New to the scene...smoked 1 PAD (Newport’s) for 18 years..I'm 32 and quit 4 days ago when the ball dropped. I've tried to quit multiple times before but obviously never had success...I love to smoke, I love the throat kick, I love the driving a car smoke, the after food smoke, sex smoke, stress smoke...well you know..love to smoke.

So about a month ago I made the decision to quit for my 3 year old daughter and for my wife. My wife was a social smoker back in our teens and early 20’s but she could quit with no issues, I on the other hand was a true smoker. Over the past 5 years my wife has been progressively getting more and more frustrated with me smoking, particularly with the amount of money I spent on them. Smoking was also causing friction between us because she did not want to be around me because I smelled. Any sane person wouldn’t smoke if it was causing friction in a marriage but that’s how powerful smoking is.

2 months ago I changed my diet and lost 12 pounds so the next logical step towards health was to quit.I want to be around for my family later in life and at the rate I was going I would be dead early so it had to be done. That thought of my daughter not having me in her life clicked in my head one day and that was it for me. About a month ago I grabbed the starter kit for the Blu e-cig at my local Walgreens. At first I thought it was cool but after the first 20 puffs from the cartridges it began to taste like holy hell. So In a day I would smoke a pack of cartridges..so financially that was more expensive, so I kept smoking analogs. I figured a good day to quit would be New Years, so at the drop of the ball I officially had my last cigarette (I actually talked to it like I was saying goodbye to a friend).

In the past when quitting I would always end up cheating on myself when my wife was not around. I would actually torture myself because while at work I would sneak smokes but then when home I couldn’t smoke with my wife around. So I would figure out ways to get away like, “Oh we need gas for the cars”, or some other random errand. Then like a crack-head puff down a smoke, change my shirt, wash my hands, chew gum hoping to mask the smell before I got home. I felt like a piece of .... behaving like this but my addiction was so strong I just automatically did this crazy charade..I’m sure I’m not alone on this one.

Knowing that I would more than likely do this “cheating behavior” once again I knew I needed to find an alternative. After spending day 1 of my quit with my wife I knew that on day 2 when I went to work I would cheat. So after some research online I figured out that juice is the way to go. Luckily I have a local shop (props to Vaporphoxxe-Hatboro PA) that provides this option. So on day 2 I went there and was blown away (overwhelmed) by this culture I had never heard about. Right off the bat I could tell this establishment was knowledgeable and extremely proud of customer service. I told them my situation and they didn’t snicker at the noob but rather made things simple and even let me sample some of the juice flavors at their “bar-style” store. I sampled all different types of flavors eventually settling on a Peppermint Cream. They sold me a Tornado Tank gave me 10 ml of 18mg on the house for getting a kit and sent me on my way.

Let me just say I am beside myself about how awesome vaping is! I have absolutely no interest in an analog cigarette, in fact, after the smooth peppermint taste and the zero odor of my PV, analogs actually seem repulsive. I can go about my day as though I’m still enjoying the habit I loved for so many years but without any of the negatives…no smelly car-clothes-breath, no feeling ostracized to go outside to get a fix, no more angry wife, more money in my pocket (I’ve never kept 8 dollars in my pocket for 3 days straight) and most important no more killing myself. I was shocked at how the vapor hits my throat just like my Newports did, that was the key for me!

I have a feeling juice is the way to go so if your considering making the switch off of the analogs I would suggest you research and find a good setup. DO NOT just grab the local drugstore mainstream e-cig kit. Using a nice system is definitely a whole other ballgame. Some will say I’m just losing one for the other, which is true…however, most true smokers would not be able to quit without this…and quitting smoking is the goal for me and it worked! Yes I’m only 4 days into my quit and I do have nicotine in my juice but the fact is I would have already cheated with analogs and isn’t the point of all this for me to stop killing myself!?!

Except for the fact the I am older and female - your story is so similar to mine.
I can totally relate to this and for the first time my brain is not always looking for a way to cheat! A great feeling of freedom.

Thanks Heavyrocker...I did try one that was similar to Newports called tangled tobacco which was amazingly similar to the newport..I'll def check out the honey...I'm new to all these flavors but I'm amazed at how yummy they are. It also affirms how ....ty analogs taste in reality. I thought the exotic flavors would be weird but they are suprisingly delicious! The peppermint I got is money and it does remind me of that newport menthol kick in my throat..which I love.

altesse, seriously man I was a hardcore smoker so I'm shocked with vaping, particularly shocked as to how similar it feels to regular smokes. The BEST part is I can vape whenever and wherever I want (within reason). I always smoked outside so being able to watch a movie on my couch and "smoke" is tops! Seriously man, get through the first few days with the EGO and you'll be hooked (no pun intended). Plus its a new toy/hobbie...

You wrote exactly how I feel. I stopped smoking Christmas Eve. I still have two packs sitting around the house and one in the car. I think my Camels are repulsive too! I never even think about lighting up. Don't know why I haven't thrown them out.

I enjoy vaping and I felt a little naughty doing it at the hospital while my SO was getting his CT Scan yesterday. So there is a little neener neener factor going on.

I really want to lower the nicotine and eventually be done with smoking/vaping all together. Here's hoping!!

Good luck to you on this journey!

I really wanted to write my story to be real..it feels good to actually write it down and share...I just know many people share the same situation and because I actually think I figured out how to beat this disease I hope my story helps others realize they can beat it too...all you guys who have been doing this for years I'm sure remember your first time....it truly is an epiphany!

Congrats, man! I think vaping is perhaps the only alternative to smoking that will work for me. I've been vaping for about 9 months now using just Tececig batts and dripping into cartridges (not knowing there was anything else) and began to feel unsatisfied with it.

I just recently found ECF and opened a door to a whole world of vaping. I'm awaiting my Ego dual coil cart. tank kit from Madvapes, and DIY liquid supplies with great anticipation. Now, if I can get the wifey on-board... Our local tobacco store has a very limited supply of vaping products. She used them (tececigs) for a while and did pretty good but stress and the vapor output just didn't satisfy her, and led back to smoking.

Good luck!!

I haven't been on here in a while, I quit smoking 4 years ago this coming Easter Sunday. The reasons I quit, Cost and my 14yr old asking me on the way home from his hockey game. "Hows that quiting going Dad?" That was it! after 30 years I quit smoking and started vaping and never looked back. I did have problems at day 14, but after 30 days I was all set. had 5 packs on top of the fridge for 1 year.

Also in the first year, I would have dreams that i was smoking cigs. (never smoked in my dreams when I smoked) Kinda of weired to wake up in relief that it was just a dream that I was smoking.

Good luck and vape on!
