New to vaping

Hey yall, I am new to vaping. I bought my first kit last Nov. I tried to quit smoking then. It worked for the first two weeks. Then I picked up smoking again. I guess I wasn't ready to quit just yet. I have a number of health issues. My doc told me I need to quit smoking. He said why don't you try the e cig. I told him I had one but put it down. I had issues with it like dry burning taste and hurting my throat. I did more research this time around. I discovered this forum. I have been read some of the post on here. It has helped me a lot. I have figured out since that I vaping wrong so to speak. I was drawing to hard. I also wasn't drinking enough water. I never really drank a lot of water. Now I have been drinking a lot of water the last week or so. It helps with the throat. I also bought low nic e juice. Bought a few more tanks. I am down and determined to stop smoking. I had my last cig at work last night. I know I am going to have to change a lot of habits as well. A few guys at work I hang with smoke. I will have to stay away from them for a while. I will have to just have to use our indoor lounge at work. I am so glad I found this forum. Any other advise yall can give me is greatly appreciated thank you.

Stick it out!!!! It still sucks breaking the death grip analogs have on us... but I promise you vaping will help more than anything out there.... and on top of that it's fun! Once your sense of smell and more importantly taste comes back you will realize how nasty them things are! I have cheated and had a puff here and there and that's ok to me but what I realized is they taste like $#!* how we ever enjoyed them nasty things is beyond me. But point is stick with it the reward is worth it and it gets easier day by day. Now as far as getting a good vape that is an entirely different story... if you are having specific issues I.e. not enough TH or clouds or if it's still tasting weird then we can help you with those as well. But congrats on making the first step and welcome to vaping and ECF

I agree...Start with a high nic count with 2 or 3 juice flavors you really enjoy. Slowly lower the nicotine level. I lowered my nic level by 2 about every 2 to 3 weeks. I'm now at 18 and the flavor is so much better. After 3 weeks of vaping, I completely fave up anologs. Haven't had one in almost a month. Good luck to you. Don't get down on yourself if your journey takes longer than others.

Just don't go too high on the nic level IMHO I would start at 18 depending on how much you smoke

welcome to ecf and congrats on making the choice to quit

tip 1. when vaping, you don't have to pull the drag into your lungs....you can if you want but for most beginners this causes a lot of irritation.....it is afterall vapor not smoke so there's water in it and you don't really want water in your lungs :)
hold the vape in your mouth and exhale from nostrils or back out mouth this should also help some with throat irritation

2. sometimes there are some people who have allergic issues with pg (and even rarer with vg) try different juice levels of pg/vg...typically the higher the pg levels the harsher the vape, the higher the vg the smoother the vape

3. try a bottom coil tank as that gives a cooler vape and tends not to irritate people as much (top coil tanks give warmer vapes and can sometimes irritate people)

4. what are you using to vape with? While the cigarette look-a-likes are nice, most of the time they don't help people quit...if you can move past the it must look like a cig there are a lot of options....also depends on how much you can spend. General rule of thumb for new vapors is to get a variable voltage ego spinner style...if you are a bit more courageous may I suggest one more step up and get a mvp v2 as it has a great battery life can last 2 days before recharge and has just about everything you could want or need out of a pv and save you some money because you'll eventually probably buy one anyway ;)

5. when buying tanks, stick to metal or glass instead of plastic, as some juice can melt plastic

6. give us some more info about you and we'll be happy to help you out :) vaping is all about your personality and what you are comfortable with

New Vapor Info & Starter Kits
Vaping is such a personal experience, so obviously everyone's perfect kit will be different and we will need more info about you and your needs. This post is more aimed to those that are ready to move away from cig-a-likes and into the vaping world.

I have gone through the past year of lurking in this forum and what I have learned and tried to piece together to my best a good starter kit for cheap.

Are you ready to step away from the cigarette-look-a-likes? If so this opens your choices up a lot...if you aren't then there are still options.

...........

It is all overwhelming at first but it starts getting easier and it starts making more sense.

..........

Some things to keep in mind:
  • Try to stick to pv's (personal vapors) that have both the 510 and ego connections this way you have all kinds of options when it comes to juice delivery systems.
  • Variable Voltage (vv) = everyone's taste is different so you can set your voltage up or down to help suit your needs as well as different juices and different juice delivery systems (cartomizers, tanks, ect) taste different at different voltages. (how many times can I say different)
  • Variable Wattage (vw) I haven't tried yet but assuming it is the same principle as stated above for vv.
  • Pass-through battery to be able to vape while charging.
  • the higher the mAh the longer the battery life
  • do you prefer a warm vape (top coil) or a cool vape (bottom coil)? top coil vs bottom coil tanks, to each their own...but go with glass or metal so that there's no worries about tank cracking juices.

.........

Welcome!!! I was just like you a month ago - these people can help you through it - I promise!! I started out with the cig look a likes but they didn't do the trick - I am also staying at a higher nic level - the lower nic level made me want a cig...just not ready for that yet :)
The water definitely helps - I am still trying to get myself to drink it - I NEVER did.....believe me, if you stick this out and find the setup that works for you - it is all worth it :D And DON'T give up if you have a cig....don't beat yourself up over it....after vaping for a while, you will notice they taste terrible.....glad to see you found your way here!!

Welcome Blake from another Volusia County resident!!!

