Well hello there everyone. So I recently got into vapping a couple weeks back to try and quit smoking. Well it has been a success so far as I am 2 weeks removed from cigarette smoking. I tried disposables awhile back and liked them fairly well but didn't stick with them. So this time around I wanted to go the refillable route and ran out and bought a cheap starter kit from my local shop. I got the Vaporx xps or whatever, I like the throat hit I get from it, but it produces absolutely no flavor especially now that its been used and refilled a few times. I tried looking for away to take the tank apart to clean it but I don't think you can. After doing some research on the different vaporizers and kits I decided to buy yet another starter kit, but this time I looked at reviews and decided to go with the kanger evod. From what I understand with this being a bottom coil I should get more flavor out of this unit, but I might be sacrificing throat hit? is this correct? Also what do yall think of the mini pro tank 3? or what other smaller sized tanks would yall recommend?

The evod and the mini pro-tank should be very similar. They function essentially the same way.

Many people like the aspire tank. You could also try a top coil atomizer/tank, like maybe the vivi nova or something similar. Since the coil is closer to your mouth top coil tanks tend to be warmer with more throat hit (maybe). Personally, I don't like top coils, but many people do.

I am a newbie myself and have only been vaping for about a week now. I bought the evod 2 starter kit and also a mini protank 3 (I wanted a glass tank).
I don't know how much of a throat hit you get from other tanks, but I like the throat hit I get from this one. Also I believe that if you up the PG content of your juice you get a better throat hit (please correct me if I'm wrong). I have been using 70/30 PG/VG e-juice.

For tanks (which are good for beginners, but I'm more of an RDA typa guy), I prefer the bottom coil. The EVODs tend to leak both through the center tube and also the plastic window of the tank. It's worth the money to grab a protank. Depending on your preference of single and dual coils, I would suggest either an Aerotank (it has an air control valve), which I would pick up online (I got mine for $15 instead of the $40 that shops charge) or a protank mini 3. Both are dual coil tanks, but you can run a single in them if you take the rubber grommet off of the coil and turn it upside down, otherwise it will leak.

Thank you for the quick response, I was only thinking the mini pro tank because its a dual coil which I hear produces more flavor and vapor. Also I hear you don't get much flavor out of top coils vs bottom coils. Which I currently have a top coil and I get no flavor out of it. I got 3 different flavors that all taste relatively the same lol, but that's most likely because I have a cheap vap right now. But thanks for the suggestions, I guess I should try a few different ones to see which I prefer the best.

Here is a link to the Smok Tech Pyrex Aro tank. I got these to use with my egos and like them very much. They are inexpensive, and I have found them to be hassle free. They haven't leaked or gurgled, and the coils are easy and cheap to replace. I get extremely good vapor and flavor with them. I got them for my egos, and now I use them with my MVP, too. I don't know why they aren't talked about more on this forum, as I've found them to be excellent tanks. They get 5 star reviews from users:

Top or bottom coil, the difference in distance is like 1/2 inch or even less so my opinion on flavor loss isn't in distance but rather in wick'ing, power level and coil resistance used. Also the condition of the coil can reduce flavor. I find brand new coils to produce better flavor than a coil all gunk'ed up with caramelized juice.

Now the difference in top/bottom is that bottom coils are immersed in the juice whereas top usually is not, depending OFC on the level so if the top coil gets a little dry it too will reduce the flavor.

But in all, it is silica wick and it is the last type of wick to use for flavor.....IMHO

I would go for a glass version. Plastic reacts with some liquids and can crack or effect the flavor. Here are some suggestions:

Mini Protank 2 - uses a single, bottom coil. Easy to maintain and clean the coils
Mini Protank 3 - uses dual coils. Can provide more flavor and vapor, but goes through juice faster and it's harder to clean the coils
Mini Aerotank - uses dual coils. Has airflow control.
Evod 2 - This is the new glass version of the Evod. Uses dual coils.
Aspire ET-S - Dual coils. Be careful that it mentions that it is glass. They do sell plastic versions.

I'd get one dual coil and one single coil, to determine which you prefer. Contrary to what most like, I wound up liking the single coil versions better. I never found the additional flavor and vapor to be worth the amount of juice a dual coil goes through, plus the added difficulty in cleaning and dry burning the coils. This is a matter of preferrence of course. Also, flavor can be affected over time due to your own taste buds changing as they heal from smoking. There may be a time where you can't taste anything called vapors tongue. Flavor does come back eventually, but to speed it up a lot of people try to take a hit of a really string flavor, like a mint, menthol, or hot cinnamon.
