New to vaping, would like a recommendation

Hey guys,

I've been vaping for about 2 weeks now. I really enjoy it and I find myself actually preferring vaping to smoking a real cigarette now. The PV I've been using gets the job done, and by that I mean it kills the cravings. Not doing enough research before I started, I bought what I suspect to be some sort of Chinese knockoff PV. Like I said it works, but I know that in order to avoid going back to analogs I'm going to need to upgrade to something nicer.

Things that are important to me when vaping

- Taste: I know that quality of the e-juice is an important factor, but after reading a few posts it seems clear that the right setup will also help improve taste. The current PV I have tastes O.K. as long as I keep the tank more than half full. If I let it get under half full it tastes sort of burnt and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

- Price: Currently I'm a 5th year senior in college. Needless to say I do have a budget. I'm not looking for something that's cheap but effective though. If it is nice I am willing to invest the money to have something that I wont get sick of quickly. I'm thinking about something in the ball park of around $100 but I can be a little flexible with this number.

- Durable: The crappy PV I use now, the cartomizer stopped working after the first week, and rather than using that moment to upgrade to a nicer PV I stupidly replaced it. I want a PV that will me for a while, and in the chance something does break it would be nice to able to just replace specific parts.

To those who actually read though this whole post, thank you. Are there any PV's you would recommend for me that is close to what I described above. Like I said I am very new to vaping so some of the more technical terms will lost on me. I enjoy hearing your opinions and learning from your experiences.

Hey Phinz, congrats on kicking the analogs! You didnt say what model of PV you have, so hard to tell you what to go to. But I started with joyetech ego's and now I am using a Vamo. The Vamo has VV & VW, and uses replaceable batts. But it is much larger than the ego stick batteries. As far as the cartomizer I would recommend Kanger Evods or Kanger mt3s. I am using those now and they work great. You can probably get a vamo kit for about $50-60 that comes with a charger and batts. Shop around for pricing. Hope this helps!

Hey Phinz -

When I first started vaping I was using an eGo Spinner...it was fine when I started and it came bundled with all of the stuff I needed from my local B&M shop. I then stepped up to a VV MVP Verson 1 which I am now in love with. I picked up the starter kit for around 60 bucks and it came with Charger, Case, Spinner battery (VV) and a T2 tank. Upon upgrading I then chose to go with the MVP V1 which hit my pocket at around 70 bucks new. It came with 2 iClear16 tanks, charger, and APV. This thing is a TANK. I've dropped it around 3 times, all on concrete, and there has been no damage that I could perceive. If you get the MVP V2, you'll get a better tank (iClear30 Clearomizer) with the same perks as before, Charger and PV. I like the hand feel, weight, and overall sturdiness to the mod.

My current setup is the MVP V1, with Vivi Nova clearomizers, and Heathers Heavenly Vapes eJuice. I'm vaping on Dragon's Fire today, but I meander through Pirate's Booty, Dragon's Fire, Legend, and Oompa.

Also, the MVP Mod has all internal batteries which means no need to swap out. It can be a pro/con situation depending on how you would like to vape.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah the PV I was using I ordered from a site called Vista Vapors. It has a 900mah battery and a Vivi Nova tank. Also can anyone explain what makes having a battery with VV and VW better. Thanks!

What type of clearo or other delivery system and juice are you using ? Also what type of PV? If its an ego or a knock off mech mod- you can probably enhance your experience considerably with just a decent tank of some sort and possibly better juice.

Two fold answer: VV is nice because you can run different resistances on your carto/clearo/ato's change the voltage to the level that you like as to not burn your juice, and fire away. VW - from what I understand - automatically adjusts the Voltage of your unit based on the resistance of your coil(s). You just set your Wattage, and vape away no matter what you use. I don't have a VW device, but my mother does and she only uses the VV option. It's all personal preference. Also, get familiar with Ohm's law. It'll save you some trouble when you get more into the forum threads. Voltage = Current x Resistance. Power = Voltage (sq) / Resistance.

VAMO and an EVOD. Great setup for under $100. Been vaing for 2.5 years. Had every mod known to man including the elusive Eclipse EQ. This is a great setup. Put some Alien Visions' Boba's Bounty in the EVOD and thank me later.

Congrats Phinz and welcome to ECF!

