Hello all. I usually use a provari with z-atty at home... The z-atty doesn't travel well for me and carto/tank just doesn't taste the same. So for out and about and at work, I purchased a REO Grand and Smoketech 2.0 atomizer, thinking it might taste the same. I have never been much for dripping, but read many posts from people about the flavor and how it tastes better to them than the carto tank solution.

what I am getting is like zero flavor but plenty of vapor..... So what am I doing wrong? Also, when running dry, I get that burnt filler taste.... How safe is that to vape since I get it often ... Haven't figured out when to squonk yet.

one last question,.. Should I press the bottle and suck at the same time... Or squeeze, release then suck....lol...sorry to be so graphic.

thanks all.... The quality of the build is fantastic...hoping to get the flavor I am looking for.

What flavor of juice? You are getting 8.82 watts when your 18650 is fully charged to 4.2v and your atty is 2 ohms ( have you measured them? ) Plenty of power for a good tasting vape. I find a 1.7/1.8 ohm atty is best for me on the REO Grand. I primarily use a 555 menthol, 24Mg, 80/20 pg/vg in my Grand. The Reo is the only type mod I use and I directly attribute them to keeping me off cigs.

The 2.0 atomizer should give a better flavor to sweet juice, so I am told. I like the 1.5 to 1.8 for mine.

Squonking is the key here. You described the blind squonk, squeeze while drawing without firing. You will get a little gurgle and a little resistance as the juice flows up and into the atty. It only takes a couple of seconds on a full bottle.

I had to up my flavor % in my juices to get what I wanted. I do 20% DIY. That gives me lots of flavor and great vapor.

Atomizers do vary. I like the Joye LR 510 and 306.

I am redbox classic from ECBlend 80/20 pg/vg @ 12mg. In the zatty it tastes fantastic. I think I am looking to recreate that flavor in an atomizer. Congrats on keeping off cigs.

Thanks for the reply...maybe I will try a lower resistance atomizer. I do have some 555 around... Will see how that does for me.

Welcome to the club Frazz. I think you have received some good tips. As for taste and throat hit (until I started on RBAs) I prefered a 1.5ohm atty and like "nerak" I also supplemented my on-board 6ml bottle with some "flavoring." I have no idea what you like but I like the RY4 "essence" from thevapingzone, ecigexpress and the double-RY4 flavoring from theflavorsapprentice.

Now that I use the "reomoizer" I try to build my wraps to achieve approx. 1.0ohms.

It's a funny thing because it's a 3.7 device (although a fresh charge is 4.2v?) but I prefer really low ohm attys.

It took me about a week for it all to come together somehow (I went from a Volt Kr808d to the REO.)

As for "squonking/feeding" I always "dry hit" (suck on the drip tip without hitting the fire button) to "feel" juice or if you are not in a noisy environment "hear" juice somwhere in the well or coming up the drip-tip. A big gurlge means it's overfed/over-squonked but just a hint of something means it's fine.

Of course, your vaping habits will come into play. With my style I sort of know I get 4 big hits before needing to "press/squonk" again.

Hope this helps but I think the main thing you might want to do (just for now anyway) is try some lower resistance attys and some flavoring. The percentage flavoring you use will depend on a bunch of things and of course some juices might taste "burnt" at lower resistances, etc.

Hang in there and keep us updated.

Thanks,

Norman

I second the 1.7 ohms - they're all I use on my minis, either atties or cartos. 1.7 works with all my juices from ry4 types to light fruity types and menthols. I don't even bother with any other resistances. For cartos, I like the shorties. My fav atty is a bauway 1.7 but I am having trouble getting them from my usual supplier. I may have to do some searching soon and add to my stock.

I am new to using a Reo and also atomizers, only 2 1/2 months into vaping, and a week on my Reo. I found my attys weren't giving great flavor either, I am using a using a Cisco LR 1.8 and an Aero 1.5 bridge less, both giving mute flavor...at first. I kept vaping them each for a dayish and then the flavor came alive. Seems like there was a slight break in period to those atty's. As for when I feed more juice, I wait till I get a slight muted flavor or am not hearing as much cracking and gurgling from the atty, unless I see juice in the well, I give a sharp draw without firing and that sucks the juice right up. seems to be working for me.

As far as pushing the bottle and sucking on the drip tip I have never used this method .I no many reo users use this method with great success. When I was a much younger vaper I would push the bottle until I could just see juice coming out of the air holes in the 510 connection . At that point I new my atty was juiced and ready to vape . After awhile I didn't have to even look I just pushed the bottle for a couple seconds and vaped . You will find it becomes second nature

When it comes to flavor, disposable atomizers don't even come close to what you get with an RBA. I think part of your problem may be that you are comparing the flavor you get from the Z-Atty to that from a disposable atomizer.

Since you seem to be comfortable with rebuildable attys I would strongly suggest getting an RBA for your Reo. Most can be built with silica, SS Mesh, or any of the popular natural fibers for wicks.

There are several available now, including Rob's Reomizer, the A7, the Hornet, ERA, and Chalice. They run the gamut in price, but when set up properly, either will perform much better than a disposable and give you an experience more akin to what you get with the Z-Atty.

Oh, BTW- Don't vape that burnt filler. Its probably not as bad a smoking was, but its not good for you either.

Is the reomizer the 38 dollar one on the site? What is the draw like on that? I am finding the Smoketech to be quite tight (compared to the z-atty). What is the best wick to use with it? Also, how east does the top cap remove on this? One of the main issues I have that makes the z-atty not so portable for me is that the top cap removes way too easy.

The top cap on the reomizer screws on. It has a pretty loose draw. Some people have expanded the hole to loosen the draw up a little more, and others have covered the hole partially to stiffen the draw. It is looser than all of the regular atomizers that I have tried so far. As for wick material and coil setup, that will be a personal choice. I was curious about trying bamboo yarn for a wick.

I am familiar with SS mesh on a genesis style atomizer..how would it work on an RBA With no tank?

It works :) I didn't like it, but it works. For the record, it turns out I just generally don't like SS wicks, including ones on genesis.

Essentially, you make a very short horizontal wick, and surround it with some filling to feed it juice. The filling does not seem to modify or mute the flavor, and does not burn since it doesn't touch the coil. Filling can be removed pretty easily if you want to dry burn to clean it.

Some people instead make a diagonal wick that reaches to the bottom of the RBA and gets juice that way.

Here's a thread with pictures. Like I said, I did not like the SS taste compared to cotton, so I stopped using this. But it wicked great, provided similar flavor to my DUD, and more vapor than the DUD.

For the record; I like cotton wicks.

For me, Rob's RBA has an "easy" draw, which is just right for me. I only have one REO but have 2 "reomizers" to always have one ready to go so I'm not "impatient" when doing a "re-build."

I'm sort of new to MODs and the RBAs. I got my REO and perfected my technique with the long $3.00 1.5ohm LR 510 attys that Rob sells at about the same time as the "reomizer" became available and it's a "night and day" difference. I'm glad I learned with the el-cheapos but now I have a whole bunch of them I never use because the "reomizer" (or maybe any bottom-fed RBA) blows them away.

I think the post by "hildicat" above makes a lot of sense. You are used to RBAs and that's probably why you are not getting the flavor or hit you are used to on the REO.

Thanks,

Norman

Well, thanks to all that replied. For now, I am trying a 1.5 Smoketech atty and the flavor is better (could still use improvement though). I also pulled the trigger and ordered the reomizer ... Hope it comes soon :).

Is anyone aware of a video on the rebuild of this atty using silica wick? I will try to be winding a coil of about 1.5 ohms... Does 6 wraps of 32 kanthal sound about right?