You have already received a ton of good information from the folks here! Hang in there, everybody makes the transition at their own pace.

You might be interested in this event being held in Daytona October 4th. Free admission and displays from a number of vendors within Volusia County.

I have talked to a couple of vendors that will be attending and they plan on having some "give aways" at the show!

Gosh I can't think of anything to add that the others have not. Isn't it wonderful how much people care? I would just like to

to ecf Blake Callaway and you already know what a wonderful place it is here. Please just be kind to yourself. I did both for a good while and just started cutting back on cigarettes until I got to the point where I preferred vaping. I am so thankful that you have a doctor that has an open mind and maybe helped you try again. Any problems you are having, just let someone here try and help you. Good luck and remember we all understand what it is like to be going through this and it is much better when you have the world's largest support group at your fingertips. :D

As already stated, by the time I found this thread, most of the things I'd mention, someone else already has.

Though I will add this bit of personal experience. Once you've reached the point that vaping is taking care of your urges, do in fact go back out and hang with the smokers.

After vaping exclusively for 3 months, I took a job at a place that allowed customers to smoke inside. My first day of work, I walked in wanting to choke from the haze and stench being caused by all the smokers. Then customers, who were all RUDE pieces of TRASH.. not a generalized statement, a fact... would approach me, either with a cigarette in the mouth, blowing smoke in my face deliberately as they talked to me, or holding a cig in their hand, which allowed the smoke coming off the thing to drift up into my mouth and nose.,, it took everything I had not to tell them they smelled like a .......ing ashtray, and the smoke they were exposing me to could gag a maggot...

So yes, when you reach a point of satisfaction with vaping, go out and stand by the smokers... You'll be embarrassed when you realize you too, at one point, smelled like they do! LOL

Best wishes and good luck on your journey!

Welcome to ECF and welcome back to vaping. I tried 3 different times to make it work. For me, I found that I had to ease into it, not insisting that I go cold turkey. One day, poof, I didn't have that "panic" when I put down the cigarettes. I hang with smokers in smoking sections a lot. I found not doing so was one of the things that always made me go back to smoking. I missed the camaraderie, I missed that "social" break time. So I took my vape with me and went outside. Mind you, not my first week or two, but soon after. When I had my bearings.

I started at 24mg to even 36mg, I think I was on that for a month and even now after about year I still vape 24mg a good bit, but by no means do I really have to, 18mg and even 11 works fine sometimes, I just like 24, cause I am a glutton lol. Really, you can't hurt yourself, at most you may make yourself a bit queasy if you chain vape 24mg, and that is very self evident when it comes, but doesn't last long, 10 minutes maybe. Like it was said above drink a lot of water, it is good for you anyway. I asked my doc out right what nicotine did since it is really the only "bad" thing I am getting as far as we know, a slight elevation of blood pressure, but he said it was very slight, and less than a strong cup of starbucks, but I have checked my BP and nothing yet.

I'd say keep some 24mg (2.4%) around, and 18mg, your body tells you well in advanced before you could even get near doing anything bad vaping. It really gets to a point where you can't really absorb any more while vaping, and would have to drink the stuff to hurt yourself, or just make yourself sick, which I do not see anyone doing. No matter what , the less you have to really smoke the better, nothing you do vaping can come close to what smoking does, but when starting out try to remember it is the cigs you are not smoking that count more then ones you do here and there...helps to think like that.

Welcome to the forums btw and grats on starting vaping! It only gets better the further from cigs you get, and who knows you may turn it into a hobby before long, I know I have. I really never thought I would be vaping something like DIY peach green tea on a rba when I started. This place is useful too, there is a library of congress worth of info on these forums.

Thank you Lurch, I will definitely check that out. Where do you go for your supplies? I got my kit from totally wicked in deland. Not that bad in price. I bought my e juice in the mall in Sanford. I can't afford that place. I found one place here but he is only online. Sunshine vapor he seems to be the cheapest. I would rather buy my stuff in a store. Lol I like to try different flavors before I buy them. Just don't want to pay ten bucks for a bottle of juice.

Thank you all for the support. I was prepared for the worse if that makes sense. Surprising to me I have been doing pretty good. Just feels like my body getting rid of all the crap. I have been drinking about a gallon of water a day. I don't think I will ever get use to running to the restroom every 5 mins tho. I never liked water before didn't drink it very much. I drank coke and coffee that's it. Now I have cut back on my coke. Lol that's a miracle in itself. My first starter kit was a tornado c with a clearmizer. I have the same battery but I bought a protank 2 mini. I love that tank let me tell ya. My nic levels are 36,24,18,12,11. I mostly use the 11 and 12. If I need more nic I will just add a little of the 24 to my 11. This time around I did more research. I am going to get an ego c twist battery sometime this week maybe. I am broke this week lol gotta love bills. We have been really busy at work and its been stressful. If I need some nic I run to the family restroom and vape. That's one thing I love about my e cig. I will hang out with the smokers when I feel ready. I am on blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds. I have a lot of health issues. Mostly bc of my family genes. Not to mention I have glaucoma and I am pre diabetic. My doc said I had to quit smoking. That's a little more background. I am only 34 I will never go back to smoking again. I believe thats way I have health issues or at least plays a part in it. If any of ya'll live close to Deltona and have any batteries ya'll would like to sell let me know. I can't afford to much right now.
