The PT will make a great back up.I can't stress enough about over tightening. I went through 3 vv V3's (same connector) because of it. "Snug" may be too tight depending on your definition of snug. I just tighten until I feel resistance then screw the beauty ring up tight.
Does this actually damage the apv? Based on what you say, I think I might have gone too tight. Ive backed it off now and it works fine, so hopefully no harm done. I had the beauty ring screwed all the way down and just snugged it up against that :/
Thanks for letting me know![]()
Hello all! New to the forums and to ecigs in general. I started the whole ecig gig with Blu ecigs, but reverted back to analogs because the Blus dont last. I prefer vaping to cigarettes already (taste-wise), so I decided to aim for a serious device..
Did some research and hopefully ill be happy with my choices:
Innokin MVP 2 brushed black (w/ iclear 30 clearomizer included)
4 extra heads for iclear 30 (for until I learn to rebuild)
Kanger Protank 2 w/ 4 extra heads
Kanger airflow control valve
24mg eliquid 30ml (1)
18mg eliquid 30ml (1)
12mg eliquid 30ml (1)
I plan to use 24mg eliquid in the iclear 30 (for staving off the analogs) and 18mg in the Protank (for chain vaping), and adjust as necessary by mixing. I also figure it will be good to compare a top coil vs bottom coil setup. Does this sound good or should I consider something else? The only thing that sucks about all this is the 5-7 days im going to have to wait for it all to arrive
Gonna have to order a bunch of liquids online or maybe hit up a head shop in town to try some different flavors. Im not too picky with cigarettes so it shouldnt be too hard to find flavors I like.
Anyways, looking forward to being around. Any comments/suggestions welcome..
All About Vapor in Round Rock is where I went todaySounds like a good start. I would suggest since you're just getting going that you try some local shops since you can sample liquids before buying. Try some things out to see if you like them. Ordering online when you haven't "got your feet wet" can be shooting in the dark. You may think "that sounds good" only to find out you don't like the juice and they're not returnable.
Since you're in Austin, I can give specific recommendations. One good place to try out is All About Vapor. Good shop. Often quite busy though. At least the Round Rock location when I've been there.
They recently opened a second shop on Airport. I haven't been by there myself. I'm out east, past Manor and used to have to go into the city to get to an actual shop but, recently, we've had them popping up all over the place so I don't have to drive an hour to get to a shop anymore.
Anyway, they were founded by vapers and have some 200+ flavors available. Tons to try out.
Austin has quite a few shops these days. Here's a Google map of several: Austin vape shops
And if you're more out east like I am, Elgin, Bastrop, and Smithville have shops now (Bastrop has three and even little Elgin has two... they're like weeds these days).
But definitely check out the local shops. Being able to sample when you're just getting started is really helpful. I wasted a fair chunk of money ordering "blind" online. It's funny, often what you think you'll like, you don't. And the ones you end up liking, you wouldn't have thought.
Also, believe it or not, 24mg or 18mg may actually turn out to be too high on the nicotine. I was a heavy smoker and thought I needed nic around those levels only to find out it kept me wide awake at night (not bad insomnia awake just... wide awake). I had to drop back on nic level. Way back it turns out. I use between 6 and 12 with about 9 being my "mainstay".
Welcome aboard and vape on!![]()
All About Vapor in Round Rock is where I went todayI have to say I dont like their test vaping devices, but the selection and customer service was great. I found a liquid I liked there and purchased a 30ml bottle.
Yeah, I think you might be right on the strength. I smoked 1 to 1.5 packs a day and 18 is more than strong enough for me. I think im going to step down to 12 and try that, because I cant really chief on the MVP for long before I get that "I need to stop before I get nic-sick feeling". However, 18mg is great in the sense that I have no desire for cigs at all. Fortunately today I picked up 18mg and 12mg, so that should be perfect for me.
I think ill prolly end up around 9mg myself once my body gets accustomed to the MVP.
Am I right in assuming what dose you vape is also heavily influenced by the device? For instance, id prolly need 24 using the devices they had in the store. The MVP/protank setup seems to vape much much better, and so inevitably I prolly absorb more nicotine per puff, and thus would require a lower dose liquid. Sound about right? Still new to all of this, so reading what I can and experimenting. The advice on this thread has been very helpful, so thanks to all![]()
Great info here- thanksI kinda didn't care for the way they do sampling myself but they're a good shop. And as you say, good customer service and, yeah, and almost bewildering array of flavors. Lotsa stuff to try.
I can't say for sure whether I think the device makes that much difference on the nic level choice. I used an eGo style kit for most of the time since I ran from Bleah... erm, Blu then, fairly recently, moved up to an Innokin VTR and dual coil iClear 30s tanks but haven't changed my nic level in ages. At least not by much if any.
I suspect it has more to do with getting used to the different inhale. In smoking, the nic is absorbed in the lungs, carried by the smoke. Which is a quick absorption. In vaping, the absorption is primarily in the mouth and nasal passages. I haven't done a "lung inhale" since back when I first got started a little over a year ago. I do more like a pipe or cigar thing. Mouth inhale with sometimes a nasal exhale. More... oh... "puffing"? Sort of? Either way, I don't do the deep inhale like when I smoked.
There is an adjustment period because the nic is absorbed more slowly and in a different way and I suspect (though can't say with certainty... not like I did a research thing) that it's your habits shuffle and shift around to adapt to this new thing and you pick up more nic as you get used to vaping instead of smoking.
When I dumped Blu with their pre-filled cartridges and went to an eGo with Vision toppers I could refill, I bought higher nic (12 to 24) because it seemed to fit since I'd been a heavy smoker. And, at first, that seemed to work. And I did actually stop smoking entirely then (I'd slowed way down with Blu but still had a few cigs each day). Then it went wonky on me and I'd be wide awake until three in the morning.
My guess is that as I adjusted to the vapor, I "figured out" how to maximize the nic without being aware of it. For me, it wasn't a "sick" feeling of any kind, just a... well... almost coffee "buzz" kind of thing. I didn't feel bad, I was just wide awake for hours.
You have to play it by ear. Everybody's different and what works for one doesn't for another. Being around here a while now, I've talked to folks who had almost exactly my same old smoking habit who went in completely opposite directions from myself. I cut down to 12 then 9 and even 6 for evening vapes while one guy I talked to went to 36. Thirty freaking six mg! My eyes bugged out.But it worked for him.
By the way, keep in mind you can cut the nic of a juice by buying a 0 nic version of the exact same flavor (and PG/VG ratio) and mixing. So if you find a juice you like is giving you a "buzz" or making you headachy or even nauseous, you can save it by diluting.
(Heh, I'm on a tight budget. I've kinda become the king of the cheap vape and just can't ever bring myself to throw out a juice.)
