I'm a longtime (28 years) smoker and I've finally decided to kick the cigs. Ive never valued before, so this is all new to me. I've lurked a bit (ok, a lot) on ECF and you all have been a wealth of knowledge. So after that and having spent waaaay too much time looking at reviews and whatnot online, I ordered the Triton and it came in today.

One adjustment I learned I have to make right away is inhaling -- I mouth inhale cigs before taking smoke into my lungs, and I'm doing the same with the Triton but inhaling vapor is definitely different...and harder. I know I don't need to inhale the vapor at all and that I'll get more nicotine through my mouth and nose, but dragging that stuff into my lungs is second nature. Maybe I need to consciously do it more shallowly?

I decided to start with the tobacco sampler pack of Halo juice, for a somewhat similar flavor profile to the cigs. First up is the Torque -- not bad! I like the aftertaste in my nose (can you have an aftertaste in your nose? maybe more of an aftersmell?). I'm going to try the Prime next.

I have plenty or a Halo juices to try (and I plan to get to many of them!) but I've also heard good things about Johnson Creek, especially their Red Oak. Anybody use it in the Triton? I understand it's all VG-based, and as a newbie I guess I don't know if that will lead to any issues with my tanks, the coils, etc. Looking for wisdom from the crowd here, not only about Johnson Creek but about everything else (vaping-related, anyway...).

Thanks!

Welcome to Halo ferndale! Congrats on quitting the stinkies. I smoked for 20-25 yrs (quit several times...ok, a bunch of times) but could never quit long term until I found out about vaping. Yeah, inhaling is different with vaping. Just remember to take long slow inhales. After a short while it'll become second nature to you. Torque is an excellent choice, especially when first starting out. It really has that authentic cigarette taste. Wish I had started with that one. Johnson Creek is a good ejuice, but not very compatible with the Mighty Triton because it's VG. Halo juices have a lot more PG and so they wick up better. Now get yourself a banner that will keep a running tab of your progress day by day! Hey, we're rootin' for ya!!!!!;)

Thanks, Diva! I'll get my banner up on the day I have my last cig. I'm giving myself a little time to wean myself off them -- by no later than New Year's. If I smoke my last one before then, though, so much the better! I haven't sat and vaped the whole evening away, just a bit here and there, and I've had virtually no craving for an analogue. So maybe I'll have smoked that last one sooner than I had thought. I'm trying to take this whole thing slow and easy...it's been many years since I tried to quit, and I'm committed to making it work this time!

ferndale, Welcome!!

Triton is a great choice! Torque is one of my favorites, as is Malibu with a little Belgian Cocoa added in. Torque vapes very clean; you can go many refills on one coil.

Did anyone tell you the secret discount code for Halo Juice any day? ECFTEN2014

And relax. Some people leave half a pack unsmoked, just cause they find they don't need nor want them. What a great feeling.

One tip to prolong the life of your coils. When you are taking a hit, continue to draw AFTER you let go of the button for a second. This cools the coil. (Thanks, Evie Luv!!)

And guess what?

You are now a HALON!!!! (©2013 wheezal)

Thanks for the welcome and the drawing after releasing the button tip, DaveOno! And I have to say I've been called many things in my life, but never a HALON. I'll take it. Appreciate the discount code -- I'll be making a largeish juice order before too long (and will be adding a couple of tanks and a pack or two of coils) so the discount will come in handy soon.

Boy does that sound familar. I was there last year, I couldn't put down those last few analogs and I shot for New Year's being I'd be able to say I haven't "smoked" all year. The Triton is a great device but my favorite juice by far was Tribeca. OMG when I tried that I was in love!!! I smoked for nearly 30 years. Like Dave had to always scold me, it's not a cigarette put it down between vapes. Take a couple of vapes and put it down and let it cool off. Remember smoking nicotine goes to your system in seconds but it will take a couple of minutes for the nicotine to "hit" when your vaping. Vaping is different but it will soon become second nature. Just wait until your sense of smell returns.;)

Oh and Welcome to Halo Ferndale.

+1 to everything Evie said!! I bought my Triton Kit and Tobacco Sampler so that I could "supplement" my analog smoking since I can't smoke at work! I thought that I'd vape at work and continue smoking elsewhere and in the evenings etc. Within a VERY short period of time, I found that the analogs tasted like....well.....y'know....something one DOES NOT WANT anywhere NEAR one's mouth!!!

