I just bought my first vape because I really want to quit ciggs! I've done a lot of research before purchasing I finally decided on the istick 20w I then bought a tank I saw online on sale thought I would give it a try with it it is the aspire mini Vivi nova bdc once it came in the mail I put it on my istick put the ejuice in and vaped it, it was giving off this burnt taste as well as a burnt smell I for sure thought I filled it up enough I don't know if it's the wattage or voltage it still is a little confusing I'm not sure if I should be setting it to some specific Vw or if it's just the tank it's reading 1.9 ohm on the istick so I'm not sure if I should be putting it at a certain vw for that reading and that kind of tank!! Help lol I really wanna quit ciggs and figure all this out * I also went ahead and ordered the eleaf gs air tank after reading around that was a good tank for the 20w but it's not here yet! Thanks I'm advance :)

Hi Lawrn, and welcome to ECF.

With your battery, you can put it in either voltage OR wattage mode, not both. Many prefer watt mode, since when in that setting, when you change to a different topper / resistance value, you don't have to adjust anything (other than for a different flavor juice - not all taste "best" at the same setting.)

That said, whichever mode, set your battery at the lower end of it's range, and vape. Turn it up a little and vape. Continue until the flavor starts to go south, and back off that last step or two.

Just because a device will go to high power doesn't mean it's going to work best there! My car's tachometer will go to 8000, but I don't think the engine would like it much!!

when you were vaping it and got the burnt taste - did you prime the coil when you first filled the tank? i am not familiar with that specific tank, but generally, you want to prime the coil, fill the tank, let it sit for a couple minutes before vaping so juice can actually wick up to coil... this may be the issue here

if you have burnt the coil, may need to change it out for a new one (once the cotton/ wicking is burnt, almost impossible to get burnt taste out)

keep the faith - we can help you get this sorted and on track - vape on!

Thanks so much I'll give it a try the battery just confused me when I was on the watt setting I notice the voltage with up or down with it while I changed the setting but then I switch to voltage and i set it at 3.3 and the. Switched back to watts and turned it up and the voltage was staying at 3.3 and wasn't changing with it as it was before lol maybe I was gettin a little
Too button happy but I will try your Advice :)

In VW mode the battery will automatically change the voltage as needed to hit the watts you've set. (Within the device capability, of course.) So if there, the displayed voltage is what it selected based on the coil resistance and the setting you put in.

In VV mode, it won't change anything automatically.

And as DC mentioned, if it's a cotton wick and burned, replacing the coil may be needed.

After filling, and letting set a while, it's also useful to draw a few times (gently) withOUT power. Helps to draw juice into the wick :)

The tanks you mention - get some extra coils / heads for them. You do need backups of EVERYTHING!

+1 on the primer puffs (i usually cover airflow holes with my fingers and take a couple of drags without hitting the firing button to make sure I am pulling juice into wick also)

Shinyitis already! (Also known as Gear Acquisition Syndrome, i.e. GAS)

While you do need at least two of everything, try to keep the CC in check until you have a better handle on what you're using, what you like and don't like about it. That way you have a better chance of improving your vape experience rather than just getting lots of gear that winds up not being what you want.

And by all means, haunt ECF and ask away. We were ALL noobs at this when we started. And most of us are now EX smokers due to vaping, and the help others gave us when we began. I know it was a definite health improvement for me, so I'm happy to help others along - and darn near everyone on ECF feels the same :)

Hello and Welcome Lawrn
I'm just a bit confused with the tank your talkin' about.
If its a Vivi Nova , it should have a silica wick that hangs 1/2" (or so) to each side of the coil. They should be visable in the tank.

You wrote " aspire mini Vivi nova bdc " ...bdc stands for ( bottom dual coil )
Aspire does make and use a BDC in a couple of their tanks, The Nautalus & Atlantis.
I'm thinking you have an Aspire Nautilus ( curved glass tank )

In this case you would want to prime the coil by dripping 3-5 drops of your e-juice into the coil.
If you did not do this, it will most certainly taste / smell burnt....Just let it stand on a table for 10 15 minutes and it should be fine.

As for a Vivi Nova tank,,, It does not need priming other than allowing time for the juice to wick,, 3-5 minutes.

Don't give up your drive to quit analogs , just stop by a local vape shop and I'm sure they will help you out.

Welcome to the board. +1 to everybody. Your coil-- actually wick-- is probably burned and needs to be changed. With a 1.9 ohm coil, you will probably want to be 10 watts or under. When you get a new coil in it, put it in wattage mode, start about 7 watts, and run it up slowly until you get the best vape. If it starts to taste burnt, back off of the power. If you like voltage mode better, start about 3.5 v and don't go over about 4.2 or so. Good luck, and keep talking to us. We're gonna get it straightened out to help you get off the sticks.
