Hi.

My wife and I decided to try and kick the cigarettes and try vaping instead.
So far, two weeks and not one :)

Anyway, I have a question concerning the eGo charger.

I have the charger plugged into my Samsung Galaxy S3 power supply, and my batteries have been charging great.
However I am getting a little confused with the red/green LED on the charger.
When the LED turns green I remove my battery because apparently green means it is charged.
However if I plug the charger with the same (charged battery) into my PC or another DC power supply, the LED goes red?
If I plug it back into the S3 charger the LED is green.

I have been going by the S3 DC supply and my battery life has been great.
But I am getting a little confused by the charger saying the battery isn't fully charged or it is, depending on what I plug the charger into to:confused:

Any help would be appreciated :)

Hello, Brian. When you replug your charger, does it stay red or does it turn green after a short while?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

As far as I can make out, it stays red after watching it for a few seconds.
If I plug it back into my S3 DC supply it goes green imediately.
I will do some more tests tomorrow if that is OK, (it's 2:30 A.M) here now.

I have charged the battery fine plugged into my PC previously.
I was a little confused because after charging the battery with the eGo charger plugged into my S3 phone DC supply and the light was green, I was perplexed by the light showing red when I plugged it into my PC's USB port.

I will try this again tomorrow and report back. I will wait longer and see if the LED goes green after changing USB ports when the battery is charged.

Thanks again :)

different devices charge at different voltages. This is probably happening because one device is saying okay I've charged it enough it is good to go and the other is saying wait it needs to be charged even longer. Check to see how many volts your battery is and try to find a device that uses the similiar. I believe my Ego batts are around 3.7 volts.

I may be wrong on this but i believe this is your problem. Stick with one device to charge with if you can.

Welcome to ECF Brian!
Some chargers will want to absolutely top off a battery charge, whether it needs it or not.
The chemistry of lithium ion cells likes a full charge of about 4.17 volts for maximum recycle longevity. Some chargers will insist on 4.2 volts, and that's actually not very good for them. It's better to undercharge by a little in this case.

Hello and welcome aboard the forum, from a fellow forum newbie.

Cheers for the help.
I do make a point of not charging the batteries unattended.
I was using a Galaxy S3 charger which works great, And the light goes green on the charger when the battery is charged.
When I wasn't using the S3 charger, I did originally use my Nexus charger, which I stopped using because the light on the charger never went green no-matter how long it was on charge.
The X6 batteries came with 500ma wall chargers. So I will use them and see how they go :)

Thanks again.

Can I be pedantic?

You are talking about the mains wall USB adapters that came with some of your devices and the EGO charging cord that came with your e-cig.

You do know all those adapters are different? and some are probably not even safe?

You do? Great! :)

Can you be even more pedantic and elaborate on exactly which "adapters" aren't safe? The 510 ego type chargers can differ in the voltage they deliver, so one should use the provided charging adapter. AFAIK, when using a standard USB cable, the amperage of the wall wart will only speed up or slow down charging.

It's not entirely safe, from what I understand, to use an Apple (2.1a), Samsung (2.0a), Sony (2.0a?) wall adapter with a possibly unreliable (poor quality) eGO USB battery cord. That combination has already caused fires (and one death) in the UK.
If the eGO charging cord is 100% functional, then it's safe. Otherwise, eGO batteries are safer charged with a 500mAh maximum wall adapter.

That seems to be the current advice.

I was happy with the charging (safety) with the S3 power supply, but not with the Nexus charger.
I will now use the 500ma wall power supplies and the chargers that came with the X6 battery to charge them.
Although, I haven't needed to charge the X6's yet :)

Although if i have my doubts I will be purchasing some higher priced branded chargers.
Is there any you can recommend in the UK?

Thanks :)

I'm not sure what to recommend. I use Kanger eGO cords/charger with either a Joyetech or Myepack wall adapter.

(I might even have a spare Joyetech one, I'll have a look...)

I feel bad now... I didn't need to word my original post quite so patronisingly, so apologies. Most of the horror stories seem to be eGO batteries (and cig-a-likes) with too powerful wall adapters. On a more positive note, higher amp chargers will charge regulated (chip) mods faster with a higher amp adapter, but, from what I understand things like iSticks are rather more complex at the battery end.

The original wall adapter that came with my iStick was recalled... just goes to show, even the one sent by the e-cig vendor wasn't entirely safe. That wasn't an Eleaf one though. Eleaf/Joyetech/Kanger should be better quality than random chargers.
