A big hello to everyone ( my first ever Post)
I have been getting mynsupplies at a local smoke shop, not a vape shop, so I'm not learning about th as is new hobby as fast or as detailed as I'd like. So I've decided joining on here would be a first good start to get on the right track.

I currently have what I think is a mech mod, that goes by the name Anubis. It's the type you have to keep dripping juice in since it lacks a tank. I've built two coils, which it supports with no issue except I do not have an ohm meter or volt meter, and use nail clippers to cut the wire.

While I am somewhat happy with the current build, I'm sure I can do better if only I had more know how and what sort of tools and flavors I should try out. I've also tried finding some websites to be my go to place, but the internet is full of them, and it's only added to my confusion. Even the batteries seems endless along with trying not to blow my face off. Currently I switch out between IRC18650-20H M SAMSUNG SDIEM TEV2 AND BRC 16850 6000mAh 3.7v.

I've only tried peach and tobacco flavers and an apple flavor which fast like medicine

I would be my extremely thankful if anyone four provide as much information as possible, and perhaps point me to a goods online store(s)

Thank for taking the time to readg this, and in advance for you replies?

Hello and welcome to the forum @Armyguy81. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are going to build you must have an ohm reader to check your builds. It's the only way to know if you have a short.

The batteries you are using are the wrong chemistry for vaping with. They are better suited for flashlights and other low drain tools.

You are going to want a safe-chemistry, high-drain battery with a high CDR. How high? I'll quote @tj99959 as this is the practice I follow with regards to amps & headroom.

When considering how low you can build you need to give yourself some headroom. I try to never exceed 50% of the CDR (continuous discharge rating) of a fully charged battery (4.2v). So with a 30A battery, that would be 15A. This Ohm's Law Calculator tells me that a .28 ohm build is as low as I would want to use.

The reason that I place a 50% limit is because as a battery ages the mAh of the battery degrades, as the mAh degrades so does the batteries c rating (amp limit). So down the road, a 30A battery may only be a 15A battery.

I highly recommend you spend some time with @Baditude & @Mooch (two of our resident battery/safety experts) and visit their blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Here are links to some of Mooch's blogs:
* No matter what is printed on the battery wrapper: There are no 18650 batteries with a genuine rating over 30A!

Baditude's Blog - Table of Contents: The blogs that address battery safety, Ohm's Law, CDR (continuous discharge rating/Amps) and how they all work together are detailed below:

BATTERIES

Battery Basics for Mods - The Ultimate Battery Guide
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

Ohm's Law Explained for Vapers
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the USA.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

    Vaporbeast has good deals. I usually check vapingcheap.com they advertise good sellers. Fasttech is great for price but based on China so shipping times rake about 2 to 4 weeks depending. You should definitely get an ohm meter so you know what you're building. I buy a lot if gear off of ebay too. Even though it's technically prohibited to sell vaping gear, they still honor their doa and return policy for whatever is sold regardless so you're still protected by their buyer protection which is good. But I've only has positive experiences. And stuff like cotton, kanthal, tips and other stuff are cheaper than most sites because the shipping is usually free. I just got 100' of 24g kanthal for 3.50 shipped the other day.

    First of all, welcome and may I say "Tous Pour Un, Un Pour Tous". Not sure your MOS (Not really asking), but I was a 19D Cavalry Scout.
    Second, you really should not be using those coils you've built without a way to measure ohms, weather it be an ohm meter or multimeter, you do need one. Knowing what your build is, plays a huge factor in being safe or not which you seem to care about. Nail clippers are fine, wire clippers are easier, but when I started out I used nail clippers too. That being said, please go buy some better batteries. Susan provided you with some links that you should read up on as long as recommend vendors we use.

    I'd say Sony VTC4, on RTD Vapor you can get a 4 pack for I believe $29. I can't even find the Samsung batteries you listed on google and the BRC ones come back as ultrafire which that brand is usually a no-go for vapers. Not sure where you're stationed (again not really asking) but I'd say try to find a legit vape shop if you're in the states and try a ton of flavors to see if you can find something you like. Finding flavors is hard, at least for me it was. Are you interested in sticking to tobacco flavors? Specific flavors or juices are hard to recommend since what I like, you may hate. It's better to be able to sample them in person.

    Ask as many questions as you need, we all started from the beginning and it's a lot of information to take in when you move on to the setup you're using. You were also asking about tools, there is a kit Coil Master DIY Kit - Coil Master that has pretty much everything you could need. While the tools may be a little sub par from what you can buy separately it comes with everything you need for rebuilding basic coils.

    The only ICR18650 from Samsung I found is a 6A rated battery. And it's an "ICR" battery which is less forgiving than other types if abused. It can overheat and vent or burst easier than others.

    I think that 6000mAh battery, a ridiculous overrating, is an UltraFire SJ18650...a company with a terrible reputation for low quality batteries. Its voltage completely collapsed at only 7A in tests by lygte-info.dk.

    For your safety, I strongly recommend replacing them with something like the Sony VTC4.

    Thanks a lot for this valuable information. I'll be picking up the supplies you recommended.

    I get my Vape oil from atmosrx.com, the only flavor I liked from them is the peach. The rest are just horrible. What do prefer, and where do you shop for it?

    Thanks again for the warm welcome and valuable information. I came to the right place
