Hello!!
First of all I want to say thank you to whoever created this community because it is so informative. I have already read many threads and learned so much. I stumbled upon this community while doing research for oral fixation which I have. Yes I know...oral fixation...haha. Anyway, I stumbled across a thread about another individual who wanted to try vaping in an effort to treat their own oral fixation. I have read in other places where people with oral fixation have experienced a better quality of life after starting to vape. Right now my unfortunate coping mechanism is to eat......and eat and eat and eat. I am now 80 pounds over weight. I have tried many other habits but none seem as portable, discreet, and accessible as vaping. I already have pets, I already try to exercise 3 times a week, I write in a journal, and I do various arts and crafts, and all the other blah blah advice that comes standard on every psych page out there. But all of these can be hard to do at midnight when I get off of work and am tired. Especially when i don't live alone. It seems to me it would just be easier to have a few puffs and drift off into la la land. Right now I only smoke very very occasionally as I live with non smokers and going outside isn't always an option late at night. Not to mention even when you do go outside the smell sticks to you anyway. And I can't smoke before or during work hours. I also dont like smoking in general. But on to my question....as a person starting to vape...meaning I haven't bought anything yet. What would be the best thing for me to purchase my first time? I thought perhaps a disposable because then I'm not necessarily married to whatever I bought. I'm also looking for 0 nicotine as that's not a part of the experience I'm looking for and want to keep this as 'clean' a coping mechanism as I can. But what is a good disposable? Is that even what I should buy? Is there a place that has discreet packaging so the whole world doesn't need to see what I'm buying? What should I know as a first time vaper? Please help.

The resistance of the coil is 1.0 ohm or below. It requires more power the lower you go. The power increases the heat and cloud. (on my nutshell wall)

Some flavors taste better with a bit more heat to me, but going so low is overkill. A higher resistance uses less wattage and a cooler vape is had.

(still reading from the nutshell wall...)

I would try a Kanger Evod starter kit. You get everything you need to start vaping, except for the eliquid. Some online vendors will throw in a small bottle of eliquid with an order for a starter kit. They are fairly inexpensive, both to start up and to maintain, and you can refill them with any eliquid that you enjoy. They are pretty much "plug and play". I would spring a few extra bucks to get a glass tank, such as an Evod Glass or a Protank Mini 2, since some flavors such as cinnamon, citrus, etc., can severely damage the plastic tanks that come with the Evod starter kits.

As far as the eliquid itself is concerned, I would stick with 0 nicotine, since you are not a regular smoker. What do you usually snack on? My daughter's boyfriend and I each have a sweet tooth. He prefers candy-style flavors. I prefer bakery flavors. If you have a local vape shop with a tasting bar, go there and try what they have. Some online vendors offer more "savory" flavors, but we have not tried them.

My daughter has thyroid issues and takes daily medication. She has also discovered that she is gluten-sensitive. Vaping enables her to enjoy desserts that she cannot have.

It sounds like sub ohm is something for more refined tastes but not something that someone new to vaping such as myself really needs to worry about then.

I think I agree with you. You don't need sub-ohm just to vape a little. People mostly use sub-ohm set-ups for more vapor and more satisfaction.
You could try a disposable, but most will have Nicotine and most are not very good.
@glointhedark has made some great suggestions. An EVOD starter kit would be a basic (but not too basic) introduction with some nice zero nicotine (or low nicotine) liquids.
Most of the big brands will just take your money, so shop at an independent online vaping store.
If a shop isn't actually selling a Kanger EVOD kit, it's either an advanced vaping shop or a brand charging you $100 for a $20 kit.

That's an interesting point about the desserts. I too am gluten sensitive and I have a 'borderline' thyroid issue. Not enough to be medicated but enough to make life difficult. I definitely think that utilizing all the flavors that are out there as well as the vape will help my problem.

Does this site have discreet shipping? I don't need everyone in my house knowing what I'm buying.

I'm sure that if you request plain packaging then most suppliers would be able to accommodate you, although IME all vape gear I've ever ordered has come in plain padded 'Jiffy bag'-type envelopes or plain boxes.

As far as nicotine itself is concerned - I would be the last person to suggest that a non-smoker take it up for no reason, but it has been shown that nicotine can actually be quite helpful in various ways, including appetite reduction and as a mental stimulant and has even been shown to have potential protecting affect from neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimers etc.

It has also been shown that nicotine is nowhere near as addictive as was previously thought - when nicotine is absorbed with other chemicals in tobacco smoke it is quite reinforcing and addictive, but when it's consumed on it's own, as with vaping, it barely seems addictive at all.

When rats were given a choice between nicotine-laced water and plain water, they showed no preference for the nicotine water - when they were given the choice of water containing nicotine mixed with other chemicals found in tobacco smoke, like cotinine etc., they couldn't leave it alone.

Regarding the thyroid issue, make sure they are checking your TSH, too. My daughter tends to test within the normal range when they do bloodwork to check her thyroid levels, but, after being diagnosed around 8 to 10 years ago, she knows when her levels are off. She is fortunate to have a doctor who listens to her when she says she is having issues.
