New to vaping, considering a different tank, what is good?

I've been vaping for roughly two weeks now. I have a Vaporesso Switcher LE with the Vaporesso NRG tank. I like the tank in terms of capacity, but the GT coils seem to be rather dissapointing as the GT-8s i have don't last very long at all, maybe 2 or 3 days max before burning up. I am considering getting a different tank and I have my eye on the Smok TFV12 tank. I'm looking for good flavor, but I also like making good clouds, I don't want to break bank however and i'm not looking for advanced tanks like RDA and so on. What should I look at?

One thing you could consider, Smok baby beast coils are interchangeable with nrg coils. I'm not sure if there is a different range of resistance to choose from, but you could change up what you have, potentially.
Not sure if there are any other brands interchangeable with those tanks...

You might consider the Uwell Crown tank (original is preferred if you can get it as there is more variety as to coil choice) although it sounds like you are really looking for sub0hm coils, in which case the Crown 3 would also be a good choice. It may be worth your time trying some different coils in the tank you have as well, and it should give you some idea of smok coils before pulling the trigger on the Prince tank..

Just out of curiosity, what is the capacity of the crown tanks? What are the power ratings for the coils? And also, would my mod (Vaporesso Switcher LE) support regular ohm vaping versus sub-ohm?

Have you thought about some of the other factors that go into coil life? The type of coil and tank does affect it, but so do some other things like the type and amount of juice you're using. As a general rule, sweeter or darker juices tend to gunk up a coil a lot faster than lighter, less sweet juices.

I did have to shelf one juice because it was simply too thick for the coils, but upon doing some further research I have heard more complaints than compliments on the GT coils, more explicitly the GT8 coil which i'm using. I'd just like a combination that provided good cloud action and decent flavor.

Yes, you'd just have to turn down the power. As long as you can change their settings, mods can generally be used for whatever type of vaping you prefer. Some mods are a bit restricted because they can't go high enough for certain types of vaping, but I don't know of any that can't go low (that's low power, which generally goes with higher resistance).

With bad reviews, new coils do sound like the best way to go. Just keep the juice in mind as well.

I also didn't like the GT8 coil. I have the Switcher as well. But you should try the GT4 and GT6, I like those a lot better and they last longer and produce more flavor and similar cloud production. I also have the Cascade tank which is my latest favorite which uses mesh coils and has an adapter to use the GT series coil. More options are usually a good thing.

If you want a Smok product, get the TFV12 Prince tank. It's also my latest favorite. But you should probably avoid the T10 coil as you will have the same problems as with the GT8 coil.

I know it seems like the coil with the highest number of internal coils should be the best option especially for an aspiring cloud chaser, but there's a trade off with less flavor and shorter battery and coil life. I think you will be more satisfied with less powerful (and less expensive) coils.

I have been running a switcher as well for about a month now, I did not fill the NRG tank that came with it so I can't speak to it's performance but I had been seeing a lot about the HorizonTech Falcon so I went with that one and am extremely pleased with it's performance. I have tried each of the coil options that are available for the tank and like the F1 coils the best though the others all provide great vapes. No leaking, no break in period for the coils, just great flavor from the start.

I think you have your answers already but 4 ml I think (I don't own the tank). There are several coils and some of the resistances are pretty low as well as somewhat high. Wattage "recommendations" should be printed on the coil (or in the manufacturer's specs if you look at them. Etc.

Standard size Crown is 4 ml; a Mini Crown is 2 ml. Both are 22 mm diameter.

Although technically it is a sub-ohm tank, the Crown 1 offers 1.2 ohm coils for those who do not sub-ohm. Coils available are:
  • 0.15 ohm Dual Ni200 Nickel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 400 to 600 Degrees Fahrenheit (TC)
  • 0.25 ohm Dual Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 80 to 120W
  • 0.5 ohm Dual Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 30 to 80W
  • 1.2 ohm Single Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Coil - 10 to 30W
You can find my full review in this thread: Tanks & RDA's Ratings & Explanations

The Crown 3 has a 5 ml capacity, and is nearly 25 mm in diameter. Two coil resistances:

0.25ohm SUS316 Coil Wattage Range: 80w to 90w
0.5ohm SUS316 Coil Wattage Range: 70w to 80w
... so you'll need a pretty powerful mod (100+ watts) to fire these coils. Since you're using a 200 watt mod you're good to go as long as the BATTERIES you're using will support 200 watts.

In the interests of keeping things simple:
  • If you use a good quality 15 amp CDR battery like the Samsung 30Q or Sony VTC6, then you are good up to 45 watts per battery; 90 watts using two; 135 watts for three batteries.
  • If you use a good quality 20 amp CDR battery like the LG HG2 or Samsung 25R then you are good for 60 watts per battery. If using a 2-battery regulated mod, your good for 120 watts as you have two batteries. If you are using a 3-battery mod, you're good for 180.
  • If you use a single 25 amp CDR battery like the Sony VTC5A, then you are good for 75 watts per battery, 150 watts for two batteries, and 225 watts with three.
  • If you use a single 30 amp CDR battery like the LG HB6 you are good up to 90 watts; with a pair of 30 amp CDR batteries you could safely do 180 watts.
