Hey all, so I'm new to vaping. My background - I've tried smoking once and I liked it, but the facts about cigarettes put me off and despite wanting my second one I just didn't.

I'm thinking of buying a cheap starter ecig soon, but I want to know:

If I buy 0mg nicotine cartridges with my kit, IS there any harmful side effects?

I may want to try low nicotine too, and I realise what nicotine does to the body.
Also, if I am using 0mg cartridges can I not just refill it with vegetable glycerine, a drop or two of water + a flavouring rather than buying prefilled cartridges?

thanks,

If you aren't a smoker, stay away from Ecigs! You don't want to start a habit you don't already have. Nicotine addiction is something you don't want and Ecigs, while safer than tobacco cigs, are not something you want to start just to vape 0 nicotine.

Really! Don't do it. Those of us who are here are vaping Ecigs to stay off tobacco cigs. Our goal is to eventually wean ourselves to the 0 level and quit.

There are definitely cheaper hobbies that have more pleasure and enjoyment to gain than vaping. Most people are here because they were killing themselves with tobacco and have found a harm reduction alternative. I knew I was slowly dying from smoking and I could feel the effects on my body. I am grateful that am no longer sick and my body is healing.

If you use nicotine, you will likely become addicted. I consider that a harmful side effect, lol. I'm not sure why any informed person would choose that for themselves. I am certain that vaping is safer than inhaling the smoke of burning tobacco. I am not certain that vaping would be as safe as not vaping for a person who does not smoke. No one is going to be able to tell you that for sure.

My friendly advice? Find another hobby :)

yeah but the point is, if I dont vape theres a high chance i'll just start smoking analogs..

There is also a chance that you will become addicted to the "act" of vaping, even at 0 nicotine. If, e-cigs are ever banned, or you run out of supplies, or some other unforeseen circumstance, you might turn to analogs. There are no 0 nic analogs.

If you are not currently a smoker, not addicted to nicotine, or to the act of smoking, then you have an easy choice to make right now. It's easy not to smoke if you are a non smoker. Don't start!

I think you would be playing with fire if you started vaping. Pun partially intended.

Seriously, not smoking and not vaping (except to quit analogs) is a good thing. Inhaling any external substance into your lungs reduces the efficiency of oxygenation. To answer your question, vaping hasn't been proven to be detrimental to the lungs or the body, although PG and VG put some load on the kidneys. The answer is "We don't know and neither does anyone else". At this point, you are a non-smoker and you have nothing to gain from vaping and everything to lose. Are you willing to start a virtually unproven activity only to find out in 10 years that there is a health effect no one knew about? I'm not saying that I think there might be, but you have no extensive research available on the long term effects of vaping. Who knows? We don't, yet.

Your best bet is to be a non-smoker. Anyone here will tell you that. Advance at you own risk. Most of us will eventually stop vaping. Some will continue but it IS an addictive activity that you will crave if you try to quit cold turkey.

I absolutely MUST echo the sentiments of everyone here. If you just can't stay away from smoking, then vape. If you can, then do neither. Vaping is not something that has been properly researched; however, all indications are that it is very probably FAR less harmful than smoking. However, there are still harmful effects. Even supposedly 0-nicotine fluid can sometimes contain trace amounts of nicotine. And once you've had nicotine, you will forever be hopelessly addicted. And it is easier to quit hard drugs than to quit nicotine.

And again - if PVs/ecigs are banned, then you'll switch to analogs (traditional cigarettes), get cancer, and die a very horrible, painful, ugly, early death, and quite likely stink like hell while doing so. So just don't even start at all.

Once more: if you absolutely MUST, then vape. If not, do neither.

wow, ok. I didnt think vaping was that bad, evidently so. I guess Ill try to stick to a complete non-smoker then but I dont want to cave in and "just try" my next analog when im out.. my idea was to vape 0 nicotine to satisfy that by just doing a smoking-like action.

if you guys seem to think thats a terrible idea (which I think you do), I guess I won't start vaping.

I think the appeal is the taste + partially the vapor/smoke, not sure why.

and Shanni, I understand the psychological aspect, I infact bite my nails but can easily go for weeks and regrow nails.. Even if I did get this link that I enjoyed putting something in my mouth, why is that such a bad thing? If its zero nicotine its just glycol/glycerine.. and I think I would have the willpower to a) keep on 0mg nicotine and b) just stop if e-cigs were banned.

I smoked for 24 years,i've tried to quit and knew i was going to die a smoker.I knew that. I found the E-Cigs and because of that i've NOT smoked 15,000 cigs. From my perspective i have little to lose from using one of these, i could be dead already due to smoking. You don't need permission from anyone to smoke or use an E-Cig but as others have said if you don't already then please don't.Sorry for the heavy post but it is what it is.

If you vape, do stick to zero nic, please. If you never become an addict (slave, really) to nicotine, you'll be glad.

Personally, i think i would just carry around a handful of lollipops or something, if it's just a physical urge to do the motion and the oral thing.