Moral: I quit smoking ON ACCIDENT using my Triton and the MIGHTY Tribeca....interestingly, the first of the sample pack that I tried! It'll happen for you. Just have to learn to take longer slower "hits" and like Dave and Evie say...put it down after a few vapes and allow the nicotine to reach the brain....take a few minutes vs the 7 (?) seconds that smoking a cigarette does.

Best of luck and Vape On! :D

hey evie, how are you doing? you reminded me of a joke.

an old lady visits her doctor, her doctor asks how can i help you.
the old lady says, embarrassed, I have terrible flatulence, you wouldn't
have noticed because they are silent and don't smell, but I have
farted 10 times since I sat down in your chair.

I see, says the doctor, and gives her some pills, take one of these a day,
and come see me next week.

So the old lady comes back next week and the doctor asks how she went.
well, says the old lady, I don't know what pills you gave me, but they
didn't stop me farting, they just made them stink.

great says the doctor, now we've fixed your sinuses, let's work on your hearing.

Bahahahahaha.......very funny Chesty!:shock::lol::lol::lol:

I'm doing alright, I had to go back on my heart meds since Mother passed and I'm exhausted from moving all her things out of her apartment. We still like glassware, photo albums, her deep freeze and a few other things. Then we have to start on what she owned in Pawpaws house. Still alot of work ahead but I'm getting through it.

How have you been Chesty?

 CONGRATULATIONS ferndale!!!

Like you, I was lurking all around ECF for a while and then decided to dive right in. :D After quite a bit of reading I felt the best fit for me is the Halo G6 and I just love it!

The folks here are absolutely wonderful, and are always there to lend their support and seasoned wisdom.

Congrats to you again ferndale, and a hardy welcome to Halo and ECF!! =^.^=

@ chesty -- I'm still snickering

@ Evie -- do take care, and very sorry to learn of your mother's passing

you'll be happy to hear I have been fantastic, thanks for asking. I'm sorry for your loss, and your broken heart.
give me a big hug.

Ok, so maybe it's because I'm still getting over a cold (almost there, but not quite) or maybe it's the quantity of vapor the a Triton produces, or maybe it's the fact that (as someone else wrote) vapor is denser and larger than cigarette smoke, or maybe it's something else altogether -- but I can't inhale even the smallest amount of vapor without coughing. Not inhaling and vaping cigar-style is sort of fulfilling, but as a longtime analogue smoker the inhale is important to me. I doubt it has anything to do with PG (though what do I know, I'm brand new at this!). I'm a mouth inhaler, but even a small/shallow draw into my lungs sets me into coughing.

I'm going to give myself a few days for the cold to completely clear up, but I'm wondering if I should consider other options. I've had several analogues today which I always expected as this will be a transition over (I hope!) a short period of time, not an immediate flip of the switch. Should I try the G6 cartos -- do they produce less or a less dense vapor? A lower nicotine content (I'm vaping 18mg right now)? Higher resistance coils (I have the standard ones that come with the Triton starter kit)? What else should I be thinking about here?

Looking for the wisdom of the crowd...thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Hey fern! Sounds like to me that you're lung hitting. Try just inhaling the vapor into your mouth and holding it there, and then exhale. My hubby can't lung inhale w/o coughing either. When you're over your cold, you could work on mouth to lung, (how I vape) by inhaling into your mouth and knocking it back into your lungs with a quick second inhalation, which is how most people smoked. Just don't get discouraged. It takes a little practice, but you'll get there, don't worry. Also, your nic might be too high. Now that I'm down to 0-3mgs of nic, I cough immediately if I try to vape 18mgs. Hope this helps a little. :)

Heya fern! :)

Definitely give it all a bit of time to find your groove with vaping and don't give up! I'm too new myself to offer up any real advice, other than you are in the right place for help and support.

Get better soon fern, and hit these folks up with any questions that come to mind ...they'll help you find that place that works best for you in no time!! =^.^=

Hey, fern,
Some juices feel harsher than others. You had said you tried Torque. I found Prime to be a bit milder, Tribeca milder yet.

And try a softer pull. Not nearly as hard as sipping drink in a straw. Almost letting the vapor come in.

Also a freshly charged battery will hit a lot harder than one that is half discharged. So vape hot fresh batteries softer.
