Intro first, then the problem below!

The name's Peter, 23, and I've been vaping for a little over a year. I began smoking because it seemed like a natural choice when I was stressed, and since I work in theaters around town most of my fellow actors and technical crew happen to be moderate or heavy smokers. At my peak I was at a pack every three days, which I guess isn't too terrible. I originally started vaping because I liked the flavor, felt it was a little cleaner, and it kept my smoking of analogs down. In truth, I still smoke with my buddies occasionally, but it's a huge improvement over where I was at before vaping.

I began with disposables by Choice 7, nJoy, and V2. I then moved to V2 batteries and cartomizers before discovering the EVOD. In fact, I use the EVOD and EVOD 2 today with a generic battery and an eGo-C Twist. My favorite flavors usually taste similar to menthol, apple, or sweeter tobacco flavors (I usually mix caramel with "RY4").

I like to keep it simple and I like my setup, so I think it will be a while before I get into Advanced vaporizers.

On to the problem! Help!

I purchased a new JoyeTech eGo-C Twist today and I am impressed with it... when it works. None of my Kanger EVOD2 tanks work with it. The fellow at the store I bought my battery from used a paperclip to mess with the inside of my EVOD2's coil head and it worked for a short while, but now the battery isn't causing my coils to heat up in the slightest. It's been two hours since I purchased the battery and it is fully charged. This is very odd to me, and I'm very sad. Does anybody have any advice or ideas?

I should mention, I have one Mini Protank 2 and three EVOD2s, none of which are working consistently with the battery.

Welcome to ECF!

The connector center pin on the battery might be pushed down too far. It's possible you overtightened when you screwed the Evod on.

sounds like--
what ya went and did was TIGHTENED your toppers on way to tight

the results are you pushed BOTH contact points into their bodies

only tighten them till they touch ! (lightly)
(only the 'coil' in the base needs to be very tight)

to fix it you'll need to pull the "center pin" out just a smudge...

that bottom pin just needs to come out ever so slightly
(just your fingernail probably enuff)

your first time do it with the little coil only in your hand...

First of all, make sure you save the receipt for the battery. Any respectable store will replace a bad battery. If none of this works, TAKE IT BACK and make sure the one you get works before you leave the store. Even if you get it working by yourself you run the risk of it stopping again.

Forgive me if this is obvious, but be sure the coils are screwed into the tanks all the way. My evod coils always had a tendancy to unscrew themselves and stop working. And you've probably already tried screwing the tanks on harder, but try giving them a little slack - see if it fires with them not quite all the way screwed in.

These things can be finicky and come defective. If the guy at the store had to screw with the battery to make it work, it's probably the case that it didn't work in the first place. I'd highly recommend just returning it if they can't make it work consistently.

Probably the center pin. Watch the vid Susan posted up there. My Joyes did this all the time. I got to carrying a small screwdriver in my case.

(Forgive me, but I'm going to be improvising terms until I learn their proper names.)

The fellow in the store is a really nice, cool guy. I think I am lucky to have found him and his store because the staff really seem to know their stuff. A shop is just more difficult for me to troubleshoot issues because I'm a bit shy and it was very busy when I came in. Initially, he fiddled with the hole in the center pin with a paper clip and the whole assembly worked temporarily. I then tried the same tank on my old battery, at which point it stopped working altogether.

I followed the advice posted here, and by George, I've got it! I loosened the "pillar" on the battery as well as the "center pin" on the coil. I'm dumbfounded. I have used up at least 40 coils and never had this issue. But I guess there's a first time for everything!

The most unfortunate bit is, and correct me if this seems implausible, that I may have burned two of my coils because if the battery "pillar" and "center pin" were making hard contact with each other, they wouldn't give me vapor, but the coils would still be heating up, right?

Anyway, to summarize. All you lovely folks helped me. I will be a more confident shopper and yes, if this battery gives me issues other than these simple fixes I will return it. The air flows freely, I get a decent cloud, and I can rest easy knowing that I now have all the help I could possibly want here on this forum!

Is it not recommended you completely remove the "center pin" from the coil? Because I immediately thought that perhaps a good way to avoid this issue would be to find and install an extra, tiny washer to the center pin, keeping it from moving deeper into the coil. Might this work?

IMO all you will accomplish by doing this (if you could do this) is to push the pin in the battery in deeper. The best way to solve this is to learn how tight to screw on the coil to the battery so no pins move permanently. This way you will have success with any coil you put on any battery.

it's just like Ryedan said,

the fix is already there -- just DON'T tighten it so much... !

just get a thumbnail between center pin and silicone insulator - good to go...
