs, I've had over a 3 year period, they stop working after a while I think because the wires in the cable break. The cable with the mini USB plug seems to be made well, but if it breaks, it stands to reason I should just be able to replace it with another cable of this type. I think I'll try that right now.........

I grabbed the USB cable with a regular USB plug at one end and a mini USB plug on the other that I use for charging a Kensington Power Pack (pretty generic like the ones used for Blackberrys and such) and it worked! So this little eGo passthrough seems to be one of my better e-cig-related purchases. Now, if that button just behaves, I'll be really happy.

It's truly weird. My Bloog PT was acting funny after about two weeks. Sometimes it would just quit working from one vape to the next. When I thump it with my finger or tap it on a table it starts working again. I figured it was going out so I ordered a couple of PTs from Volt. Both of those started doing the same thing. And again, a thump of the finger or wrap on a table starts them up again every time.

Unbelievable! I just came here looking for a solution to two passthroughs that just stopped today. Lo and behold I see your post. I thumped both on the edge of the table and the began to work, at least for now. don't know how long this will last, but thanks.

Also thumped my batteries, and they came back to life too! anyone know why this might be happening?

Sorry - didn't see there were so many answers already

Having an inline battery
1 - allows walkaround
2 - lets you use a PC's USB because all it does it charge a battery while you are vaping it (but I still would not use a PC's USB)
3 - lets you have normal battery voltage

Ones with no inline battery are often 5v instead of 3.4-3.7v and definitely cannot be used on a PC USB or battery charger AC to USB. These need a 2amp output (2000mA) USB to AC (3amp if you are using extreme LR)

BTW - what were you running on your passthrough? Some people have killed Ego batteries with stuff under 1.7 ohms. Mass produced fat batteries are not really made for extreme power usage.