I looked at all the popular APVs and went with the Smoktech SID. Link to a great review in case you want to check it out. I got mine from Madvapes and the best part is - they also sell replacement/upgrade parts in case you lose or break something.
It's a dang sturdy feeling mod, I haven't even scratched mine. Pick up some nice Panasonic CGR18560s or NCRs and I guarantee you'll be vaping BETTER than great.

I wanted a good APV, quality batteries, but at a price that wouldn't put a huge dent in the budget and SID fits nicely. Honestly though, I'd recommend either the SID or the Vamo, both are equally priced and very similar in function. If you don't want a tube style I'd go for the iTaste MVP 1 or 2, both are amazing with huge battery capacity and have the added benefit of internal batteries + charger. Unless you buy a Vamo or SID kit, you'll have to purchase those batteries and charger separately. I got both off amazon.

As far as delivery system, you should check out Carto Tanks. Highly praised, very consistent, and pretty much essential if you plan on using cartomizers. If not, maybe look into the BCC tanks such as EVOD, Protank, Davide, Puritank or the Top-Coils like the iClear 30s.

What stlhawks said is true about VV/VW. I like to leave my SID on wattage mode because it's "set and forget." I typically set mine between 6 and 8 watts depending on the flavor, but have gone up to 14 watts for mega vapor. I use 100% VG juices, so that may not work on PG I honestly don't know. Not to be misleading though, you can burn juice by setting the wattage too high, same as voltage. However wattage mode does not suffer from voltage drifting, wherein your battery slowly sputters to death in diminishing quality of vapor until the last charge is gone. With variable wattage, you get constant, steady power until the battery says "Uhh, no."

You will probably find a large difference in taste with LR (1.8 Ohms) and a different tank - I have a vivi and - just not a big fan - it mostly sits around ignored in the drawer - (try for example - evod, protank, CE5, Aro, iclear 16).

And secondly - the juice - the right flavor and PG/VG ratio can make up the rest.

If you have the money - get a vamo, itaste, winder, spinner or twist. If you cant right now spend 30 bucks on a few different clearos and juices - the battery you have can suffice with the right set up if you NEED it to.

None of my links work... I suspect 'cuz I'm a noob. But I got an eGo-W kit from a website that I can't link to. Despite paying an extra $25.00 for faster shipping from China my bill came to about $60.00 and I got:
2x Cartomizers
2x 1100 mAh batteries
1x USB charger
1x Wall charger
2x Covers (like a cap to a pin to cover the mouthpiece)
2x mouthpieces (flat instead of round)
2x Shells (basically a protective armor for the Cartomizers)
1x 10mL bottle of e-liquid of my choosing out of a selection of 203 flavors. (I got VG base with Marlboro flavoring and 1.8% nicotine by volume).

The eGo-W is a 510 so the parts are interchangeable with many other brands (from what I hear). I vape like a fiend and refill the cartomizers a little more often than I'd prefer. I can empty out two cartomizers a day and these are supposedly 2.0mL capacity. But, I did opt for the 1.8% despite only having experience with 2.4%. The battery life is outstanding though! There's been a few times already that I've gotten juice in my mouth. Just a drop or two but still - not exactly pleasant no matter what flavor. Keep in mind though: This is only day two of using this particular product!

Vivi's are top coil devices. When the juice level gets low, turn it upside down and swirl a little between vapes. There are better devices available now though. The Vamo is a simple, easy to use device....just try to baby the 510 threading if you can. Carto/tanks are a very reliable delivery system and pretty cost effective. Bottom Coil atomizers are good too...like the EVOD. Congrats on quitting! You'll continue to feel better every day!

After smoking for over 20 years, I quit about 3 weeks ago thanks to eCigs. I went to this site, http://ejuice.moonfruit.com/, found an eCig and some eLiquid and have not had a cigarette since. They are great if you are looking to quit.

I never had any good luck with bottom coil devices - they always seemed to leak on me. That being said, I may end up upgrading to a carto system soon but I just bought some wire and silica to try and rebuild the atomizer on my Vivi.

for around 35 bucks you can get a vivi nova and a ego c twist! thats a good entry level kit.

I've found the best most inexpensive setup that made me really appreciate vapeing is a variable voltage ego-C Twist I got off of eBay in a kit with a clone kanger tank named the "Anyvape Davide" was amazing. All for around 30-40 dollars for setup it could hit like a truck, give either a warm or cold vape and the tank wouldn't crack because it was pyrex.
